Have any of you seen Ace? My brother. He's always flying ahead of me when we go on adventures together, and he did it again this time around. So I think he got lost.

[Frankly, Hanzo has no idea why Luffy is laughing so damned hard that he doesn't like one of his crew mates, but frankly if the captain is able to laugh right now that's... probably a good thing.]

[Because it's Sanji. Sanji gets along with very few people, so the fact that he already argued with the aforementioned 'love cook' is just proof that Hanzo was already going to fit into his crew perfectly.

Oh if only the ninja understood Luffy's thought processes.]

Yeah, he's one of the best fighters on my ship! Not to mention that you'll never eat a meal cooked better than what Sanji will make you.

I suppose that is the same as saying you cannot change a man's true nature.

Just 'cause you can make your own food doesn't mean you gotta'. After all--meals are best shared with lots of people. It tastes better that way.

He can imagine a little bit what Luffy might be feeling or thinking. He at least has the comfort of others who care to look after him.

Hanzo eventually approaches, looking over the young pirate before he invites himself to sit across from Luffy.]

You asked me when we first met what my treasure was.

[He's certainly not going to complain about it when he invites himself to sit, his own pose his usual cross-legged, hands on his knees. His smile is present, but it's clearly lacking its usual childish glee.

Either way, he's still happy to see his friend--especially when he mentions that. His eyes actually do light up.]

Yeah, I did!! Here I thought Hanzo forgot about that!

[The difference in Luffy's demeanor can be seen, and it is understandable with such a serious matter. But he isn't alone; that in itself is important.

And Hanzo will be part of it.

He snorts softly at his comment.]

Of the two of us, you are the one with a poor memory.

[The archer shakes his head before he reaches into his pack. Carefully, he holds out a simple feather.]

When Genji and I were boys, he found a sparrow's feather. Our family was incredibly well off; nothing material was out of our grasp, but finding such a thing was like finding gold for him.

And he shared it with me.

[When he says the words 'treasure', he never ever expects something like gold or actual riches. Treasures are more than that. They're items with meaning, or even places with feelings left there that need to be protected.

So when Hanzo brings out that single, striped feather, his expression doesn't change to anything confused or disappointment--rather, he leans right in to take a look at it.
And for someone with half a brain and no personal boundaries, he doesn't even reach to touch it.]

He gave it to you instead of keeping it?

[Feathers were pretty cool--but he can entirely understand the meaning behind that. If Hanzo was part of a rich family, something like this would be seen as trash.
But the sentiment behind it...

Finally, Luffy grins.]

It's a good treasure. You've taken good care of it.

[He remembers faintly, his little brother smiling with his slightly dirty face, calling him anija. Telling him he had to keep it.

Ah, the little sparrow.

Hanzo watches how Luffy respects the feather. He knows; he understands how important it is to the archer.

Quietly, he appreciates it.]

It was all that I had of him, for a time.

[How could he treat it any differently?]

Captain... Even if we do not find Ace, I know you will honor his memory. I think that he will appreciate that.

Then you're gonna' keep it safe forever, right? Even if you have Genji back here.

['It's all that he had?' His expression is a little blank as he tips his head to one side, blinking... and looking up.

Hanzo had mentioned killing his brother before, but Genji survived. As a cyborg. He hadn't questioned it simply because he had Franky back home, and Franky was a robot-guy too, and seemed perfectly happy with it.

A hand touches his own chin, and he quiets as the other mentions Ace.
...He didn't want that topic to come back, because he just... didn't want to believe what Coby had said.]

Ace will come back.

[Quietly.]
