[The feed flickers on rather suddenly, tracing over a burned down campfire with a few footsteps spread here and there. Not all of them are worth tracking, though, some are from the party members that had stumbled on the campfire in the first place. There's some hushed discussion just behind, though nothing really clear enough to understand. Don't worry, though, Peter is more than happy to address the rest of the team.

The camera swings to him, instead of the remnants of a fire. He waves — and then he's down to business.]

Yo. [Just kidding, apparently he had to greet everyone first. For once he does not announce both of his names, instead diving right into their discovery.] So, we were poking around the Flowerlands, and in here past a few ogres, maybe three, wasn't counting, we found... something, that's for sure.

There's this fire, though it seems like it's been dead awhile. We also found a note...

[He pauses to pick it up, and despite having no clue how to read it, the handy magitek translator fills it in for him.]

Mentions a, Tsukiko? Kaori? ... and that the group camping here regrets not "convincing any of the Flowerlands Guard to their side" before they moved on to another checkpoint, where they want to meet the other two.

[There's a bit more to the note, he's paraphrasing a bit, but feel free to ask him to read it exactly if you'd like to know.]

It seems they feared the women of the Flowerlands were suspicious of their activities in this area... but. There was also this. Do excuse me, Peter-

[The young girl sitting next to your broadcaster interjects, leaning into frame and holding up a ring pinched between two fingers. A signet ring, with marine-themed markings of the Sea Clan.]

Of course, we cannot say this is proof, per se, but. Considering the news brought to us about those who carried out the ambush...

[Right. It does look, at the very least, a little fishy. haha. get it.... sorry. Peter nods, and glances Sieglinde's way.]

Yeah. Thanks, Sieg. [Is it too soon for nicknames in their budding friendship? whoops...] That's it for now.

ooc: peter is blue and Sieglinde is green! this search happened after the ambush and the fire is of the group that was responsible for the attacks at the festival, per mods. scott, anthy, or clark could interject on this post as well since the search happened together! go wild!

[This message shows up about an hour after their arrival in the Mothership. Keith has had it made clear to him that if he doesn't handle this appropriately, then some of the people who have volunteered will take care of it themselves. If there's any better reason to step up (to be the leader his team back home believes he can be), this is it. It's text because they can't risk being overheard.]

Hey. Some of you don't know what the taraxa are, or what that has to do with our mission. I thought I'd begin there, and then make it clear what we're doing here with that.

A year ago, we had a mission on Perdition's Rest. That's when our team first learned about Zymandis and their goals. They utilize taraxa agents. These agents are slugs that take over someone's mind against their will. The person loses themselves, but ALASTAIR has developed a means to get most of them back. The problem is that they're a part of a hive mind led by the Mother. They can communicate with each other so long as she's active.

That should make our goal here clear.

1. We need to identify the location of the Mother and take her out. This is a necessary casualty to save as many of the hosts' lives as we can.

2. We need to identify taraxa agents. Kal and Rhys both have means to scan for taraxa-affected brains. Work with them if you need someone confirmed. Once they're confirmed and the Mother is down, we put them to sleep until we can rift them back to Oska. We'll need to find a safe place to gather the bodies.

3. Once the Mother is identified, we take her out, and then we head for the rest of the taraxa agents.

We need to work quickly.

And I KNOW some of you will think we're better off killing the hosts than risking Oska, but that's stupid. They never asked for this! Plus, we put down a Zymandis force before. We'll do it again. So don't even try it. I already remember all that from last year. Trust me. I've heard it all before.

So, let's do this the right way this time.

[It wouldn't be Keith without the little bit of abrasiveness at the end.]

Since we're going to be leaving again soon, I have a REALLY important question for everyone. It came up recently in a couple of conversations I was having, and I think knowing everyone's answers will help us become stronger as a team! This is a safe place, so say whatever you think! There is no wrong answer. 38)

So my very important question is: what are your thoughts on puns?

Hi!!

