VIDEO. UN: LOKI

[ the sound of the wind storm hollows dully against the cave walls. Loki's squidge, Bacon, can half be seen crawling in the confines of his tacky green jacket and over his knee from where he sits, sometimes ducking and squeaking when a particularly large gust hits. to keep it from screaming, Loki offers his fingers absently, which the little squidge pulls on with its pudgy arms before ducking low again. ]

Hello there, it seems like we'll be waiting this out for some time considering the weather-type circumstances. While we're all rotting away, etcetera etcetera, I thought we could amuse ourselves with a game. A little bit of team bonding funtimes, so to say. [ he twists a dark nailed hand in the air, gesturing. ]

Soo—oo ... it's called Two Truths and a Lie. How do you play? Glad you asked, it's simple! Give two true statements about yourself and add a lie to the mix, shake it up then toss it out there and see if your team members know you well enough to spot the lie.

Usually this is done with copious amounts of alcohol, but we're lacking at the moment. [ pause. ] But—ah—you could always enjoy the satisfaction of being right. It's not like we're doing much else.

NOTE | Feel free to threadjack if that's your thing!! :****

This game is not won by guessing which stories might be true, and so I shall neither confirm nor deny your guess until you have told me which is the lie.

Man, and here I was hoping I could get you to narrow it down for me that way. Figured it was worth a try...

[Foiled by your rule-stickling, thanks bro...but oh well. Anyway.]

Let's see, then. The other two were like...you getting into trouble in some woods, and some guy being a really good friend of yours even though he pushed somebody off a cliff... [Shizuo pauses, making a bit of a face and rubbing at his nose. But at length--] Is it the second one?

For what reason do you suspect the second to be false?

[He shall not make this easy for you, Shizuo.]
longtempered: nvm i like this angle better (centered)

[No, he's really not...Shizuo's already immediately doubting this particular choice, if his expression is anything to go by, but since he's gone and picked he supposes he might as well go through with it.]

Well, I still figure the first one's true...and if you're lying about the third one, then that means you'd actually hate that guy instead of considering him a friend. I know I wouldn't be able to call somebody I hate a good friend with a straight face like that.

[Basically, hardly the most elaborate extrapolation in the world, but it's about all he's going on at the moment. Shizuo shrugs.]

So, that just leaves the second one I guess...

Right you are on all counts! I cannot help but bare my heart in my speech, and so if I were to speak of a man I loathe like the gates of Hades, I would not be able to keep it from my words. Thus, I speak true of Lycomedes, who in Scyros raises my son for me while I am so far away.

The second is indeed the lie, but only because this tale is not my own - this happened to my father Peleus long before I was born. It is a tale I heard in my youth and so I know it well enough that I might disguise it as my own. However, you have guessed at my trick nonetheless.

[The surprise that crosses Shizuo's face about now is pretty genuine--but it's not the bad kind, at least. Considering...]

Wow, so I actually got it right? Huh... [Well, isn't that nice? It feels a little nice. He scratches at his jaw a bit, blinking.] I was sort of hoping you were about the same, when it comes to talking about certain sorts of people. I'm not very good at lying either. So, I'm not very great at this game, really...

You set up your facts pretty well, I think I still got off mostly lucky on this one. [There's a very brief, wry smile.] Never would have guessed your dad got involved in things like that...

In this too it seems we are men spun of the same cloth, strong-spirited Shizuo. Indeed there are other men of whom I might speak if my aim were to feign respect for one I hate, but on this I shall stay silent lest I spoil the merry mood of this game. To the opposite effect, so too would I have a difficult time feigning hatred for one I love, for I cannot help but speak fair words unto those men who hold my respect.

As for my father, tales of his feats are numerous - he is indeed a worthy man, whose name I proudly bear.

Uh, yeah, I get it if you'd rather not talk about anyone unpleasant, that's fine. [Goodness knows that's a feeling he can relate to as well...] But yeah, I really don't know how people do it, honestly? Lying with a straight face and all that. Seems like a lot of effort to me...the truth is just a lot less of a pain. Especially if it's talking about other people.

Ah, it really sounds like he's done a lot more exciting things than mine, that's for sure...but since we're from really different places that's probably not too surprising. Some people are going to have more exciting families than others, and all that, huh?

Were every man a great hero I should think such feats would lose their luster.

[So do not feel bad about your dad's mediocrity, Shizuo.]

How your speech does remind me though of the son of Laertes! There is a man who can say one thing and mean another, while not a hint of his deception reveals itself in his features, Odysseus, the man of many twists and turns. I confess I love him in friendship and his counsel is not unworthy, but one must always be careful with him.

Good point. Doesn't really count as heroic if everybody does it all the time, I guess...

[And he doesn't feel bad anyway so whatever!! His dad is (probably) a perfectly respectable accountant or something that's led a decent and peaceful life and treats his family well, he can't exactly ask for better than that....

But--oh. 'Odysseus', that's...a really familiar name. Kind of? Shizuo feels like he's definitely heard this one somewhere before, though he can't remember where for the life of him at the moment, even if he pauses and tries to give it a second or so of visible thought. --Though the pause is half for parsing what Achilles is actually saying about the guy, too, what with all these turns of phrases to rearrange here...]

Ah...he's a pretty good liar, you mean? [So Shizuo ventures at length.] You've definitely got a lot more patience than I do when it comes to those kinds of people, then. I have a hard time dealing with that sort of person, so I don't really have any friends like that. [...Well. As far as he knows. Sometimes he has to wonder if Shinra counts somewhere on the spectrum of lying liars who lie, though Shinra's already difficult in his own entirely unique set of ways anyhow, so.] Even if they're decent otherwise, they always seem to get in a lot of trouble for lying so much...

The son of Laertes rather lies to save himself from trouble - his cleverness is his sharpest weapon, as dangerous as the pitiless bronze of my spear. Nor would I claim he is a dear friend, but still a friend nonetheless, although he has ensnared me before with his devious tricks and golden tongue. That is perhaps a tale for another time, however.

[Another time being after he has passed through the gates of Hades, perhaps. Even after all this time he still does not care to tell the tale of how Odysseus lured him out of hiding there upon Scyros.]
