A quick question — does anyone among us have any background in synthesizing? I know the finer points of the science are probably a little beyond your evolutionary pay grade, and I’d usually know better than to run this by a bunch of humans and humans lookalikes, but, well… desperate times, as they say.
I’ve heard from the Qorral Mayor that their species hasn’t had much success with synthesizing argecite, but synthetic materials just so happens to be one of my specialties.
[ And sure, he’s had disastrous results before, but they were still results! He probably won’t accidentally make any vampire zombies here, it’s fine. ]
If any of you think you’d be of any use to efforts to engineer an artificial compound to replace argecite — synth-ar, you could say — feel free to speak up. The only hitch being that this backwater planet doesn’t have much in the way of laboratory equipment. The local blacksmith has been told to expect us stopping by with equipment requests, but I have to wonder if even that is enough. This is a ground-up operation if I’ve ever seen one.

I stole some of the argecite a while ago. I'm gonna guess that you already have your hands on some, but if you're gonna do this, I can give you what I have?
[Keith has no idea how to do the rest of this stuff so he's not touching it. It's something he's wanted, and he's glad that someone's looked into it. Relieved, really.]

That would be a good start. Bring it by.

[The blacksmith might be the place to go, but something tells Keith that's counterintuitive.]

If you require any assistance with anything else [ aka, anything but Science Stuff ] please let me know. I'd be more than happy to help.

really weird??
a little hesitantly, like he's expecting her to spring a catch on him: ] What do you have a background in?

Nothing to aide in the ... er, more technological side of things. I'm a soldier, primarily. [ And a princess, but again, not useful. ] If you require any grunt work to be done, however, I have plenty of experience in that.

Well, I can't say I've ever synthesized a mineral before, but I think I can be of assistance. Seems like an interesting challenge.

he needs to focus and he can't focus because not only is there a robot he's also talking shit damnit how is he supposed to stay on top of this!!! )
Biochemistry is my wheelhouse. I can help, or at least do my damnedest at trying. The lack of equipment is something I've definitely noticed, but if they're refining argecite themselves, surely they've got something we can borrow?
( he genuinely means borrow. he's a summer child. )

Trust me, if there was a way out of the hard work I'd have found it — I examined the options thoroughly with the Mayor. This is just a tragically under equipped mining colony, I doubt if they even do the refinement here.

Maybe ALASTAIR can beam us down something? It's worth a shot, right?

If you can tell me the necessary steps you need, the function of the equipment, I might be able to rig something together for you.

so much so that he listens into all the results, backreading through the dossiers casually as he does so, the wheels turning as he grasps onto something that he feels like he can have some sense of control over: science.
he opens up a response channel and sounds almost more like he's musing aloud to himself than actually responding, his voice almost annoyingly casual. ]
What kind of process were you planning, exactly? Flame fusion? Czochralski? We're not exactly in a position to stimulate flux growth, let alone hydrothermal. Pretty sure we could cook up a homemade Vernuil furnace and supercharge it to fit the bill. [ you can all but hear his shrug ] Might not be crystalline, but we're basically doing the Chopped synthetic challenge, so we'll have to work with what we have.

Hang on. Who are you? One of the humans? [ why do you actually sound like you know your stuff?? ]