[ Surprisingly cheery greeting, but why not, right? He's been eager to make this post for a while, but now that he has the time... ]

So there's lots of folks here who have been here for a while. That's cool and all. Power to you, folks! Had a question. How do you know when it's a birthday? You see, I have a friend! And I think his birthday's coming up soon. A lot of people here are friends with him, so I was thinking of doing something nice.

[ Not that he has much to do with, he's been running around like a headless chicken for a while now. ]

Maybe like a little get together? Cake? Can we get cake that's not made of lizard flesh here? I'd like that. I can't bake... or we could just get hamburgers... Iggy will be so mad but it's Noct's birthday, man [ That last bit is removed. ]

How do you guys do it? What's the best spot to have a little party 'round here? Let me know? Please?! I only have three days!!

[Something like this-- it's really not his style. He's more accustomed to keeping his thoughts to himself, to keeping his own council. But bit by incremental bit, things have been changing in him, a slow and gradual unfurling towards greater acceptance of their situation, towards being a part of this team. He's accepted that he'll never see his world again - something that, rightly or wrongly, he believes down to the core of himself - had believed that, despite the hollow rawness it leaves him with, he's made an uneasy kind of peace with this 'knowledge'.

Only, the recent transfers have led to a renewal of his tendency to withdraw, and he's kept to himself since learning that so many of those he'd finally come to consider something akin to friends have now departed for other teams. It stirs up all the old feelings in him, a misplaced sense of betrayal-- more than anything, his own betrayal of himself for allowing these attachments to form. Everyone leaves, in the end-- it's something he should have known.

Still, it means something, perhaps, that he eventually brings his concerns here, rather than allowing them to eat away at him indefinitely. Even if he ends up doing it in a roundabout manner.]

I have some questions, if you will.

Why forge connections with others when they're only going to end up severed? What could you possibly stand to gain from it? Isn't it preferable, ultimately, to keep oneself separate from all that and thereby avoid the messy business of emotional baggage?

Such things surely only weigh one down. Create unnecessary complications. Weaken you.

so, its my birthday next wednesday

& dont get me wrong? not a big deal, i guess, its just a day, i forgot it even happened last year, but

thats the whole thing. ive gone from 19 to 21 here, that's longer than i ever imagined staying, which has left me thinking about how long ive been here

what was your favorite mission? what do you think youve learned, from being here? who have you met that youre going to miss when you go home? what moment sticks with you the most? or, idk, anything you wanna talk about. we always get stuck on the negative stuff,
& i get it, its easy to get stuck there

but there is more than that. & i think that its important for us to remember that.

so, i will go first, i guess. i think my favorite mission was zeta-12. definitely. the squidges are great and i still think about it there sometimes. it was nice feeling like we made a difference there and helped that species continue. if youre curious, here is beaker and scooter now.

( there's a picture attached of two full-grown squidges, apparently holding hands and puzzling over a plant native to Zeta-12. be glad it's text mode, or Peter might be getting misty about his alien baby. )

ive learned that there is no such thing as protecting someone from the truth. im going to miss my friends. i already miss some of them that have transferred. im going to miss my boyfriend, though he may or may not kill me for using that word and then i wont have to miss anybody. and... i think woodhurst is always going to stick with me the most.

so, thats me. im sure we all have our own stories. id like to hear them, if you wanna share.

[After a long morning of repairs, Jin's feeling chatty: he's taken shelter under the spontaneously sprouting tree in the Oska gardens and sitting with his legs folded. With an eyebrow raised quizzically, he peers into the magitek's "camera".]

So. How many ALASTAIR agents does it take to steal a diamond?

[you're not funny jin.]

Seriously. Seeing as we've all rested up and done our homework-- assuming that you've all gone through the dossier already [with all the intonation of the high school teacher who is definitely expecting you to stay on top of the readings, or so help him]-- we've got some work to do. We've only got a couple weeks to meet up with our analyst on Leramzen, get in, and get out with the diamond. I don't doubt we can manage, but I also know we're a pretty eclectic bunch.

That's a nice way of saying 'crazy mismatched', by the way.

