[It's the first time that Merlin's broadcasted a video of his own, normally content to just poke his nose into others. He's sitting at a table, chin propped up on his fist, the universal pose of Deep Thought.]

I've been thinking a lot lately. [And that would be the point where Arthur would inevitably have something to say about that. It feels...odd, being able to continue without interruption. And not in an entirely good way.] About the humans and the goblins, but mostly about those who found themselves caught in-between. It's difficult, living your life in secret, wondering where you fit in, if you fit in at all.

[He's getting that wounded bear face again, a long expression with sad round eyes.]

I'm not trying to excuse anything terrible that's been done. By anyone. I was only wondering if anyone else knows what it's like to feel like an outcast.

[Yeah, that sounds a little ominous. Merlin hasn't lived through all the instances of it in history yet but he's smart enough to know that a "perfect" world would mean an entire group being wiped from it.]

If that happens we'll have failed our mission for sure.

According to who? Our mission is to bring peace between the two sides and bring back the sun. The two sides being gone seems peaceful enough. Not a very good outcome, but sometimes I doubt ALASTAIR's intentions. It brings back Anwick flashbacks.

The dragons.

[He's not wrong. And Merlin can't say that he trusts ALASTAIR any further than he could throw them.

Which isn't very far.]

Then I don't want that to happen, not to anyone.

Yes, the dragons. Good at causing an apocalypse, aren't they? Both they and Michel seem to have that in common.

[ there's an exasperated sigh that comes from his lips and a faint, non-committal shrug of his shoulders. ]

It's too bad of the world scenarios aren't in the job description; I'm sure I'm not the only one who has it on their resume.

What do you mean? And what's a resume?

[Because he asks the hard-hitting questions. You don't really have to humor him, Loki.]

There's a pattern between here and Anwick, and it comes with a capital "A."

[ there's a dramatic pause, and the he clarifies. ]

For apocalypse.

You don't think they'd just send us here for a conflict between sides, do you? Even the sun thing is reaching. There's better things to be done if you want to save the multiverse. This is small bananas.

Except it's not, is it? Take a look outside the scope of our mission.

Do you think ALASTAIR is more in the business of destroying worlds than anything else?

[Because the more Loki says, the more Merlin fears it might be. It's probably not a question to be asked or answered out loud.]

Possibly.

[ Loki says far too easily for the context. ]

We may be here to aid Michel rather than hinder him. As I've said, "peace" could be gained in several ways. They have a knack for omission that even I'm impressed with.

Yeah, I thought I was good at keeping secrets.

[Though for Merlin it's more luck than anything.]

I don't think he made a very good impression though, do you?

Pariahs rarely do.

That is what you were originally inquiring to, isn't it?

I just meant that if we were meant to help him, and if he'd gone about it a different way, he could've gotten more of us on his side.

Not that I'm complaining.

He was much surer in the way he went about things, wasn't he? We are unpredictable catalysts, after all.

That's true, even I don't know what I'm doing half the time.

[It would be funnier if it wasn't true.]

Do you know what you're going to do? Or maybe you've already decided.

Decided what? What I'm going to do? [ there's a little shrug. ] Kinda sorta. I'm more of a "see what happens" type.

[ you know, a 'set things on fire and see what happens' type. ]
