[ Undyne had said she wanted more guidance from ALASTAIR. Here she is, with more guidance, and she doesn’t know if she likes it. Looking more ragged than ever, she’s standing with Pearl, with the volcano Nalalona in the background. ]

Alright chumps, listen up, it’s time for some teamwork! ALASTAIR has some ideas about what we can do to get the volcano going again, so everyone can get their powers back. ...it’s going to involve a bomb.

[Pearl clears her throat, despite the fact her body is flickering in and out of view at some points during the video. The Gem stands tall as she gestures back to the volcano.]

This is correct. ALASTAIR has entrusted us with schematics of creating a bomb and a catapult. It’s up to us to gather the necessary supplies and assemble them.

They have observed a high level of tectonic plate activity here, near the Nalalona volcano. With enough force -- the bomb in this case -- we can possibly trigger an eruption and restore the natives’ Gifts, along with our own magical abilities. The volcano’s opening is large enough for us to hit our mark with the bomb. It’s up to us to put it all together.

We can’t afford to not try. Look around you, half our team relies on magic just to exist. This isn’t just about helping the natives use magic anymore, this about saving ourselves. If you don’t use magic, good for you, but if you have a heart, you’ll understand why this is important, and why if I catch anyone slacking off, they’ll be answering to my spear about why they don't think it's important. Got it?!

[Pearl glances to Undyne and offers her a weak smile. The situation they were all facing was quite dire. She faces the feed again.]

I know we have the ability to make this work. And we will, if we all work together on this. Every little bit helps!

[ OOC note: There will be a mod-posted mass log on the 16th for gathering/construction/etc. Pearl and Undyne will be around, and feel free to use this post to chat among each other as well! ]

[ OOC edit: The NPCs Crowley and Cherenkov speak! ]

Would you care to explain how exactly testing explosives will act to return lost power? Your initiative is welcome, to an extent, but before you jump to such an extreme you should justify it.

The eruption of a volcano isn't to be taken likely, even if it's a minor instance.

It is not testing. We have done the tests. An explosion will trigger an eruption; we have done the math. If eruptions are linked to power flow, that's all that matters.

[personal profile] blacksilk 2016-04-09 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I possess no doubts that an explosion set in the right place may trigger an eruption.

I've asked for justification.

You offer speculation. Can you offer evidence that lessened volcanic activity is responsible for this?

[personal profile] crowleyology 2016-04-09 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
As recruits StrongFish91 and Pearl have said, we have observed unusually high concentrations of energy trapped in the volcano Nalalona. According to your teammates' own observations, the Nalawi associate the loss of power with the cessation of eruptions.

If you disagree that this is justification enough, you are more than welcome to conduct your own readings. I do not care.

[personal profile] blacksilk 2016-04-09 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The power that's trapped there may not necessarily be the power that was stolen from our group or the Nalawi. To imprison power you would require a great deal of power to be created as well. It could be an outside source, independent of what was stolen. Simply because one associates volcanic activity with power doesn't mean that power would be returned as a result.

There could be an outside force independent of that information.

This is a gamble, no matter how you articulate it; so, I may actually be pleasantly surprised if it works.

As I said, if you do not find this enough justification, I do not care. If you are uncomfortable taking gambles, I suggest you quickly learn.

[personal profile] blacksilk 2016-04-09 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I advise you practice your own suggestions as well. In the presence of unknown variables, a complex calculation can swiftly become meaningless.

I'm not saying I won't participate, but your self-assured mindset will result in disappointment eventually.

Pride is folly. 'Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.'

Do you have contingency plans in the event of failure or undesirable, additional results?

If you're set to this plan, then your allies deserve this information.

And does said math include the range and impact of such an explosion, as well as the resulting eruption from the volcano?

[Never mind her objections to explosives, there's not point restoring Gifts back to the Nalawi if they're all too dead to use said Gifts.]

The volcano cannot erupt beyond its natural range. That is not geologically impossible.

To clarify: we are not "blowing up" the volcano, as so many of you are assuming. We are stimulating volcanic eruption.

It's extremely rude to have so many of you questioning us after we went through the trouble of doing these readings. If your team prefers to continue fruitlessly batting at windows, we can take our help back.

[Don't be such a little prat, cat.]

You haven't given us much reason to place our faith in you, based on past experience.

Why give us this information now? Are we below expectations again?

[ riza have you ever met a cat before in your life. ]

If you're still smarting over the stress test in Oska, I invite you to get over it, recruit Hawkeye.

To the point: yes. We have technology to do proper readings and thought we would give you a gentle nudge in an actual scientific direction instead of running about looking for missing gods.

I'm willing to collaborate.

My sight is narrow enough as is. I don't want to make the same mistakes ALASTAIR might make if I had the insight to avoid it.

Call me kitty again, lizard, and your return to Oska will be very unpleasant.

The volcano will not erupt past its normal radius. The lava flow will not reach the other islands. It is perfectly safe, assuming your team doesn't stay on the island once the bomb is deployed.

what do you want me to call you then

So it's not an explosive volcano? If it's usually constantly erupting that would make sense, but in my home lava flow is not the concern from an eruption.

[personal profile] crowleyology 2016-04-09 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
My name is Crowley. That would suffice.

This is a salient point. There may be some danger due to the unusual pressure buildup in the time since the last eruption. To be safe, moving the locals from the closest islands may be advisable. However, we do not anticipate debris, if any, being very far reaching. Thank you for this consideration; I will add it to our algorithm.

I see, so there really are some preparations we can make. I imagine they'll be angry if they find out ALASTAIR is trying to set off a sacrilegious eruption, but there's nothing any of us can do at this point, is there?

[there's a lot she could say... the goddess probably isn't a sham, that it might be valuable to teach their team the skills to be entirely self-sufficient, alastair is again gambling with their lives and they couldn't care less and it's fair,

but she doubts she will be heard.

who knows if a volcanic eruption is more important than religion, but saving innocent nalawi definitely outranks it.]