I'm curious, though. How many people have experience with-- let's call 'em requisitions? A mission like this is familiar enough that I'm almost getting nostalgic here, and I feel like some of us might be in the same boat. [He huffs, in what might be the beginnings of a sardonic-sounding laugh.]

It might help us get our plans in order, but if you're sworn to secrecy or don't feel like fessing up for whatever reason... [he shrugs a bare shoulder, head tilting a little,] I get it. It's not the lightest of topics for everyone.

I know there's still a lot of work we need to do to repair Oska, but we need to take breaks too, right?

I have an Xbox so I thought maybe it might be fun to have a games night. I only have 2 games and CoD is probably the wrong tone after we had a big fight already, but I have Quiplash which is way lighter.

Basically it generates a question or part statement and you have to answer it or fill in the blanks with the funniest answer. Kind of like Cards Against Humanity, but you write your own answers and everybody votes instead of taking it in turns. You can just watch if you don't feel like playing so it's a really good group game.

Would anyone be interested in like a night where we did that?

[For once, Keith is actually alerting people of something from his own magitek! Surprise, surprise. Well, he talks to people enough, but this is a specific thing all in all.

Anyway, here he goes:]

Hey.

I asked Lloyd if there was any way we can get armor. If you go to Team Kittypaw, they can make an adjustment to your uniform to make it into light armor. It won't save you from explosions, but it should help on the fly.

If you want something bigger, like what I have, you'll have to have the people in the forge make it. I don't know how that works. So that's up to you to figure out.

Right. That's all.

[OOC: essentially, there is a new option under the AC bank that characters have to ask for IC that will adjust their uniform into a kevlar-like light armor (albeit magically). It costs 75 coins. I wanted this announcement here before AC and the AC bank closed, so here it is!]

[so here's a video of kaz. his st. bernard puppy, barend, is on his lap. look at barend!! isn't he cute? isn't he the cutest puppy you've ever seen? he is so cute, in fact, that kaz brekker, bastard of the barrel is petting him. like, for real, kaz is touching something with a pulse. it's a miracle.

and barend is just so cute right? focus on that for a moment. before you listen to what he has to say. itll put you in the right mindset. remember: chill, cute puppy. that's absolutely the point of this video.

totally.

100%]

Here's the thing -- [or, maybe, kaz is going to start lecturing because he's put on his "i'm a lieutenant of a gang" voice. it's the same tone of voice he used when he beat up the entirety of the dregs, but he doesn't know that happened yet. one day.] -- when you all wanted to act like killing was the most unreasonable thing a person could possibly do, there was at least a sense that you had the moral high-ground. "Think of Perdition's Rest! We saved people."

[kaz laughs, a little (a lot) coldly.]

Most of you didn't even want think of what kinds of existences you were saving - both there and back in Woodhurst. You'd rather force a man to live through grueling circumstances and inflict emotional pain than have to live with the idea that your precious hands had been soiled with blood. And anyone who suggested otherwise was immediately jumped on because, Saints forbid anyone suggest what you were doing was wrong. What's the point of moral high-ground if people don't recognize your superior position for what it is?

And it has to be self-perpetuating. So in the wake of this announcement, you're all going to find ways to tell yourselves how you did the right thing, how Oska wasn't your fault, how every life spared is the right thing to do under every circumstance. But a lie, even a nice one, is still a lie.

[he takes a deep breath and shifts, enough so that barend jumps off and scampers away to go find something else to do than sit with his scary teen criminal.]

That's not even really the worst part. The lack of cohesion in this team means that mistakes like these are going to keep happening. [he gives extra emphasis the last two words, trying to drive them home] The kind of work we're doing right now is sloppy at best, and we're lucky it was Oska that got hit and not one of these precious planets you've been trying to save along the way. This mistake could have been a lot more deadly, and the next one almost assuredly will.

I know your responses are going to be a mixture of accusing me of wanting power for myself and being heartless for wanting to kill. Let's all just acknowledge it now, together: if heartless and practical are one in the same, then fine. And power? I honestly don't care enough about this team to want it. I also don't care what your final decisions are - only that we should make some attempt to make them as a group instead of this haphazard decision making we've been doing thus far.

