[It's the first time that Merlin's broadcasted a video of his own, normally content to just poke his nose into others. He's sitting at a table, chin propped up on his fist, the universal pose of Deep Thought.]

I've been thinking a lot lately. [And that would be the point where Arthur would inevitably have something to say about that. It feels...odd, being able to continue without interruption. And not in an entirely good way.] About the humans and the goblins, but mostly about those who found themselves caught in-between. It's difficult, living your life in secret, wondering where you fit in, if you fit in at all.

[He's getting that wounded bear face again, a long expression with sad round eyes.]

I'm not trying to excuse anything terrible that's been done. By anyone. I was only wondering if anyone else knows what it's like to feel like an outcast.

I always imagined the outside world would be something like this place- without... The goblins, of course, but.

You know what's worse than goblins though? Trolls.

[He makes a face at that.]

How're you liking it?

You've seen a troll?

[She's torn on how to answer, that much is obvious.]

It is...not as good as I'd dreamed it would be, but. That was naive of me.

[servant]

The king was married to one for a short time.

[Merlin tries not to smile too much. It was less funny at the time, but now...Uther kissed a troll and he almost feels sorry for the troll.]

I'm sorry. I wish the world were better and showed you only amazing things.

Was the troll under some sort of... glamour spell?

[Otherwise good lord, how did that happen?]

- the outside world is a terrifying place. That's what I was always told. I suppose it's just... somewhere in between.

Yes, that was exactly it. And she had the king under her spell as well.

It's not all terrifying or dull. Sometimes it can be quite wonderful - I'll show you.

The troll could do magic itself?

[The plot thickens?!]

Yeah. They have their own sort of magic. It's mostly digusting.

Everything that's great with the world - any world. I'm going to start looking for more of the good things so I can take you to see them.

What are they capable of besides glamor spells?

[O... Oh. Sieglinde might most definitely have the wrong idea here, but. That's... Really nice...]

You would do that simply for me?

[servant]

Mostly disgusting things. But they're powerful too.

What 'simply'? We're friends, I want to do it.

[grunehexe]

[Trolls were interesting, too, but-]

Oh, yes- that's right. We are friends. That is what friends do.

[Is it???]

[servant]

Right.

[He grins brighter.]

Then... I will look forward to what it is you choose to show me of this outside world, Merlin.

And I shall continue to expect your aid when it comes to herbal work- do not forget.

I won't, I promise. You can still call on me day or night.

[He's used to that, and finds that he actually likes it better that way.]

I am told calling at night would be most inappropriate, but... I shall keep the possibility in mind. If you insist.

It wouldn't be the first time, believe me.

You are. Often called upon for your services at night?

[servant]

I wouldn't say that it was often. But sometimes someone would have need for Gaius in the middle of the night if they were especially sick. Or Arthur would send someone after me if there was a fire or an intruder or...a rat in his chambers.

[grunehexe]

Oh, yes- of course. Those sorts of services.

[Not anywhere near as exciting as she'd ho-]

... Arthur is afraid of rats?

He's not afraid of them, he just don't like them. Especially not since I tried to feed one to him once.

The kingdom was being afflicted with famine! There was no food anywhere, but he ordered me to find him some after I killed the rat that made a hole in his boot.

Oh, well... If it was a famine that seems far more reasonable...
