Well, I gotta say, despite all of the little disasters peppering around here, it ain't all bad.

If I got my timing right, 'bout this time of year, I'd have just missed the Harrowing. Don't reckon any of you really know what it is, but it's a little year time tradition where I'm from -- and I'm all too happy to miss out on it.

[He chuckles to himself:] Shame about Snow Day, though, I suppose.

In any case. Thinkin' about it, I was a little curious if any of you were missin' out on some... festivities back home? Or did you dodge a bullet?

Since we have such a colorful bunch here, didn't figure it hurt to ask.

The Harrowing? Snow Day? What're those?

The Harrowing comes in two flavors: in most of Runeterra, my world, it's a harvest celebration. Kids put on spooky costumes based on legends, there are festivals, so on. Where I spent most of my life, the Harrowing means somthin' a bit different. The Black Mist of the Shadow Isles approaches, and those who inhabit the Shadow Isles come to slaughter those who live in Bilgewater.

Snow Day is much more cheery. More localized for folks in the North where I'm from. Gift giving and so on. Good will towards men, charitable souls. [Almost the best time of year for suckers.]

Who calls something a Harrowing? That's like calling it Black Magic Death Day, everyone knows it's gonna be bad.

Harrowing? Hm. Oh! You mean Halloween? I don't think it was too popular in Japan back home. But it was big in other countries?

[Sakura isn't too disappointed though. Japan itself has other holidays they celebrate and all instead.]

[well, guess who's a sucker. (this kid, right here.) but he's also a boy, and a pre-pubescent one at that, and so the concept of dressing up and running around sounds great to him.

Why do they have to kill everyone? Can't they just....I dunno, shake their hands or something and then leave?

Y'know, last time I witnessed the Harrowing, didn't really occur t'me to ask while they were killin' people. Maybe I'll get a shot at it sometime.

I've heard rumors and legends, of course. No tellin' if it's all true.

Don't reckon I know what Halloween is. Might be similar.

The Harrowing's pretty popular in most of Runeterra. Probably not in Shurima or Ionia, but otherwise just 'bout everyone likes an excuse to put on a costume and be ridiculous.

I think self-defense is enough in terms of a fight. What do you expect t'do against the undead? Kill 'em again?

I....don't know. There aren't really a lot of dead-but-not-really dead people back home. People usually just kinda stay dead. I thought that was how it was everywhere.

Different worlds, different rules, I'm finding. In the case of the Shadow Isles, nobody really entirely knows what their deal is. Just that once a year, for a week, they come to claim lives of those who live in Bilgewater.

I'm not real used to friendly undead, so Papyrus and Koltira have been a real treat.

Did you know that Papyrus had never gone swimming until a few months ago? That's crazy!

Sure do. Papyrus is probably one of the most friendly people I've met, skeleton or otherwise. Real good soul in that one. Koltira's a good man, too.

Well, not everyone goes swimming, arrowhead. Bones or otherwise.

Well, I'm an ex-pirate. More of a thief now than the kind of guy that traverses the seas to rob folk. Now I just do it on land most of the time.