[he pauses, shrugs]

Or we can keep making more mistakes -- and then the decisions will be made for us.

My wife has pointed out we seem to be shorter these days on mechanics and engineers. I can also build new designs, but those might take time depending on the complexity.

While on the subject, I doubt I'm the only one who's fought droid armies before. It'd be good to compare tactics; the invaders might be similar to known designs.

Being newly-come to this group, I know few of you, and few of you know me. I would know the skills and knowledge of those I will fight alongside. Or die alongside, if this enemy is truly so formidable. [The half-smile that follows indicates he doesn't quite believe that's a possibility.]

Myself, I am Odinson, of Asgardia, God of Thunder. [There's the slightest hesitation there, for anyone who'll notice such a thing. hello my little sibs!! i'm afraid i have some bad news o(╥﹏╥)o

as u know our dearest oska is typically invisible to the bad guys!! this usually works out super well and in fact it still does but ... BUT (∩︵∩)

OK so

remember those slug people you brought back from your last mission?? the people with slugs in their heads i guess that is more accurate and sensitive. we managed to save a lot of them (▰˘◡˘▰) and that's good!! but then, before we finished, some of them got out!! and that's bad. they just slipped right out of our hands, like slippery fish

or ... slimy slugs ◔_◔

so they got free before their heads got fixed and THEN THEY WENT ON A RAMPAGE ヾ(゚д゚)ノ

long story short: cloaking devices disabled from the inside!! reinforcements called!! chaos!! madness!! lots of fighting for like,, the past week

(seriously it's been sooo bad lmao)

and, well, we need help! initially we shut it all down so that these nasty zymandis slugs couldn't call for more fucking backup AND so we could give the other teams a proper warning (like this one, lol) before we let you in again

so get your knives out or your spells or your swords or whatever cool thing you have in your armory bc it's time to kick some ass ᕙ(⇀‸↼)ᕗ

(mostly robot ass)

(but still)

we'll call you in soon, so finish up with all those cute kitties and get ready to roll out!!

Now that everyone's had some time to relax, I'd say it's as good a time as any to get to know each other a bit better. We're all supposed to be a team and yet it's not particularly difficult to simply avoid contact with each other. While I am certain that does have its benefits, I imagine at least knowing who your teammates are, is as equally beneficial.

As such, Peter and I have decided to host a little... party of sorts. There will be team building activities if that's your thing, or simply come learn everyone's names if you're so inclined. Though I'm certain no one will judge you if you merely choose to show up for the food.

[People are probably pretty tired of seeing Parker's face at this point, but sucks for them, because here it is again.]

Our kitty-hosts gave us the go ahead, so, we might as well use our downtime for something productive. ( Peter is clearly on top of something high when he turns the magitek on, magitek that isn't his but anyone who knows him will recognize him, whether his name is paired with the message or not. he hesitates before he starts, but he's hesitated about a week now. he's sort of out of hesitation time. )

I am guessing most of you remember me, but if you don't, my name is Peter. I just... I wanted to apologize. I get that doesn't mean much, considering how many people I hurt and I should have seen it sooner and prevented it in the first place. ( he shrugs, looking down and his shoulders in a weary slant. ) I'm still sorry. If you got caught up in it, or... you know someone that was. Sorry won't make up for it, but I... I'll do whatever it takes to make sure it never happens again.

( it means more honesty than he's ever had on a large scale, and that's the terrifying part of all this. he doesn't see an option in it anymore. ) I'm sorry I didn't talk about... what I can do. It's a long story. ( a long story with dead girlfriends, so no, he doesn't wanna super get into that part. ) I should have said something before it got so bad. It's too late to go back, but maybe I can say something now. If you want to know, I guess I'll try and answer.

( he looks uncomfortable, but hey. it's at least a start. last but not least, though, he sighs and rubs a spot behind his ear. ) If you don't want anything to do with me, after... ( after he went feral and tried to eat people, is the part he's not saying, ) I get it. I'll try and respect it, if I know, too.

