It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

If anyone needs instruction in hand-to-hand combat, I can help with that.

I'm a decent pilot too, if there's ever any call for one.

A pilot...? What exactly does that mean?

[ sorry Shiro, in the world of One Piece, where cyborgs, lasers, sky islands and giant sea monsters are completely normal... there are no planes, and thus no pilots. ]
racking: (58.)

[personal profile] racking 2016-10-19 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It means I know how to fly.

[ oh no, that's a poor choice in words. ]

I can handle space crafts, among other things.

[personal profile] weatherscience 2016-10-19 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah!

Like a flying ship? Or a large bird...?

[ she's trying to imagine how this space craft would look like, and coming up with varied results. ]

Right now it's actually a large lion. But before that they didn't look like animals. That's new.

Did you have anything like that where you came from?
weatherscience: (☁ explaining on demand)

[personal profile] weatherscience 2016-11-06 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
A lion? Ehhh, that sounds strange! But also kind of cute! Our ship looks a little like a lion, too!

Not ships that fly, no... just ships that sail.

What do you pilot, exactly? I'm not sure what kind of aircraft we're going to wind up with here, but that could definitely be helpful if we run into something that needs flying.
racking: (36.)

[personal profile] racking 2016-10-19 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Spacecrafts. I could probably figure out anything else quickly, if it came to that.

I know it won't be useful here, but there's going to be more missions in the future. One of them might require it.

I dunno, they have robot horses. Maybe we'll run into a rocket-powered stagecoach.

[He's only half kidding.]

Or someone will strap rockets onto something they shouldn't.

[ looks at pidge........ ]

It's not all that far-fetched.

[he'd pay money to watch that tbqh] Human ingenuity: the stuff of wonders, right?

Maybe a rocket horse'll scare a Deemer or two out of wherever they're hiding. That'd be convenient.
racking: (20.)

[personal profile] racking 2016-10-31 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience, yes. And that's not always a bad thing.

Table that idea. We might need to resort to that if things get really bad. But I'm hoping we resolve this mission before we have to resort to potentially unstable rocket horses.

[personal profile] pummelling 2016-10-31 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Can't argue with either of those. Especially since it's been long enough that we definitely should've seen traces of them by now.

[It's not exactly productive that they're all getting into each others' business... and almost dying... instead of deeply looking into anything going on here.]

Back to piloting, though: I know a little bit myself, but I'm a little out of practice. [aka he's literally only helped fly.... one plane.] Might be nice to have someone show me the ropes.

I can handle both. My last official mission was piloting an exploratory vessel.

You?

Sparring is more relevant now anyway. I'm not sure we'll ever need pilots.

[Keith mental theater: Shiro thinks I can teach? Shiro thinks I can teach?]

I'd like if they could have some pilots. Even carting people around from one destination to another would be better than not doing it at all. I went long enough without having the chance, and now I'm afraid of not really getting to do it again.
racking: (37.)

[personal profile] racking 2016-10-31 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
You'll get to do it again.

[ One way or another. ]

But I understand. We can hope they need pilots in the future, but after we finish this mission we could see if there's a simulation available in the Castle.

They might have one in storage because there hasn't been a need for it. If they can make weird dancing games for our magitek, they've got to have something like that, right?
