[The feed is going to start up easier than it did last time. Looks like someone's actually learning how to use his communicator--how about that.

Either way, the face that Luffy's making this time around is a little bit unreadable. A smile is on his face, but somehow, if you're someone used to the sort of expression this man usually makes--it's clear that there's something not quite right with it.

Even if the tone that lights up the speakers is a bright one.]

Everyone been having fun yet? It's been messy, right? I hope no-one got too hurt when it came to the big ugly swamp monster. [After all, he'd gotten quite beaten up by it. Look at the bandages and scrapes on his hands and face.]

Even if you did, there's lots'a people here to fix you up, Like Torao. But anyway.

Have any of you seen Ace? My brother. He's always flying ahead of me when we go on adventures together, and he did it again this time around. So I think he got lost.

I'm sure we'll find him when the mission's over, but you know!!
It's not fair, I wanted to be the one who got ahead this time.

[He's so steeped in denial, it might hurt to hear. Sorry.]

You've drawn an excellent picture of your brother. I will do what I can to search for him for you, Captain... and do what it is that I can for you. That was the deal between us, was it not?

[It's really nice how both Shimada brothers call him Captain, and maybe he'd comment on it if he wasn't trying to keep calm about his brother having gone missing.

But Genji's voice is definitely a welcome addition here--especially with that reminder of their promise.]

Shishi. I'm glad you think it's good! [It's not, but he'll take every compliment about that anyway.] Thanks, Genji. It was part of our deal, huh. I knew I could count on you.

[Haha.]

[ Yes. If that person is gone, a body is always better than nothing. He nods. ]

It will aid me well in searching for him. You said to someone else that he is as fire? [ Interesting. Then, what could have--? He'll figure that out later. ] You are welcome, and that is just because I know that I could count on you in turn. I will do what I can to produce some results for you.

Oh, yeah! Me and Ace are Devil Fruit users. So he can turn his whole body into fire and shoot fire and stuff, it's super cool. [Because this is a normal thing for people to do.]

He can't fly, though, so he has to be around somewhere.

Devil Fruit ... I've never heard of anything like that before. [ Move to explain that, maybe? ]

Does that mean that you can fly?

Oh, yeah. People here don't seem to know what they are. [That will never get old, to be honest.] Devil Fruit are really gross fruit back where me and my nakama are from. People who eat'm get really cool powers depending on what one they eat. 'cept you sink like a hammer when you fall in the water, so there's that downside.

Nah, I can't fly. But I can propel myself real far distances if I want to--kind'a like flying!

I'm a rubber man. [He's learning, too, that saying this is always met with confusion, so--he doesn't wait for Genji to reply with a 'what'--he'll take a moment to flick the feed to video on his side before he reaches up--pulling out his face in an honestly... really inhuman way. Enjoy that.]

[ well. that is unexpected. but at least he can also show his face -- or metal mask and visor to luffy as well. he is quite glad that there is something in the way to hide his expression of pure shock in seeing him pull at his face like that. what's that old saying? keep making that face and it will stay that way? ]

Then, there are different fruit with different properties? You ate the one that made you into a rubber man. [ genji is aware that he's repeating himself, but he feels it is information that needs to be repeated a second time. well, this is fine. he comes from a world where there are talking scientist gorillas, sentient robots, cyborgs, ghosts -- yes, this sort of thing would fit right in with all that, yes? ]

That is amazing, Captain. Now wonder that you are captain. But I really don't think you should pull your face so much. What if it gets stretched out?

[Getting to see Genji's face had a few bonuses with it. He has a Cyborg on his ship, too--so he honestly expects for someone like Franky to flicker on his screen when Genji shows up. But the mask... Okay, that's not what he expects.

He'll inquire later.]

Yeah, you got it! There's all sort'sa different ones. [And yet here he is, not offering any examples. Whatever. Rubber and fire were enough. Nevermind that there were specific types and names and all sorts of dichotomy--you'll have to ask a different pirate. He's not a detail-oriented man.

