[In between the end of the... timeline shenanigans (which, thankfully for everyone, she does not remember) and their departure for the next mission, Sieglinde can be found up to her eyeballs in texts and tomes, mostly unfed, unrested, and occasionally unwashed... But never mind that.]

Audentes recruits. It is I, Sieglinde Sullivan. The Green Witch. Most of you know me, but there are newcomers among us, and so I must extend introductions to you all, unfit as this format may be for the beginning of such a bond as we are forced to share.

[If you're waiting for her to discover how to make a chill network post you can keep waiting.]

I come before you today with a request. I know there are those besides myself skilled in the art of healing, magic, and science. I speak not of the manner of talents ALASTAIR itself bestows to ease our missions, but of knowledge brought from outside of this place. There are two projects I have undertaken which could potentially benefit from the input of others, and so I seek volunteers who would be willing to lend their aid to the cause.

The cases are as follows.

One involves a person whose heart was physically removed from their body via magic, and said organ was used then in order to control them. I wish to see a heart and all capabilities therein returned to them, but as you can imagine, the process carries a great risk, seeing as the magic that removed the heart initially serves also to keep their body living artificially without such a vital element.

The other involves a more scientific matter, as it is in regards to someone whose diet is severely restricted due to some biological difference of the body, particularly the digestive system. Foods they are able to tolerate have been identified, so the next step is to discover what it is about those foods that allow them to pass through the body without causing illness, and to then implement such discoveries into a pill or procedure which could render other foods edible.

For reasons I am sure you understand, I will not give the names nor any hints towards the identities of these patients, as such information is strictly need-to-know... and only those whom I judge capable to work on these projects will be considered so.

[deep breath]

But, if you believe your training or talents may be of some use in any of those situations... your cooperation would be most appreciated. I will field questions here, should you have them.

Good day.

It's not unreasonable... though you mention this was accomplished by magic. There's taking into account the compatibilities of spells, the safeguards placed on the original grisly affair, and the timing of the creation and replacement... replacing an eye was complicated and delicate, but Evan would have been able to survive without it.

This sounds like it would involve a number of steps that would have to be executed in quick succession. You'll want a healer on hand beyond any work we attempted to accomplish, given the complications that could arise from unexpected delays...

Yet it sounds fascinating. We should discuss hypotheticals, if you have more details.

video to action!

[Laedo lets Sieglinde go, perhaps to address other concerns over the network which he has not poked into yet. In the meantime, he brings up a platter. Tea, since Evan had started that bit of tradition, and a few of the snacks that he'd seen Sieglinde take to when they'd returned from Nalawi. It's been a while, but he keeps a sharp memory.

Laedo raps on the door with his boot, rather than his hands, as all are completely full. He couldn't let himself in if he tried.]

Let's talk, [he greets her, giving her time to hobble if she needs to while he attempts to find any empty surface he can place the platter and kettle on in her crowded room.]

Thank you, Witch. I'm interested in hearing more about your case of the missing heart. [He makes himself at home, setting a few extra books and scrolls to one side to clear a chair for himself. Nudging the tray forward, he waits for Sieglinde to finish her experiment. The room feels humid and the air smells strange, but he has come to learn that this is common with the girl. He'll watch her carefully until she comes around, still droning on a little.]

I should like to meet whoever removed the heart of one of our number, if only to understand what, exactly, they did to keep our friend alive. And to control them! A muscle used to pump blood forcefully through the body, and a fetish to remove one's will all at once? What stranger worlds are out there?

[Laedo passes a smaller plate he'd been balancing on the tray over, laden with food, enough to keep Sieglinde's mouth full for a minute or two if she were to get to scarfing. A thought crosses his mind about other significant organs that could have been used and, with equal horror, removed, but Sieglinde is but a child and such comments are not fit for any ears, let alone a girl's. So he cocks half a grin and nibbles on a wedge of cheese sliced with his alabaster dagger.

Instead he asks,]
is this subject someone that I should stand at the ready not to peer at? Should I prepare myself to be surprised? I should imagine they are terribly embarrassed, but I'm not the sort to gossip about matters of the heart one way or another.

Truly? I wouldn't think one who was missing their heart would be entirely willing to parade that one their sleeve, [Laedo replies. Since she's eating, he pulls something over for himself to pass the time, the better that Sieglinde doesn't have to spray crumbs. Oh child.]

How many others have volunteered to take a try with this task?

[Laedo's brows lift as she lines up the offers.]

Either this will all go off without a hitch, or this poor soul is doomed. Have you ever heard of a term... something like 'too many preachers in the choir?' Things can get muddled when there are too many points of view at work, sometimes conflicting.

...You might do well to consider allowing somebody to take the lead, to put each person with their strengths. Heart surgery is no easy task, and the added layers of complexity here... [He crumbles the remains of his bun in his hand by way of demonstration, sprinkling them into an open palm and depositing the waste back on the plate, for now.]

[Laedo casts her a grin and stifles a laugh, a little surprised.]

How am I to know that this isn't a hypothetical to get another volume written in your little library here, of all the strange and wonderful things that members of our team are capable of?

[It's a dig, but a gentle one. She's only a girl, after all.]
asscan: (Human - Oh really?)

[personal profile] asscan 2016-10-10 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I shall scan the library for oddly bound books that reek of this, [he waves his hand about the room, and towards one of the decanters that appears to be just beginning to froth over again from some fluid dripping merrily down a coiled tube. Goddess knew what and where she was in her steps with all of these things, for he was not an alchemist by trade. His kind had access to the kinds of rarified spirits that humans could strive their whole life to obtain, after all.]

Should I leave you to your work? Feed yourself, and rest, and summon me when I am needed. I do not otherwise want to interfere in your work.
