[ kaz has been here for awhile now, but hasn't managed to actually post to the network. until now. the video opens with kaz and nami, sitting next to each other. kaz looks the perfect picture of an adult businessman ready to offer a deal. ]
Good Afternoon, Audentes. Here in Woodhurst, there are opportunities available to us that weren't in Perdition's Rest. [he means it in a general way - business, taking advantage of resources - but jesper picks a pretty great time to walk past in HIDEOUS colors. so that too.] But those opportunities cost money, and the meager budget ALASTAIR gave us won't last for very long.
[ if kaz is the very image of a businessman, nami is his perfect opposite: the miniskirt she wears is certainly not appropriate for any legal job... she picks up the sales pitch with ease and enthusiasm, though.] You could always work long hours to support yourself and any supplies we might need for this mission to really succeed... or you could let us help you!
["""help"""]
As it just so happens, we're feeling generous about a recent acquisition, and are willing to lend out some extra money to help with your ventures. The money can be repaid in interest or via favors of equivalent value.
[ kaz nods towards nami, who they've agreed between them that she can take care of the interest aspect. he could do it himself, of course, but he'd rather let her feel like shes contributing something here. ]
[ she hmphs, clearly there's been some disagreement here... ] Yes, really generous! Too generous, in my opinion. Anyway, the longer you take to pay us back, the more you'll owe us, so keep that in mind! [ pausing, she points imperiously at their so-far imaginary audience. ] Ah, and if you die, then we get the right to confiscate anything we want from your belongings, to pay for your debt! It's just fair, don't you think?
[ even death won't save you from this particular debt collector... ]
Moreover [ and clearly, more importantly ] Ghezen frowns on deals made in bad faith. We'll hold up our end of the bargain if you hold up yours. Feel free to contact us here or either of us privately if you wish to discuss.

Sure! I'll be there. [ and true to word, she'll show up about half an hour later, and before she even deigns to say hi to Jin, she saunters up to the counter, chats up the guy manning it, giggles and bats her lashes and compliments his hairstyle (which anyone can tell is atrocious, really)... and when she eventually makes a shocked face about having forgotten her wallet at home, the guy is all too happy to tell her that the caramel-flavoured coffee is on the house, and why doesn't she take one of their famous cinnamon buns to go with it?
which she's all too happy to do... ]

It also helps that he couldn't come up with a comeback to the butt comment??? Why, Nami. why are you like this]
Well, you made out like a bandit there. Almost literally. Did you lie about his hair?
no subject
Of course I did!! Anyone with eyes is able to see it's horrendous. How does he look in the mirror without the mirror breaking?
no subject
[liar. it's a 10, with a -2 because you don't like her.]
You could've got a bigger coffee, a cinnamon roll that wasn't lopsided, and his number for a free dinner.
no subject
Maybe I should give this to you, you could enjoy the free dinner... if you didn't lose your appetite, after having to look at his haircut for more than two minutes.

Jin leans back in his chair. Finally, he lets a show of being impressed slide.]
10 out of 10. Congrats.
I think that earned your story. Chuck the number, by the way, I couldn't eat while staring at that mess across a table.

[ she smiles brightly, a smile that then gives way to a laugh — good, that gives Jin some more points in her eyes, at least he has some sense!! she crumbles the napkin into a ball and throws it over her shoulder with a flourish, somehow managing to throw it straight into the trash can that sits behind them. ]
Come on, then, spill! It has to be an interesting one if you don't want to talk about it where others could hear. But don't worry — I won't tell anyone else. I'm just curious!

