[ Oyez, oyez, oyez, you’ve got a call on your magical crystal. Pick up the phone and you’ll see Glee, looking serene, confident, and in her element in (1) organizing things and (2) telling people what to do. ]

It has been almost two months since we were conscripted by ALASTAIR, and we have yet to meet, introduce ourselves, and discuss what we’ve learned in person and in an orderly fashion. In light of recent… developments, increased cooperation will become a necessity to pool what we’ve learned and plan a deliberate way forward.

I expect all of you at the red warehouse between the commoner's district and the outskirts, six days from now at sundown. For those of you inclined to provoke tensions with local law enforcement, incarceration is not an excuse for tardiness or absence.

Not redundant. It indicates that my encounter was not out of character for him.

Fair enough. I haven't noted much trouble from him unless his ego is challenged, but in a group this diverse I don't doubt that someone will always be around to do so.

He was slaughtering goblings and desecrating their corpses.

I do not think that they challenged his ego.

That is, admittedly, a bit worse than I'd anticipated.

Someone at ALASTAIR should have been more selective with the hiring process.

I question whether there was a hiring process, beyond "grab the first fifty people we find."

[There are people with useful skills, okay. That's fine. He'll even give people who think they're more useful than they are a pass. But between children, idol singers, and a few other select cases, he's got Questions about the wisdom of this venture.]

It is... unsettling, that an organization sophisticated enough to tear holes in time and space would not also have the capabilities to choose its staff wisely.

[ She means, she definitely wouldn't. She can think of a few beings who would bring in unsuitable beings for giggles, but those also aren't the sort of beings capable of building an organization in the first place. ]

If power guaranteed wisdom, I imagine most worlds would be in better shape.

Still, it is strange. The worst uses of power I've seen have usually been from those who inherit it, not those who have to build their bases from the ground up. Do we know how long ALASTAIR has been active?

[Long enough for management to have changed hands, maybe?]

[ She'd peg worst abuses of power to people who go insane and then can't be convinced to clean up their messes, but abuse of inherited power is up there. ]

No. We know astoundingly little about our employer.

[The most insane leader in power in his time was probably Nobunaga, and...well, the man did get shit done, at least.]

Pity. I suppose there's little we can do but go with it and look for chances to learn something.

[ Her world is still recovering from the time the god of light and order went batshit crazy and put a family of incestuous cannibals in charge of the world for 2,000 years; they should chat about this sometime. ]

The most telling thing so far was the way they announced what happened with the dragons -- that the dragons would bring about the world's natural end. Whoever delivered that message must have known that some people would assume the worst about ALASTAIR after that.

[Glee 10, Muneshige 0. But this is a story he'd probably find fascinating even if he's got nothing that compares.]

I wasn't here for the previous mission; I've only heard secondhand. But there was no attempt at further explanation or justification, correct?

Not that I've heard of.

Whether they think we won't like the explanation or simply aren't important enough to hear it, I'm not fond of the implication either way.
