[When the cat Ratchet had talked to told him about magitek, he’d assumed it was a joke. When he was gifted with a piece of ‘jewelry’ to utilize it, he was absolutely sure he was being pranked. But here he was, using what basically looked like a cat collar as some kind of communication device, sending out transmissions to who knows where to who knows who.

It was definitely comical.]

Alright so, what’s the deal? ‘Magic’? That’s gotta be a joke right? This is just some kind of holographic technology, or some kinda, I dunno, modified radio wave, or...well I mean, I don’t really know exactly, but, one thing I do know - [He pauses, laughing, almost more at himself than anything else at the absurdity of it.]

...is that magic is not real.

Lots of things that aren't real are cool...although, uh, I'm starting to get that it's a little bit of a touchy topic around here, huh?

[That didn't make it more believable, but at least he knew what NOT to bring up in the future.]

So is everyone around here...like, what? Magicians?

[Because that's what he was getting from 'magic using crowd'.]

Kind of? I don't think most others call themselves magicians, but magic stuff and weird powers are common around here! Though, I'm gonna assume you don't have anything like that.

[He hesitates for a moment, looking unsure.]

Do you have any 'weird powers'? That's not....weird to ask, is it?

Nah. I mean, I ask it all the time. [ But his approach to such a question usually leans more toward "enthusiastic puppy" rather than "hella skeptical"; attitude makes all the difference, Ratchet! ] As for myself, I'm one-hundred percent just a normal guy. Unfortunately. But there's a few of us like that around too, at least.

[Ratchet smiles briefly, shrugging in an offhand way. Given the responses he had gotten so far, he was starting to get worried he was the only person who wasn't...well, he didn't want to jump to conclusions.]

But, uh, what's so unfortunate about being normal?

... Well—alright, it's okay most of the time. [ Dipper is pretty content with who he is. Usually. ] But you gotta admit, it'd be pretty cool to have a power or something, right? Especially when everyone else can do it, too.

Yeah, I guess if you were the only one who couldn't it would be pretty crummy.

[Which, admittedly Ratchet was starting to feel like he'd be feeling the same way soon enough.]

What kind of powers do the people around here have?

[At some point he seems to have sequewayed from 'abrasively disbelieving' into 'reasonably curious'.]