And besides. There's something more important happening right now, anyway. He's being complimented. That's... honestly the best way to take his mind off of things. He's grinning like an idiot, moving to let his mouth snap back into place. Not before reaching up to pull out his ears, now, too.]

Yeah, I'm really strong! Bullets bounce right off me and everything, you know? And Nah. It won't get stretched out. I go back to normal right after, no matter what.

[ All sort of different ones, huh? That's kind of amazing in and of itself even if he thinks that it would fit into the oddness that is his own world. And he feels relieved to see Luffy smile -- really smile. Even if it has been but one conversation that he has had with the pirate captain, he finds that he would not like to see him be tormented or sad for long. ]

Is that so? That's what that person must have meant about you being so strong. I wonder if even my shuriken would do anything. Probably not. [ He has a soft smile wrap around his words. ] Is that so? Then, I suppose that means you could make as many faces as you like. Yours still seems like one that would look better smiling, though.

[ Please be okay. ]

[He's letting go again, his ears snapping back to settle against his head--as if they'd never been stretched out to begin with. It's definitely odd to look at, but hey--it could make people laugh and be impressed, so he was completely comfortable with it.

Steeping himself in denial about his brother's disappearance was probably a bad thing--but as he's been told before; remembering what he still had was how wounds on the heart were healed. And making new friends--such as the Shimada brothers--was a good step towards that.]

Shuriken? You can throw them? Whoa, I wanna see-- [NINJA, YOU'RE A NINJA--THAT IS THE SINGLE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD, NINJA ARE SO COOL.]

--Hweh. You're a pretty good guy, aren'tcha, Genji. [He'll... be okay, with time. Because there's no keeping a smile off of this man's face--clearly, because here it is again.]

Yes. I can. [ He would like to see that, huh? Genji adjusts the camera some to point to a branch up in the trees. He can always retrieve these later, anyway, right? There is the sound of the shuriken leaving his hand at surprising speed before the branch comes falling down. A brief pause before he is already hopping up the branches to pull the ones that he can retrieve out of the tree itself. Ah, looks like only one hit the trunk. Oh well. ]

Something like that. Though, it's more impressive against a moving target. [ There is a momentary pause as he shrugs, though it can't quite be seen. ] I am always trying to become better than what I am... I am touched that you see me as a good person. That is the kind of person that I see you, as well.

I may be echoing earlier sentiments but sometimes [ Especially in these times. ] I think it is good to reiterate compliments now and again.

[YES, he wants to see that. Yes, he wants to see your ninja tricks and--oh my god, Genji's actually going to show him. He looks like a 12 year old kid watching their favourite cartoon all of a sudden, stars in his eyes as he's fixated on Genji's image.

Not only could he throw ninja stars--oh my god look at the percision in the action and oh my god, he tore down a branch with NINJA STARS!!!! Just wait until Law heard about this, he was going to be so JEALOUS--]

That was so cool. [There's clear awe and wonder in his voice. Any of the tension that had been there--for now--was gone. A distraction it seemed is what he needed. And Genji was supplying in nines.

You sir, Genji, are getting dangerously into 'Join My Crew' territory. Please be careful with yourself.]

YOU'RE so cool. A ninja--a real ninja. [Another bubbly laugh.] Nihi, I'm happy we'll get along so well. I'm not sure if I'm gonna' be able to keep up with a REAL ninja, but...

[Shoulders hike up, and he tips his head to the side.] You're right. People like to hear how cool they are sometimes, right? [Read: He's probably never going to stop complimenting you.]

Thank you. Cyborg ninjas are, I suppose, very cool. [ He adds with a slight laugh. It's good to see that sort of awe and that the tension has faded. His own seems to as well. Yes, he'll still look for Ace, but if Ace's element is fire -- really, what could it be? ]

I am also happy that we do. I was worried when I heard that there was a pirate crew, but you all seem like good people. [ That is the thing that he thought and then changed his mind. Somehow, he feels like that would help Luffy's feelings to hear that he's made such a good impression on someone. Ah, maybe. ]

[Cyborg ninja are very cool, thank you very much for agreeing. Luffy nods his head, both hands settled on his hips now.
The others' comment about pirates isn't exactly uncommon, either--since he's gotten here, he's gotten more than a handful of people reacting with shock when he said he was a pirate.]

