so i was down here, you know, trapped and bored, and fucking around on my cell even though that's maybe not my best idea ever because there's sure as hell no solar recharge down here and what else am i gonna do for light, make a torch (hell no)
anyway point is i just noticed it's my fucking birthday today back home
so this is probably the shittiest birthday yet
i just wanted to make you guys all aware of how bad you should be feeling for me. as soon as i punch my way out of here i'll start accepting pity/condolence/regular birthday presents, so have them ready

I haven't really done anything like that since I gained my vallaslin and proved I was an adult. My... brother and I might swap gifts sometimes if we remembered and had something appropriate but we didn't really keep track of the day.

But I'd be happy to celebrate with you if we get out of here.

Not that I mind the offer but it seems strange to be concerned about it. Lots of people can't or don't celebrate when they're born. Is it something that's expected where you're from?

But why do they matter? You're an adult aren't you? So why keep count that accurately?

Nobles tend to do it a lot with parties and gifts and things like that, but my clan and a number of people I've known in my life tend to not have time or much to give.

[He can remember the Chargers and their gift for Iron Bull and that gets a small smile from him.] It's nice if you can, if it's quiet enough to take that time, but I haven't really thought about it much since I was a child counting down until I was old enough to prove myself an adult and earn my vallaslin.

I don't mean to say I don't think you should celebrate yours, by the way, it just took me by surprise, that's all. Now I think more about it, it is nice that people here feel close enough to others to want to celebrate something together.
