[Okay. This isn't hard. He's stuck here... and... there's no real way back so the best option is to work with this ALASTAIR ... clan? Clan. In order to fix issues in different places...
... and this ear cuff will let him talk to people but he has no idea how. Jewelry doesn't let you talk to people?? Talking to people lets you talk to people??
Carefully and very tentatively, like he's worried the communicator is about to leap out at him and grab him, Yukimura sets the little ear cuff communicator on the ground in front of him and crouches down in so he's eye level with it. Enjoy the overabundance of red.]
...
[He takes a deep breath. He was told he could talk to people, but he can't see anyone so... he'll have to speak loudly so he can be heard.
Brace yourself, Futurology.]
HELLO?
[... Nothing.]
HELLO, ARE YOU ABLE TO HEAR ME THROUGH THIS PIECE OF JEWELRY?
[Still nothing?? This is concerning him. Is he alone here, other than the man who had spoken to him when he first arrived? What should he do in this situation? Begin a scouting mission to search out any signs of life? Or should he continue shouting through this piece of jewelry he doesn't really believe is doing what he was told it would do.
...
Option B it is.]
I AM WORRIED THAT THIS JEWELRY IS NOT DOING WHAT I WAS TOLD IT WOULD, AND THAT I WILL FIND MYSELF AT A COMMUNICATION DISADVANTAGE IF THIS DOES NOT WORK. CAN ANYONE HEAR ME? [He reaches out and taps on the side of the cuff, shaking the image rather violently.] ANYBODY?
[TAP. TAP. TAP.
BEEP.]
... [He leans forwards, almost conspiratorially and whispers....] Hello?
[... Someone help this poor, unsuspecting loser out. Please. For the sake of your eardrums if nothing else.]

i keep flitting between western name order and japanese name order and ide care now... ............
... until she asks him questions. He can do introductions!! Introductions are fine.]
I am Yukimura Sanada. I have not met someone with the title of "magus" before. [Although he has now met a witch further down this intro post, apparently.] Do you have a specialty of "magic" or are you skilled in many different fields?
same... rin goes for western as the default just bc people tend to understand it more
[oh, jeez. is he another one?
rin shakes her head, blinking and clearing her mind. why do historic figures have to be this disappointing?]
I have an extensive mastery of various types of magic.
no subject
That is very impressive. I imagine it is a difficult subject to learn, let alone master.
no subject
[it wouldn't surprise her, at this point. maybe he can be not-useless in some ways.]
no subject
[Hope you weren't expecting anything else, Rin.]
But anything in which one has to work to obtain a level of skill, especially a level as elevated as "master", is bound to be a challenge. One worth undertaking though.
no subject
also, she could be honest and admit she's not a master master, in her world. technically. but she won't.]
So you admire my dedication. My skill and experience. That I face challenges. Well, that isn't bad.
[rin, what are you talking about?]
Surely you must have skills, or... some redeeming features... of your own.
no subject
They are all positive things to admire. One who shows hard work and dedication will persevere better than one who is blessed with natural talent.
[And one who combines both is unstoppable.]
Of course I have skills! [He sounds a little put out she'd assume he doesn't, just because he doesn't use magic.] I am a fighter, and train hard to master my weapons. I am no stranger to dedication and working hard.
no subject
anyway, seeing she's offended him, rin waves her hand and offers another charming smile.]
Mm, you must be very impressive. The man known as Yukimura Sanada is quite a legend in my time. You'll have to tell me all about your weapons, and how expertly you command them.
no subject
Like weaponry.]
I cannot just my own mastery of my weapons - [There's still so much he has to learn, after all.] - but I am proud of what I can achieve with them so far. Perhaps it is something I could test against your magic abilities someday, Lady Tohsaka.
no subject
Hmm... Perhaps. I always did need a new sparring partner. No one wants to practice.
no subject
... [ um. does he bring this up? ]
Are you... feeling ill? You look rather red.
[ But he's fairly well distracted when she talks about sparring partners! In a good way! ]
I would be happy to! I can foresee I will not be fighting quite as often here, and would hate for my skills to go to rot.
[ I mean. There's no question he will fight Masamune whenever he can, but it would help is own skills if he can learn new techniques to surprise his rival with! ]
no subject
I'm glad you don't underestimate me just because I'm a woman.
[that sounds like a personal problem with masamune, about the constant fighting.]
no subject
... admittedly he doesn't run into an abundance of female fighters, but the ones he has met, or does know of are formidable and skilled!]
You would be fighting me with a technique I have no knowledge of. Underestimating you would be a dangerous and foolish thing to do. [if she were spear fighting him, he might assume he would win. but more likely because he has faith in his own skills, rather because she is female.] Gender would not factor into that.
no subject
Well, I can't deny that my magic would be pretty wicked against someone from off-world. I won't hold back, either. I'll warn you in advance, I'm very much a threat.
[in more ways than one, perhaps.
oh... she's forgetting something, though.]
... We shouldn't fight until the mission is over. I refuse to fight you until we've finished what we came for.
no subject
[... that seems fair. Frustrating, as he really wants to pit his own skills against this woman's magical capabilities as soon as he can. The sooner he learns how they work, the sooner he will be able to learn new fighting styles to combat them and other similar magical attacks in the future. What a skill set that would be!]
I understand, but once we are finished here I will definitely seek you out for a battle.
no subject
[rin clarifies, in much more professional language.]
Consider fighting against me your prize for performing admirably in your first mission, recruit Sanada-san.
no subject
I will be sure to learn all I can from our encounter. Although I will give you fair warning, Lady Tohsaka: I am no pushover when it comes to battling, and will not be so when faced with techniques I have never seen before either.
[Plus he has a tendency to burst into flame, which he doesn't actually class as magic because Sengoku Basara universe.
Surprise?]
no subject
Oh, don't worry. I'm no pushover, either. I'm sure you'll forget, especially when you see me up close and in person and get reminded I'm a woman, but I'll knock some sense into you.
no subject
... Why would I forget you are a powerful fighter when I see you are female? [He's seen the sort of stuff Oichi could do with her powers and she was definitely a lady. Not to mention her gun-toting sister-in-law.]
no subject
[what she really means is that she's small, and petite—and most combatants would still think she's weak at first glance, even they promised they wouldn't.]
Just hush until we meet again.
no subject
I... okay? I will await the day we are able to train against one another.
