[ McCree's just lounging somewhere outside in catland, maybe in a quiet corner of one of the plazas. Far from the meowing crowd. He's got his cigarillo dangling from the corner of his mouth, and he puffs on it intermittently, looking thoughtful. ]

Gotta say, this is a real nice little respite after all the mess we just got through. These cats have been mighty hospitable, too, and it was good of'em to take us in.

[ A pause. He leans forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. ]

But, y'know ... just between you and me, I'm really more of a dog person.

[ He takes a slow drag of the cigarillo, puffs out a cloud of smoke.

[ It's not so often that people actually validate McCree's opinion of himself. He leans forward, and a flash of surprise crosses his face, but it's quickly subsumed by his usual easy-going grin. ]

Well, nice to know somebody around here pays attention.

[ TO HOW GREAT HE IS! ]

But y'know, speaking of ... how are you holdin' up?

me? not too bad i guess
i definitely didnt have it as bad as some others here
i know were all kinda worried about oska and stuff but to be honest
im kind glad for this little "break"
i think the teams really hurting for it

[flashbanging]

I did break a sweat a time or two. Nearly got ate up by Hanzo's dragons.

[ Puff. ]

But it all turned out right, yeah?

[competing]

[ did that happen in the quarantine? lance knows hanzo had admitted himself,
but once lance had sectioned himself off from everyone else, he sort of... lost track.
of anything. ]

i guess? i think it could have gone better but
its all just stuff to keep in mind for next time, right?

[flashbanging]

[ He scratches his beard. ]

Always room for improvement. We did save a lotta lives, though--by my count, leastaways.

[competing]

yeah our science people really pulled through in the clutch huh?
and all the people out in the streets, helping the innocents
it might not have been the cleanest win
but that was still definitely a win in my book

[flashbanging]

A fine effort all 'round.

[ He sighs. ]

It was tough, though. Seein' our folks brought down like that. Seein' Hanzo like that.

[competing]

I'm sorry. [ that he had to experience that. that lance wasn't around to help him or hanzo back up afterward. ]

Are you guys... doing better now?

[flashbanging]

Aw, we're fine. Right as rain.

[ He shakes his head. ]

It was just a strange thing, what with him usually so restrained and all. Shook me up pretty bad.

[competing]

Yeah...? [ he has a hard time imagining it too, knowing what he knows now of hanzo.

then again... hadn't he himself lost control?

slightly more muted, he glances down. ] Yeah, I... I think I can understand. I hope you had someone around afterwards.

[flashbanging]

[ He shrugs. ]

Just each other and a big ol' bottle of vodka. That booze was a fine friend, though.

[competing]

So long as you guys were alright, I guess... But if you wanted other company, don't hesitate to give us a call.

[flashbanging]

Same goes for you, partner.

[ It's hard--he can tell that Lance is a little like him. The kind of person who prefers to laugh things off, be cavalier in the face of difficulties. And McCree's not one to push. But he's around, regardless. ]

[competing]

Thanks. [ the way he says it seems to imply he already knew, though. the opposite never really seemed to occur to lance. they're all a team, after all. and mccree, for better or for worse, has always extended a hand out to help him. ]
