[ Masamune on the video feed looks irritated, but it's hard to tell if his mood is a reflection of what he feels the need to say, the overall status of things, or simply whatever he is (attempting to) eat. It looks like some kind of biscuit but who knows considering the food situation around here other than seafood.
He's standing and it looks like the backdrop of his current location is City Hall. ]
I hate to do this while we're split, but it's probably stuff you will want to all be aware of sooner versus later.
First, our little native friends had nothing to do with the Dakal genocide situation.
Secondly, it's just a hunch [ except not really ], but there might be a couple psychos in the local population over their opinion on worshipping Ryba. So, we might start having a big problem with creepy sacrifice rituals happening to try and gain favor from the sea witch.
[ a short pause as he finally breaks the cracker/chip/wtfever he had been holding between his teeth. ]
If that's not actually already a thing, I mean.

- - nalawi vs dakal war ended 30-50 years ago
- war started several hundred years ago and had been ongoing rather than a full-out constant barrage of attacks on each other (one battle after another, etc.)
- nalanni loves everyone blahblah
- except dakal when they piss her off for trying to destroy her volcano.
- nalawi convinced nalanni has been taken from them against their will
- all "dark magic", such as rituals and sacrifices and reviving the dead, etc. are not known to the nalawi. ryba's domain. nalawi have worshipped nalanni for several thousand years. ryba and others were worshipped before that.
- one council member ran off wearing crazy eyes. female, dark robes. convinced ryba will "save us all". probably a good idea to find her.
- there's a lot of crazy on these islands.
[ OOC: ooc info details. feel free to thread jack and talk to each other! Masamune will attach a note in a bit with what he learned from his meetings with the Council (I still need to copy the information given from the mods.) Also, feel free to take any info your character reads or heard and run with it to do your own stuff as it's new information discovery/revealed but not a slot for plot participation post/situation.]

[Well, that was... good? He does look a little relieved, anyway]
They have any idea who was responsible? Might be a good thing to know.
[Whatever relief he was feeling over that news is short-lived, though]
I don't think these guys got enough of anything to give that lady what she'd want in exchange for her help... Trying it would be wasted effort. But I don't suppose they'd take our word for it...
[Going 'hey, we saw that god and she isn't interested,' probably wasn't going to work.]
no subject
Apparently, the Dakal found Nalanni's volcano and thought it would be an excellent idea to try and destroy it. Needless to say, she was more than a little upset at their audacity. She annihilated them herself. The Council admits they weren't sorry to see the Dakal get wiped out, but that there was never any intentional genocide plans, nevermind any carried out by them.
[ Masamune snorts at the mention of futile efforts, giving a nod in agreement. ] I asked if they knew of any spells or rituals that someone might need to "gather" a lot of energy for because our powers are shot, but it also could be looked at they aren't suppressed so much as being drained.
They were totally fine with everything I asked up until then but that made them uncomfortable. Any spells or rituals of sacrifices or raising the dead or all connected to the sea witch. They asked me to leave as they... don't seem to like talking about her.
... Except for the crazy lady who stormed out saying Ryba would save them all and everyone is a fool for shunning her and her great powers. Lots of awkward silence ensued before I got politely kicked out again by the others. Not creepy or anything.
Looks like she's gone somewhere, though, in a hurry. I don't see her around anywhere.
no subject
[Okay, so that clearly wasn't good for the locals, but he'd seen Ryba, and if her sister was anything alike, he wasn't sad she wasn't around.]
Well, shit. Ryba was pretty clear the price needed for her help wasn't anything anyone with sense would try and offer. Guess we might want to keep an eye out.

voice;
The words are enough to cause her face to go pale even as anger swells up inside her. Deities of any sort have never featured prominently in her life before now, and with this particular snippet now she's absolutely certain she wants nothing to do with them in the future. The Nalawi as well, if they were able to condone such a thing.]
It may as well have been intentional, if they felt no remorse over it. [Ugh.]

And still no one knows what happened to Nalanni?
[ she starts wringing her hands. ]
Sh-Shouldn't one of us ask our senior officers for advice? H...Half our crew is missing, and now this? Talks of — of sacrificial rituals and angry gods? They'd know what to do, wouldn't they?
video
[ he pauses, unsure. they should know what to do, but... ] I want to say yes. Are you friendly with them?
video
I... spoke to two of them, once? I don't know if I'd consider that friendly...

How do you know this about the sacrifices? Have you seen it?
text;
I haven't seen any sacrifices done or leftovers yet.
...Unless the bodies at the shoreline are what's left of some rituals already done.
[ which...only occurred to him answering the other, so now he is a little more concerned than he was before. ]

You didn't happen to take a picture or two of these bodies, did you?

( this guy is ... weirdly chill about terms like genocide and sacrifice rituals... )

...But, I admit I'm not so sure how Nalanni is going to react to come back to some of her subjects already off worshipping another goddess in her absence. Considering what she did to the Dakal...
[ if she tries to kill all the Nalawi on her return, he won't be super surprised. ]
no subject
( though that begs the question, how they're going to deal with a theoretical goddess. not likely the people that worshiped her had an idea of how to slow her down. )

[ ... not. But at least he has relative experience with creepy sacrifice rituals, so: ]
Okay, so what kind of sacrifice are we talking about? Ritual murder, just people getting killed or, like, specific people? Like, you know, virgins or law enforcers or something, is there a unifying factor? And is there anything that says the ritual will work? [ And hey, maybe some would flag him as crazy for believing it could work, but Stiles knows better. He's seen the rituals working-- it can happen. ]
no subject
Can't even be sure if the rituals will work. Not sure if the sacrifices are good enough to get Ryba to do anything.
I can say finding the little deer person that ran off during the council meeting like a possessed nutjob might help with answering some of this, though.
[ he's totally not passing any judgment, so stiles will get no suspicious behavior directed at him from Masamune, at least. ]

I assume you weren't able to secure more precise details regarding the council member who fled?
no subject
She didn't really stand out to me until my question miffed all of them. Even then, she acted so quickly I mainly caught her robes were much darker than the others. I didn't notice it before but when she fled and I looked to the other remaining members, it was surprisingly much more noticeable.
If I had to guess where she might run to, though, after saying something like that to start looking for her en route.., Lava Tunnels, maybe? Or any caves closer to the shore. Not sure if she's alone in this feeling or she has a group of others thinking similarly.
She looked a little... 'crazed'? 'haunted'??-- something like that --too, as much as a tiny deer can with its snout and beady eyes.
