[ While the jailbreak ends and everyone goes back to their lives as fugitives, three (four, including another one on another important mission) gods have put it upon themselves to have a kidnapping. There's the familiar face of Michel, placed unceremoniously upright on a stump, a paper bag over his head supporting a cheesy looking inked smiley. Loki, stepping back like she's adjusting a camera, waves a hand toward him in a long, lackadaisical motion. Let no one say that Loki didn't have a flair for dramatics. ]

We've got it in the bag, or so the mortals say. Ah—shall we do introductions?

Everyone! I present the leader of the Order of the Chimera himself, Mister Michel, straight from the slammer. With circumstances as they are, we thought it best that he didn't make a further mess of things. On the more unfortunate side, that makes all of us super double traitors, both to the crown and the Order ... [ jazz hands!!! ] To the least, the history books will name us resourceful ones. ... you know, if they don't erase of us entirely. It has to be something about the job description ...

[ She's not alone, both Thor and Ahad stand behind her, the darkly cloaked Thunderer with his arms folded and Ahad fingering a cigarillo. Loki straightens the lapels of her jacket and gives a long glance back at the two of them. ]

He's been kind of enough to answer a few of our questions, but it's been—ah, less than enlightening.

[ Which is when Thor move forward, arms loosening though his gaze remains hard on Michel. Or at least, his paper bag. ]

He speaks of his gods as if in conference with them. If they find the schism between peoples here unnatural then have them present a solution that is not blotting out the sun and throwing the realm under their care into chaos. [ A growl rumbles in the back of his throat as he paces to one side. ] He could not send a message, as he said, unless he were first a messenger. I would meet with these gods, if they live elsewhere than his excuses.

[ And likely demand they guide their people if things are so dire. Or introduce their faces to Mjolnir, at this rate, instead of letting one of a pair of brothers lapse into magic-fueled madness … not that Thor is personally touched by any of this, no. ]

[ Meanwhile, Ahad simply sighs, remaining in his position in the background. There's one further practical consideration, which he means to address. ]

[ Try though he might to make sense of this, Cullen can't. He mulls over whether he ought to expose his ignorance, then decides that he isn't going to be useful if he doesn't know what in the Void is going on. ]

I'm sorry, I thought we were meant to be working for a legitimate organization. Is that not so?

[ Forgive him, he's a new recruit. ]

[ for someone so sketchy, Loki has no problem flitting along and doing her own thing. a little double-crossing here, a little doing what she wants there ...

she's not exactly on board with ALASTAIR, but there's a nagging, anxious feeling about the whole thing that she doesn't let show. ]

You'll have to define "legitimate."

[officer]

[ It's a fair demand for clarification. He considers for a moment. ]

It was my understanding that we're meant to be aiding people, not subverting the government.

[ Maker, but he hates politics. He sighs. ]

Or is doing so the method by which we provide aid?

As much as the monarchy here probably deserves a little subverting, I'd be more inclined to say that this is a bit more of a precautionary measure. We'll deal with our genocidal King later.

[ she jabs a thumb back at Michel. ] Him? He's caused a lot of trouble. Blotted out the sun, killed some people, and is scheming up something bigger. It probably won't be pretty.

[officer]

[ From the sounds of it, Cullen's got his information crossed. Well, now he knows better. ]

He's a mage, then?

[ He tries not to sound too suspicious when he asks the question, but the tone leaks in anyway. ]

What's to be done with him?

[ Loki looks right at Cullen.







and shrugs.

YOU'RE WELCOME. ]

[officer]

[ He looks back, faintly exasperated. ]

If he's such a great danger to this world, perhaps you should kill him.

That would make for a good story, wouldn't it? He'd make a fine martyr.

[officer]

Yet letting a dangerous man free to bring harm to more people is not always the best course of action.

[selfimage]

There's a wide, gaping gap between kill him and let him go. Impossible to cross. We'll need a bridge of some sort.

[officer]

Then how do you propose to contain a man who can make the sun disappear?

[selfimage]

Last time I checked there were quite a lot brains here. We don't need to settle on the obvious, it's ... uncouth! [ she chirps the words. ]

[officer]

[ He sighs. ]

We don't always have the luxury of elegant solutions to our problems.

Then you and I will just have to agree to disagree. To me it just sounds, hm, well—lazy.

[ her voice clucks the word out, rolling to deliver the barb. ]

[officer]

[ The opinion of a stranger hardly matters to him. ]

And to me, allowing a dangerous man who's proven that he doesn't value the lives of others the opportunity to take more lives sounds foolish. If he kills again, we'll know who shares part of the blame.

[ this is a familiar situation.

she leans forward a bit, dark lashes over green eyes. ]

Then, tell me, if we didn't take him, and he went on his cataclysmic rampage, would I have avoided blame all together? Or ... would that mean that you would share the blame as well?

[officer]

That depends if you were ignorant of his crimes and lacked the means to apprehend him or if you deliberately allowed him to go free knowing full well what he's done.

Had I done the former, yes, I would also share the blame.

[selfimage]

So ... [ she twists her dark nailed finger in the air. ] Then if we didn't capture him it would have been everyone's fault that knew of his crimes. Certainly there were enough of us to overwhelm him.

And because we did something about it, it makes it our fault.

[ then, mostly to herself. ]

I suppose that's the thanks we get for making sure people aren't dying.

[dailydouble]

Legitimacy shifts, depending on your perspective.

[ This is not an easy yes or no. Ahad has his doubts about the legitimacy of anything here, but sees little need to delve into that yet. ]

[officer]

[ He makes a quiet sound of agreement. ]

I have seen evidence of that in another place. [ A pause. ] This Order of the Chimera works to do us harm?

[dailydouble]

The Order of the Chimera works for their own form of justice. [ He'll shrug. ]

They have done harm to others in pursuit of it, but there is enough harm that has been done by all sides.

[officer]

And which side are we, the members of this ALASTAIR organization, meant to be on?

[dailydouble]

Our own side, I would think.

[ He'll leave it open whether he means all of ALASTAIR is on one side or that they're all on their own individual sides. ]

[officer]

[ Well, that sounds familiar. Both what's said and the possible meanings for what's gone unsaid. ]

I see. It isn't the first time I've been in such a position. Thank you for the information.
