[It's the first time that Merlin's broadcasted a video of his own, normally content to just poke his nose into others. He's sitting at a table, chin propped up on his fist, the universal pose of Deep Thought.]

I've been thinking a lot lately. [And that would be the point where Arthur would inevitably have something to say about that. It feels...odd, being able to continue without interruption. And not in an entirely good way.] About the humans and the goblins, but mostly about those who found themselves caught in-between. It's difficult, living your life in secret, wondering where you fit in, if you fit in at all.

[He's getting that wounded bear face again, a long expression with sad round eyes.]

I'm not trying to excuse anything terrible that's been done. By anyone. I was only wondering if anyone else knows what it's like to feel like an outcast.

It's fairly common around these parts. [Hardly surprising when you consider that they've been brought here for a certain purpose.]

The feeling of seclusion is never pleasant.

Has anyone ever made you feel that way?

Yes, it started when I was just a young boy. [Talking about his childhood...that's a first. Merlin asked though.]

My relatives refused to deal with me in any from. I was beginning to think that I was more like a monster rather than a person. After all, monsters have no place within society. Wouldn't you agree?

[After that he was taken into an orphanage but, it happened so long ago. ]

I grew up wondering that very same thing - if I was a monster.

[But his mother still loved him, Merlin never doubted that. It doesn't sound like he had quite the same luxury.]

Did they ever tell you why?

No, I was sent off to another location afterwards. I never had the opportunity to learn why. [Julius did overhear his relatives calling him a brat and saying other unpleasant things. He's sympathetic towards Merlin's situation because he found someone who understands what it feels like to be isolated.]

How about you?

My mother sent me off too, but only because she was worried about what would happen to me if I stayed in our village. It turns out she was right. Things were better in Camelot. In some ways, anyway.

[The fear of execution was much greater, but he had friends and purpose.]

[Ouch. That's not really cool, but at least it wasn't all bad.]

Julius Visconti, former Captain of special forces Blood. I was sent off to humanity's last standing military fortress.

That's where I grew up. [One of the research division's leaders is actually his surrogate mother.]

We have more in common than I'd like to admit. What kind of place is Camelot?

It's...amazing. There's a castle and a lower town, a marketplace and a tavern, feasts and jousts. I'd never seen anything like it when I first arrived. It seems like there's always something to do.

[A pause.]

For me it's mostly washing floors and mucking out stables. But that's just the life of a servant.

It must have been preferable to wherever you were staying before.

Even a servant has duties they need to uphold. [It really does sound like Merlin came from some fantasy world. Much different from the place Julius knows.]

It's a shame you were pulled away from such a beautiful location.