We're just here for the adventure, the treasure, and the fun. [And you know. To save lives, protect the people they care about, protect entire cities and rescue people out of danger. You know! Pirate stuff!]

Being a pirate just means that you're free from any rules.

It sounds like freedom.

[ But also should not fly too far as he knows what it's like to live overly free. ] Not all rules, though, hm? Well, I'm not here to lecture you on what a pirate does. [ And Luffy is young still. ] Youth is for something like that, right?

What's life if not for some fun stories to tell later?

[FREEDOM, YES!!! Yes, that's EXACTLY it! His shoulders hunch up, and his arms move up above his head in a nearly victorious pose.]

That's why I wanna' be the king! It's all about freedom!!!

[To be the man with the most freedom on the sea... that's all that mattered to him.]

You bet I got plenty of stories to tell. And I bet a cyborg-ninja guy has some, too.

Ne, I have a cyborg on my ship too, yanno.

Pirates can have kings?

[ That's a surprising notion that he's never heard of. ]

Franky, right? I heard a bit about him. [ Oh! ] But speaking of stories to tell, would you be willing to tell me the story about your hat?

Yeah! The last one was Gold Roger. But I'm gonna' find the treasure he left behind and become the new one.[And hilariously... he's the original owner of the very hat Luffy's wearing. Not that he's aware of that fact.

Speaking of the hat, he's now taking the old thing off his head with a crooked smile, looking down at it.]

Shishi. It's my treasure. Could you tell? Or did Hanzo tell you? [Look at that, he used his proper name.] It was given to me by a Pirate named Red-Haired Shanks. He hung out at a bar I went to a lot.

I tried to show him how tough I was and tried to get him to take me on a trip to sea but... [Luffy you were SEVEN.] He never did. But when he left port for the last time, he gave me this, his stupid hat that he always wore.

Then he made me promise to give it back to him when I became a great pirate. SO....

[He pulls the hat back on, tugging it over his eyes.]

I'm gonna' become the greatest there is and then return it to him one day. [Said with NOTHING but pride.]

No. Your crewmate told me to ask, because it was a good story.

[ But it's nice that Luffy told his story to his brother as well. His brother should attempt to have more and more good stories like these. Like the ones that their father would tell them. His eyes close before he breathes out a soft laugh. ]

It was a good story. It's a story of how you went to seek out your freedom and to become the best. There is no greater story than the start of your path and the people that you meet that help you on that journey. [ Does he sound old just now? Ah. Well, he is in his mid-thirties. ]

Not just return it to him, but tell him all that you have done, right? A returned worn hat is only as good as the stories attached to it. And I am certain it has some good ones for a pirate captain such as yourself. [ So, please, look toward that bright future and not toward the present that is so uncomfortable and sad right now. To have hope. To start this journey even if it must be knowing that his brother is gone. There is an end that is a happy one. So, please, have faith in that, Luffy. ]

[As he'd said to Genji before, the ninja really did talk with super flowery language. He can't say he'd ever repeat words like that to anyone when it came to his hat--but it's certainly how he felt. Of course, the day he met Shanks again, it'd be to tell him about everything he's seen on his travels through the seas.

And he'd be a great pirate, just like they promised.

With his hat still pulled down over his eyes, his smile seems a little more natural, a little less dour than it had been when the conversation first started.]

You like stories like that, huh? The start and the end? [He likes the middle of stories, himself.] Ne, if you ever want to hear some of the good stories already attached to it, you should hang out with me and my crew sometime.

I would be honored to spend time with you and your crew.

[ A small bow of his head. ] Thank you for the invitation. I shall be certain to do just that sometime.

Maybe when we're done the mission and are all back at that place we all started out.

I'll make sure to make a real party for everyone!

That sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

Still I would feel bad in making you do all the work.... would you allow me to help?

[Omg. Genji knows how to have fun--you've gotta' help him teach your brother that shit, man.]

The way parties go, the more the merrier, right? If Genji knows how to have fun, then I'll expect his help, too!
