It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

I don't think that concern should ever entirely go away. It's what keeps us careful and mindful, and strength should be treated responsibly. In that respect I don't think you're wrong, but confidence and control are good to have at the same time.

[Shizuo is responsible and he has good instincts in worrying about other people, but Haise hopes that concern doesn't have to be fear. The difference there might be small, but it's important]

What people can do in our group is pretty amazing... It might be the case that we'll always be surprised. I know I didn't expect anybody to have that kind of strength either. [Unless they're a ghoul, or artificially enhanced, but it seems to just be a natural thing for a very human Shizuo] I believe with enough training, you can control your anger, and once that happens you can feel more confident about what you can and will do.

Huh...yeah, when you put it that way that does make sense. Even if it's easier said than done, hah--the confidence and control thing. But that's why you're here, right?

[More a rhetorical question to himself, really, but right...at least he really isn't alone in this now. If Haise really can withstand the amount of strength he's got--

It's been fear for such a long time that it's a well-worn and familiar thing, something Shizuo barely registers as odd or unfitting anymore. But still...it'd be nice. If there could be a little less of it.]

Well, controlling it's...yeah, that's going to be the main thing. No offense to you or anything, but I'm not sure how far we'd be able to get with that. I've been trying for a long time but I haven't figured out how to get rid of it yet. [Years and years...yes, he can't say he's getting his hopes particularly high on that front. But all the same...] Guess it's worth a shot, though. "Might as well try" and all that, right? Maybe between the both of us we can figure out something...

Can't say I've ever really had anyone to figure it out with in this sort of way before.

[It might not really have been a question, but Haise is inclined to answer to it nevertheless. Sometimes, hearing something one already knows has its value.

And if Shizuo has lived with those fears since he was young, as that story with lifting a car when he was a kid suggests to him, all the more reason to state it]

Maybe having a hand will make a difference. No matter what the outcome though, I consider it time well-invested, and I'm happy to do whatever I can. Sometimes things that we find impossible on our own can be achieved when there's teamwork.

I mean, look at what we're all doing here.

Guess that's pretty true. This team of people we've got here is definitely something else, huh? Kind of silly talking about impossible stuff with that in mind, too...a few months ago I'd have figured this whole situation's impossible too.

[Tripping into another world entirely, getting tasked to save timelines of all things...science fiction stuff. His brother could main in a movie like this. But...here they are.

So if this isn't impossible, what else isn't? --He really shouldn't think about it that way. But the thought sticks a bit, despite himself.]

Anyway...if you'd be down that's good, then. Hey, thanks for taking me up on this. No guarantees, but...I'll try not to disappoint.

It is pretty surreal, isn't it? I never would've thought any of this existed, back in Tokyo. But here we are, visiting different worlds to lend a hand.

[He wishes it was a bit more idyllic than it actually is, but it remains the case that it's a remarkable thing they're a part of. Hopefully, they can have more truly positive outcomes, like in Zeta-12]

Like I said, I'm happy to give you a hand. We're a team, after all. Being part of the same squad means we rely on each other, and we help each other. At least, that's what I'm used to.

Don't worry about disappointment; we'll figure things out.

Yeah...not sure if any of it holds a candle to Tokyo just yet, honestly. Hah, but it sure as hell isn't anything like Tokyo, and that's a fact.

Can't say I've ever been in a team like this or anything before, honestly. All grouped up in this sort of way...so it's still kind of weird. How many people are down for helping each other out. [It's every man for himself in Ikebukuro, but that's just the nature of the crowded streets and ever-changing social climate. You find a few friends you can keep track of here and there, if you're lucky, and maybe everything's loosely interlinked in that inner city sort of way, but all the same...it's nothing like this by a long shot.] It's pretty nice, though. Wouldn't mind getting used to it too.

I mean, I figure I might as well cover all the bases. Disappointment's probably pretty likely. But trying to figure things out...would be a good start, yeah. Thanks.

It seems like we may well have the time for that. I'm used to being part of a team, but I'll admit [Because only Shizuo can see what he has to say here] this is the first time I've had the freedom to sit out on missions, or argue against a course of action, without it becoming a problem.

[And that means the world to him, knowing what it was to be limited by a system that would destroy him if he stepped too far out of line]

Like I said, I'm happy to help. And even failures and setbacks give us something to learn from, so only concern yourself with doing your best. The rest we'll figure out as we go.
