[If that train ride was any indication, the dangers noted in their dossiers were absolutely real. Seeing so many of the Qorral armed only confirmed the necessity for more coordination than they'd had on the previous mission.
Being thecontrol freak police officer that he was, Hijikata wouldn't waste any time setting something up.]
This mission needs coordination, there's a lot of 'bad land' between us and the Deemers. [Could they hire locals to escort them? Maybe. At a price that was sure to gouge their pockets.]
We'll need to travel in groups. Each one should have several who can fight, and at least one who can negotiate. No one goes alone.
I'll organize them if necessary, but you guys can use this to find your own too. [He doesn't want to hold everyone's damn hands. Just most of them? He'll step in if he deems it necessary.]
So reply with the following information:
1) Name
2) Skill Set
3) Availability
4) Supplies in Possession
5) Supplies Needed / Special Accommodations

Think you're capable of handling a scorpion or spider on your own? [Provided they were normally sized-]
People won't care what you do with it once you've paid. Any sort of alcohol will work, so long as it's not beer. Just get whatever's cheapest. [He doesn't know about the lack of drinking age either, but at least the issue of 'money' did occur to him. Though he hadn't anticipated that he'd be talking to such a dental hygienist!
Maybe this girl was a dentist back home?]
no subject
[ She's up front about that, because she can kind of handle the volleyball sized ones now too, probably, but the horse sized ones? Er, no. No, she can just hope to outrun those. ]
Oh. Um, I'll see who I can ask about that.
[ Teaching children to shoulder tap since right about now, apparently. If she'll even go through with it, it just sounds so unpleasant... ]
no subject
Okay. Are you bringing any weapons?
Let me know if you need something. [Not that he'll front any money for booze, but he wasn't going to stomp out any hygiene concerns. They needed more people to care, really.]
no subject
[ ... what can she use. Okay, against insects and bugs and scorpions? A bat would probably work. So would good shoes, and boots? Good second pairs of boots? Okay, that's the best plan. (Yes, she does consider clothing a weapon right now.) ]
Thank you, sir. I will.
[ time to get meet the disaster of figuring out alcohol for... toothbrushing... ]

violentsevere than boots. A knife, maybe - it would be small enough to be carried into small spaces and make quick work of any crawlers.] Check with the blacksmith about getting a dagger. [Shouldn't be too expensive.Even though he'll immediately regret his advice, Hijikata WILL stick to helping her find some solution, if she asks. He has to right his wrongs...]
no subject
Chihiro holds her jewel tight in her hand, pressing her lips together. Um. It's a practical suggestion. It's just also so... violent. Which she should be starting to better understand, after all the bugs, but direct violence...
Oh, but a dagger! Can be useful for so many other things, right? She can use it for those things. ]
Okay, I'll find them and see how much it costs.
[ This is exactly when she'll also learn about sheathes. Because having a dagger she keeps in her boot might be a bad idea, but strapping it to herself and carrying it... might be a slightly less bad idea. ]
no subject
Shouldn't be too much.
Do you know how to use one?
[Step one, learn how to carry it. Step two, don't swing it around flailing if you're scared. Hijikata wasn't confident this person had gotten to step two yet, given her idea of what counted as a weapon in the first place.]
no subject
[ directly to the point of her lack of, well, understanding or nuance in the use of weaponry. ]
no subject
Hijikata sighs.]
You need someone to teach you the basics. [He can, and he has time, but he's going about this slowly. The more of her inexperience that crops up, the more delicate he tries to be.]
no subject
That's very likely. I'm sorry. If I tried to use a knife for anything else right now, I'd probably hurt myself most.
[ She's not a military trained, or even fighting arts trained, child. She's aware enough to be blunt about her lacks. It's notably why her strategy in Oska in the weeks before they were shipped out for this mission and the chaos of the first day were based around her ability to run around freely. ]
no subject
Do you know anyone who would teach you? [He'll offer if she doesn't, but if she does have someone she's more comfortable with that may be better.]
no subject
I don't know anyone who specifically is teaching that kind of thing.
[ More she's not sure who to ask... since she's young. Maybe that man who'd said something on the jewels weeks back? Or...
... no, she isn't sure at all. People closer to her time would likely find it difficult to follow through on, and she'll need to practice daily, and that's a burden, when she's not going to have marketable skills for a long good while. ]
no subject
If that's the case, I can teach you. [He has in mind to make her practice daily, to get those skills honed as quickly as possible. She should be able to at least get the basics in a few weeks' time.
Though of course he'll try to abort when they meet face to face.]
no subject
Are you sure? I don't want to be a burden.
[ Or an imposition. She's pretty sure this could count as one or the other? But she'll also give it her all if he's serious about teaching her. She can be no less serious in turn! ]
no subject
[Blunt, harsh, but entirely true.
If she echoed his seriousness (provided they even got to the lesson part of this), she'd be one of his better students.]
no subject
Okay. When do we start, and where do you want me to meet you?
[ The second stage is now set and ready... ]