( and, last but not least... ) I think we should consider the endgame of the people that were effected by Bristol. There's a lot to deal with after you get the cure, especially those in late stages of infected. ( speaking from experience... cough....... ) If we can get donations together, provide any kind of support for the people that got sick or ... lost someone. If we can I think we should.

( Peter definitely feels like he's talked enough (for prob the second time in his entire life, and coincidentally the first time was just a few days ago, w e i r d), so with that he's done. at least for now. he probably has a mystic samurai coach to keep an eye on, anyway. she might claim to be petersitting but if anyone is at risk of falling off the building, it's not Peter.

This is Sieglinde Sullivan, the Green Witch.

I shall not waste my time or yours with much pleasantries. The situation is dire, as you know.

Several of our number have been working tirelessly to develop a vaccine to this virus, and hopefully a cure.

Tests of the vaccine are proceeding smoothly, and we have seen positive results so far- it may be available within one or two weeks time if all continues to go well and no adverse effects present themselves.

I cannot guarantee nor estimate potential cures, and it is not my intent to elevate your hopes, but know that we have several leads we are exploring. Samples of blood, particularly from those of the non-humans within our ranks who are or may be immune to the virus, are much needed at this time if you have not already been solicited.

To protect against the possibility of contamination, four of us have set up in separate locations.

Urahara Kisuke, in the hospital laboratories. Peter Parker, in the university laboratories. Sonia Nevermind, at her apartment residence, 20B of Woodhurst Court. I myself have relocated from the hospital to a residential office, at 45 Pinehurst Drive.

Samples or supplies are welcome there. The others may speak for themselves, but in my case, I will not tolerate any distractions or intrusions, so please do not abuse the knowledge of that address.

( he may or may not have some dark circles under his eyes when he flicks on his communicator, but otherwise Peter doesn't look any more worse for the wear. he's always tired, isn't he? this isn't something new.

he's more than tired, though, he's on a mission. this mission hits a little too close to home, especially thanks to their last. they're surrounded by more people that can't help themselves, and he doesn't want it to go down the way it did last time. in Perdition's Rest he didn't say anything, but this time? Peter isn't incapable of taking a stance without his mask on, after all, and if he's willing, it generally means he's all the more emotionally invested. there's too much of a chance at helping the infected to stay quiet, or at least, he thinks so. despite the bad news printed all over the information Sonia had shared with him.
)

I know things are bad. I have eyes, we all know stuff is getting bad. I just want to make sure we're not losing sight of something that we shouldn't ever lose sight of. ( he rubs at an eye, as if he can rub the weariness away. so far, no luck, but he does keep trying. ) These people are dangerous, and volatile, and scary, but that's just it. They are still people. If you take unnecessary, extreme action against them? You're killing a person. A person we could save, if we all work together to find a cure.

If it comes down to living or dying, then... then that's one thing. ( though he still sounds reluctant, bless his idiot heart. ) If you can immobilize them over killing them, then maybe we could have a shot at saving them. We've got sedatives that can help you get away instead of hurting or killing. We lost so many people in Perdition's Rest, I want to believe we can do better than that here. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that.

( a sigh. he doesn't know if that lecture is going anywhere. he just feels like he has to say it. ) Has anyone found a place we could keep infected in isolation? Get them off the streets and keep them from hurting themselves or others, and have them available to keep working on the cure. ( that, and while he's at it... ) If you're willing, I need some samples of infected and non-infected blood. I'm trying to put together a test of some sort, I just don't have enough samples yet. It's a stretch, I know, but I think I can do it. ( he does sound fairly confident, for what that is worth... though who knows how capable a teenage boy is, right??? trust his confidence with caution. ) If I can make a test, we can find those carrying the virus, even if they're not symptomatic yet. Any attempts at a cure will work better if we can administer it sooner. Let me know if you're willing.

( he doesn't offer much of a goodbye, simply signing off. )
