VIDEO. UN: LOKI

[ the sound of the wind storm hollows dully against the cave walls. Loki's squidge, Bacon, can half be seen crawling in the confines of his tacky green jacket and over his knee from where he sits, sometimes ducking and squeaking when a particularly large gust hits. to keep it from screaming, Loki offers his fingers absently, which the little squidge pulls on with its pudgy arms before ducking low again. ]

Hello there, it seems like we'll be waiting this out for some time considering the weather-type circumstances. While we're all rotting away, etcetera etcetera, I thought we could amuse ourselves with a game. A little bit of team bonding funtimes, so to say. [ he twists a dark nailed hand in the air, gesturing. ]

Soo—oo ... it's called Two Truths and a Lie. How do you play? Glad you asked, it's simple! Give two true statements about yourself and add a lie to the mix, shake it up then toss it out there and see if your team members know you well enough to spot the lie.

Usually this is done with copious amounts of alcohol, but we're lacking at the moment. [ pause. ] But—ah—you could always enjoy the satisfaction of being right. It's not like we're doing much else.

NOTE | Feel free to threadjack if that's your thing!! :****

[Sorry to disappoint...]

I suppose it depends on what it is they're stealing.

Just snacks I happen to prepare in advance.

[Haise doesn't mind at all if she'd rather not play.

They can still talk, after all]

[!! New fact acquired.]

You must be a very good cook then. [Or at least adequate.] What types of snacks do you typically make?

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-07-31 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoy it, though I'm not a professional.

[He loves cooking for others, or he wouldn't do it, considering]

What I make depends on who I'm cooking for, really. For instance, he really likes sweets, so I've made things like taiyaki and daifuku before.

—'Taiyaki' and 'daifuku'?

[please note how terribly she butchers the pronounciation of those words.]

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-07-31 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they're both sweets where I'm from.

[At least it communicates clearly to him that the food must be foreign to her]

Daifuku is made with mochi and sweet bean filling. Mochi is rice that's been pounded into a kind of springy paste and then molded into the shape you want. Taiyaki's a cake shaped like a fish, with something like chocolate, custard, or sweet bean filling. You use pancake or waffle batter for the cake, and it's baked in a mold.

[She listens carefully to his explanations, wholly intrigued by this new set of foreign foods. Not all of her ALASTAIR experiences have been positive so far, but one good thing about being here is her exposure to new cultures and things.

Once he's given a full description:]

Those sounds delicious. Are they very difficult to make?

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-07-31 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, not at all! Taiyaki is especially simple.

[Pounding glutinous rice for mochi could take time of course, but it's not so bad. And taiyaki uses an easy batter and is baked, so it's not much work by comparison]

When I have the supplies on-hand I can make them fairly easily.

[Nothing he needs out here, but surely Oska had the ingredients]

[How wonderful-sounding.]

Was it something you wanted to learn for yourself, or did you parents teach you when you were young?

[The thought's foreign to her, but simply because she'd had a dysfunctional family hardly means everyone did.]

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-08-02 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[A pause. It'd be strange to announce he doesn't remember, to someone he's only just met]

I'm self-taught. When I was in training, I found I really enjoyed cooking for others.

[She hears that pause, but it means little to her. What does grab her attention is—]

—Training? For what?

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-08-02 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an investigator, so I went through training before I could act as a field operative.

[More specifically a ghoul investigator, but no need to get too detailed, right?]

[That's a title she can respect....though maybe without the ghoul bit.]

Were there many late nights when you needed to cook?

Usually not, unless a mission ran long. But dinner time after work was my time to shine.

[Said with more enthusiasm than strict pride, because he really does enjoy it that much]

The members of my squad all have different tastes, but that just came down to finding out what they had in common.

[She's aware enough to catch that hint of enthusiasm. It's cute.]

It sounds like the members of your squad are quite close with one another.

[If they're eating meals together.]

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-08-07 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it took a while for them to become a cohesive team, but I like to think they get along well, now.

[For which he can only be happy. Urie was the most resistant, but he feels that he can see a difference there too]

[It sounds like any other team she's ever seen and been a part of. She hesitates before asking her next question, still bound slightly by her desire not to overstep.]

Do you miss them?

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-08-08 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be lying if I said I didn't...they're pretty much my world.

[And, so far as he's concerned, his family.

He doesn't know much of his past, but in the present, he had his squad and his superiors]

But I'm sure we've all got people we miss.

[She can understand that; she feels the same way about her own team, after all. And even though she doesn't say as much aloud, her answer's evident enough in her brief downward slant of her gaze and the smile touching her lips.

Only a moment's spared for sentiment before she returns her attention back to Haise.]

I hope you get to see them again soon.

[personal profile] ex_adept136 2016-08-09 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Haise takes note of her expression, though he avoids making his attention pointed. For some those sentiments are a quiet matter, and he can understand that. Whether in word, deed, or both, how they feel comes through one way or another]

I'll have quite the story to tell when I do... And I hope you'll see your associates soon as well.

[He gets the feeling, even from that quiet moment, that they're alike in this]
