[ Koltira sits in a comfortable albeit sparsely furnished room, on the edge of a neatly made bed. There's someone sitting with him, but only her hand--slim fingers clasped in his, gold bracelets on her wrist--is visible. He looks to her for a second, his expression briefly unsure, and his long ears twitch at her inaudible (but presumably encouraging) reply.
He clears his throat. ]
Some of you already know this, but I'm told it would be best if I shared the information broadly.
[ He has doubts, but what Olivia wants, Olivia gets.
Koltira raises his free hand. Purplish-black shadows engulf it, shimmering darkly, writhing around his palm. He repeats what he has said to Sieglinde, to Princess Sonia. ]
Those who stand with me do not fall. If you perish in battle--against these slugs or otherwise--I can restore you to life.
[ He makes a fist, and the shadows dissipate. ]
It is a true resurrection, but there are caveats. Firstly, I must reach you quickly. Preferably within a day's time. Second, the process is unpleasant. You will suffer pain, and you will be sick. Likely for almost a week afterwards. Third, it is not guaranteed. Occasionally the Light decrees that our time has come, and the spirit cannot be reunited with the body.
[ Koltira shifts on the bed. The thick duvet is cream-colored, red-checked. Homey. He seems to be in the guest room of a farm house.
Olivia squeezes his hand. ]
This is not an invitation to be reckless. It is merely a safeguard against catastrophe.
[ He pauses, as though thinking about what else to add. His expression goes slightly sour. ]
Again, I stress: it is a true resurrection. You will not be as I am. You will be whole, and you will be hale, once you recover from the trauma of the process.
[ He has the ability to bring them back as undead, of course. He could make them as he is, he could turn them to ghouls. But he wouldn't. Not ever. ]
Still. Try to stay alive.

I'm afraid I can't help you much there. I've never been particularly religious.
[god is dead, love is over, etc.]

This isn't something that the laws of nature allow to happen, where I come from. I hope this doesn't disrupt anything elsewhere but....it's hard to say.
Though I truly hope no one is reckless enough to through their life away in light of this.

[more cheerfully] BUT we can't cast Koltira-san's offer aside after he was kind enough to share it with us. We just have to be cautious and hope our team is smarter than that.
no subject
I can't say I trust everyone on this team to be capable of such forward thinking.

[he's only like... half joking.]

With any luck from the rest of us, they won't.
[But! She's more interested in something else he's mentioned already.]
You mentioned that disrupting the balance between living and dead never lead to anything good where you came from. What types of consequences usually occurred?
no subject
[casual quincy near-genocide, you know.] But essentially if souls aren't allowed to pass as normal into the afterlife to be reborn and continue the cycle, there can be an imbalance, and that can cause both worlds to collapse. That only applies to where I'm from. There's no telling if it's true everywhere.
But it's something worth dotting my I's and crossing my T's over.
ah dw why won't you send me my notifs, gently shakes fist at maintenance
Tampering with death results in a different punishment where I'm from, but the act itself is no less dire.
But if I notice anything off, I'll be sure to let people know.
[But hopefully it doesn't come to that.]
because life is suffering and hates us
[in fact, he hasn't really felt much spiritual activity in any singular place- Oska, Zeta-12, or Perdition's Rest. Not a Plus to be seen. Or a Hollow, which is a mercy. But that would also mean there's no Soul Society equivalent.
WHERE DO THE DEAD GO???]no subject
But actually, that's relieving to hear, though she finds herself curious as to what sorts of things he's noticed (or hasn't noticed, as the case may be).]
Can you sense—spiritual disruption, or something along those lines?
no subject
Spiritual anything, really. It's not uncommon where I'm from for people to feel out these sorts of things. Maybe not on that level, but I like to keep ahead of the game.
no subject
And what reason is there to feel out such things? Are you some sort of gatekeeper for the living and the dead?
no subject
Some spirits don't cross over peacefully and become monsters. It's good to know where those threats might come from if you can see them. You just can't be open to one side of the spiritual side of things without opening yourself to all of it. Unless you intentionally blind yourself.
[tapdances around the truth.]
no subject
And you're tasked with taking care of those monsters? Or is that someone else's job?
no subject
[that is, at least, the truth.]
no subject
Then I hope you're able to do so soon, once you're allowed to return home from here.
no subject
I hope so too. But... for now, I suppose it's not so bad trying to keep up with ALASTAIR's agenda, aside from being kept in the dark more than I'd like.
