video
[ Undyne had said she wanted more guidance from ALASTAIR. Here she is, with more guidance, and she doesn’t know if she likes it. Looking more ragged than ever, she’s standing with Pearl, with the volcano Nalalona in the background. ]
Alright chumps, listen up, it’s time for some teamwork! ALASTAIR has some ideas about what we can do to get the volcano going again, so everyone can get their powers back. ...it’s going to involve a bomb.
[Pearl clears her throat, despite the fact her body is flickering in and out of view at some points during the video. The Gem stands tall as she gestures back to the volcano.]
This is correct. ALASTAIR has entrusted us with schematics of creating a bomb and a catapult. It’s up to us to gather the necessary supplies and assemble them.
They have observed a high level of tectonic plate activity here, near the Nalalona volcano. With enough force -- the bomb in this case -- we can possibly trigger an eruption and restore the natives’ Gifts, along with our own magical abilities. The volcano’s opening is large enough for us to hit our mark with the bomb. It’s up to us to put it all together.
We can’t afford to not try. Look around you, half our team relies on magic just to exist. This isn’t just about helping the natives use magic anymore, this about saving ourselves. If you don’t use magic, good for you, but if you have a heart, you’ll understand why this is important, and why if I catch anyone slacking off, they’ll be answering to my spear about why they don't think it's important. Got it?!
[Pearl glances to Undyne and offers her a weak smile. The situation they were all facing was quite dire. She faces the feed again.]
I know we have the ability to make this work. And we will, if we all work together on this. Every little bit helps!
[ OOC note: There will be a mod-posted mass log on the 16th for gathering/construction/etc. Pearl and Undyne will be around, and feel free to use this post to chat among each other as well! ]
[ OOC edit: The NPCs Crowley and Cherenkov speak! ]

[Never mind her objections to explosives, there's not point restoring Gifts back to the Nalawi if they're all too dead to use said Gifts.]
Re: un: hawkeye
To clarify: we are not "blowing up" the volcano, as so many of you are assuming. We are stimulating volcanic eruption.
It's extremely rude to have so many of you questioning us after we went through the trouble of doing these readings. If your team prefers to continue fruitlessly batting at windows, we can take our help back.

You haven't given us much reason to place our faith in you, based on past experience.
Why give us this information now? Are we below expectations again?
no subject
If you're still smarting over the stress test in Oska, I invite you to get over it, recruit Hawkeye.
To the point: yes. We have technology to do proper readings and thought we would give you a gentle nudge in an actual scientific direction instead of running about looking for missing gods.

Apparently, we're free to come with our own contingency plans.

One plan left by itself saves no one.

Multiple, then.

My sight is narrow enough as is. I don't want to make the same mistakes ALASTAIR might make if I had the insight to avoid it.
no subject
None of us want to make the same mistakes but most of us aren't equipped with the necessary information to make alternative plans

It doesn't matter; however, as they still need to outsource our group to cover what they cannot. Information and tools don't make one a more fitting expert.
We all have our own experiences and fields of expertise. The information we do possess should be sufficient to account for a great number of outcomes. Reliance on information and tools is a dependence we can't afford.

We should develop a means to compensate for when their information may not cover important issues or if their support is inadequate. You have to utilize every available tool, but prevent yourself from being wholly dependent on them.

The volcano will not erupt past its normal radius. The lava flow will not reach the other islands. It is perfectly safe, assuming your team doesn't stay on the island once the bomb is deployed.
no subject
So it's not an explosive volcano? If it's usually constantly erupting that would make sense, but in my home lava flow is not the concern from an eruption.
no subject
This is a salient point. There may be some danger due to the unusual pressure buildup in the time since the last eruption. To be safe, moving the locals from the closest islands may be advisable. However, we do not anticipate debris, if any, being very far reaching. Thank you for this consideration; I will add it to our algorithm.

[there's a lot she could say... the goddess probably isn't a sham, that it might be valuable to teach their team the skills to be entirely self-sufficient, alastair is again gambling with their lives and they couldn't care less and it's fair,
but she doubts she will be heard.
who knows if a volcanic eruption is more important than religion, but saving innocent nalawi definitely outranks it.]
If I die, cat, I'm haunting you through all nine of your lives.

[not actually here]

Do your calculations specify what distance to move them? Although I imagine our own judgment should be good enough in the evacuation.
Let me guess. You doubt the effectiveness of curses, too.
no subject
As for where to move the locals, away from the volcano. Which would be south.

I was asking about how far, but on second thought, I'm sure we can manage. So I'll substitute it with this quick question. Is support from recruits off-world usual in ALASTAIR, or do we need to become stronger?
no subject
But I would agree that you all have areas in which you could improve.