In a nutshell: we hashed out a deal over a bounty, and he got the better cut, because he played off my emotions for it.
[That's definitely not all there is to it, though, if... Jin's still being mildly evasive...]
He's smart. And it pissed me off, that he got one over me and I knew he was doing it.

she leans back in her chair, hums lightly. ]
Yes, he's like that. I think a world could be on the brink of destruction, and Kaz would still think how to best make money out of it. [ as much as she gets along with him, and likes him well enough — she has no illusions about the way Kaz views the world. it's just luck that their morals haven't clashed on an issue yet... though she does have plans in place for that, whenever it happens. being on Kaz's team helps.
(but at least it's rather clear from this she doesn't exactly fully agree with him on things, either.) ]
You asked him for help and he charged you for it, did he?
no subject
What a shocker. [hmph.] I understand being somewhere where you need to, but from his own teammates? That's more than I can put up with. [He'd been poor and in need once before, too. Things are different now, the need not so dire. And ALASTAIR, at least, has not let them starve yet.
also because he's petty the fact that Nami doesn't support him 100% makes him like her a bit more HAHA GOD]
...In Perdition's Rest, one of the sheriff's deputies asked for us to help find her brother, in exchange for a favor she did us. He'd fallen in with some of the bandit camps. We put out a small reward-- just a round of drinks-- for any kind of information. Kaz found the guy and brought him to us, but not unscathed.

she listens to the story as Jin explains the circumstances... and promptly groans as he gets to the end, burying her face in her hands.
(hey at least she's sympathetic??) ] Oh, no... that went horribly for you, didn't it!
no subject
[The sympathy's doing a lot to get Jin to actually tell her about it, at least, rather than skim over the details. He'll even elaborate on that 'we'.]
Asher and I were expecting a touching reunion. Not what looked like a corpse on a cart at first.
no subject
[ despite Jin having alluded to the fact the guy was alive in the end, she's still actually rather concerned, hoping she hadn't gotten the wrong idea... though her concern quickly changes into surprise as she blinks. ]
Asher? He was with you? [ wait no never mind that isn't surprising... ] Never mind, of course he was.

[ she says this like she's making a casual note about today's weather. ]
no subject
[HFHGHHF]
Fine, yeah. We're close, but we'd actually just become friends right before all of that went down. [It's actually one of the big reasons they're friends, so... sorta thanks Kaz and Jesper?]
no subject
[ then, tapping her cheek, she thinks back to what she'd seen of Asher on the magitek when he'd arrived, the way he'd spoken, then. yeah... maybe it's not a surprise if Jin didn't get along with him instantly.
still, she smiles. ] I'm glad he's got friends like you, you know. People who will look after him. [ because as much as she cares for Asher, she knows he isn't... isn't made for the kind of life so many people in Audentes are used to. she's glad there are others who care about him, who'll make sure he isn't hurt. ]
It's what you did, isn't it? Kaz wouldn't have got someone like you that easily, otherwise.
no subject
[Friends. Right.
Jin rests his chin in his palm, brows furrowed together. So much of their friendship-- or, well, whatever the hell they're actually calling it now-- has changed since then. Because Nami's absolutely correct. Asher's smart, thinks on his feet in a pinch, can talk his way out of a disaster better than Jin can on even his best days... but the danger and the supernatural that most of the rest of them have faced must necessarily be beyond him. Even after so long on the team, it's a lot to take in.]
It was. [He casts his eyes downwards and away from Nami.] He could've taken care of himself, and who knows if I was overthinking it, but...
[But Kaz had read him all too correctly. He'd had a soft spot, and he'd known to play to it.
Jin trails off and begins anew, changing the subject pointedly.] From what I hear you've been a good friend to him too.
no subject
But you did what you thought you have to do. [ it's okay — she gets it.
she's been smiling slightly until the point that Jin uses to change the subject, turning it to her instead... then, the smile slips off as she rests her chin on her hand, propped up against the table. her head tilts back just slightly. ]
Yes. Anyone who hurts him will regret the day they were born. [ it's isn't a threat, not like Kaz would issue one — instead, it's a fact, stated quite simply because it's true.
then, after a pause, with a lighter tone, ] He's honest. I like that. You don't meet a lot of people who are as kind and willing to learn to become better.
