I realize many are concerned about the loss of... greater powers, as it were, both among the natives and ourselves, and I agree it merits investigation. However, it also seems to me that even if their gifts do return, it would benefit them to learn more ordinary ways of doing things like farming and building.
I know the ins and outs of many of these things, but not enough to teach them all myself. Are there others with this knowledge willing to help?

That would be a great help, I think.

It's easy to get too set in one way of doing things - particularly when that way is very easy. But it seems like if they ever knew how to go about things the hard way, they've forgotten.
Unfortunately I'm not used to this sort of climate, so I don't know what growing conditions are like, and what grows best.

Because if something like this happens again without people like us here, they're doomed. And they don't seem to all have the same kind of magic, so they're forced to rely on the ones who can do specific things. If we can show them other ways to do those same things that don't use magic, they can use both instead.

I have been teaching them what I can. mostly in trapping, fishing, cooking, making and using tools... things like that.
( he has been doing less of that as he starts to run out of energy, though. )

[He gives a small sigh.]
I'm afraid I'm not acclimated to this kind of weather either, my friend. The humidity I'm used to, but less of the tropical kind.

[ Kojuro makes a good point, though. ]
You think there's a risk their powers won't come back, though?
Voice | UN: ANIKI
Well, the building anyway. Don't really know anything about farming. Their boats definitely need some work.

Have you considered setting up basic infrastructure to go along with the teaching of skills? Water distribution and purification, energy generation, that type of thing?

[ She has a very personal interest in using magic... ]

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that [it does speak well of the other recruits that others are thinking of things other than brute force.]
I've been doing what I can, too, but we should maybe organize ourselves to teach to our strengths more effectively, without doubling up.

as I've said, I've been working on teaching the natives to fish with traps and poles and nets, as well as making tools such as hammers and things like that. I'd do more if I could, I know a bit about self defense and archery, it just seemed this was the most productive place to start.

Mm - Oshu has wet summers, but winters are harsh. Not like the south.
I'd doubt this place has ever seen snow, really.
Re: voice | UN: yatagarasu
Don't need as much help with, maybe - they seem to have been very reliant on their gifts.
I think it's a possibility we should consider in our planning, at the very least. It costs us little but our time.
no subject
They do. Just, ah - keep it tame for them, would you?
[he's seen what you think some ships should look like.]
voice
Yes, of course - though my home lacks some amenities that other recruits seem to take for granted. Storage for water and harvests would be essential, though.
no subject
I will try and broach the matter with the innkeep- he seems respected.
no subject
[ No hurt in trying, at least. If nothing else it may endear the natives to them. ]
I guess growing crops is the most important thing, since they're deer people... I know a little bit about gardening from watching my mom. Would that help?
video
I see no reason why we can't do both. Particularly given some of us have no experience with magic. [At least as he thinks of magic, anyway.]

I can't say I'm much of an engineer. Has anyone else spoken up with relatable skills?

[ She sighs and rolls her shoulders. She's trying not to get too aggressive, but her fuse is a little shorter than usual. ]

Hm. I'll organize, then, as it seems like nobody else is. [if you want something done right, do it yourself and all]
And that does seem like the best place to start - I can shoot, too, but it's more of a mounted style. I think even if I had a bow with me it'd scrape the ground in their hands...
no subject
Indeed - if I had the time, I'd want to come myself. [But he's got plenty of other things he could be working on right now.]
Let me know how speaking with him goes. Having a local who's trusted would be good.
no subject
Probably. Though if you'd like to learn more, I've raised crops before and I'm happy to teach recruits as well as the Nalawi.
no subject
No, we really don't. [though his tone of voice suggests that he thinks you might find the time anyway]

Chosokabe has some experience with more advanced mechanics - though many of them are ah, not suitable for the situation... [he means war machines. He's not giving the deer people war machines.]
Simple structures, though - that I can help with.
no subject
I don't believe I ever suggested it was. [no anger, but perhaps a little annoyance. Mostly people don't try to argue with his ideas, so he's not quite used to having to be placating.]

[ No, she's just taking it a little too personally. She's yet to learn that not every commentary on magic is personal. ]
no subject
Perhaps, but not starving is important, too. It's hard to fight on an empty stomach.
no subject
I can't say I'm particularly skilled with complex construction myself but I'll do my best to help where I can.
no subject
[okay, he may be kind of lousy at articulating social nuance, but he's not actually clueless, and he can tell that this could turn into a pointless argument really quickly]
I apologize. That was not my intent.
no subject
Honestly, there isn't space for huge structures, even if we had the time and skills.
no subject
no subject
Well, there should be space storage for food and water - though winter supplies aren't really a concern. Repairs to buildings damaged in the storm.

[Nevermind the age gap, that doesn't seem to phase her.]
I shall, though.
no subject
I wasn't here then, so I don't know. But I've had to deal with army provisioning before.
no subject
Perhaps when we return to Oska. [He doesn't actually seemed very fazed by it either - he knows age isn't the only measure of experience or knowledge]
no subject
When we return to Oska.
