So we are to fight. [Odinson is freshly bathed, his hair tied back in a knot. There's a new light in his eyes at the promise of this. Killing robots is a task well-suited to him. This he can do.]

Being newly-come to this group, I know few of you, and few of you know me. I would know the skills and knowledge of those I will fight alongside. Or die alongside, if this enemy is truly so formidable. [The half-smile that follows indicates he doesn't quite believe that's a possibility.]

Myself, I am Odinson, of Asgardia, God of Thunder. [There's the slightest hesitation there, for anyone who'll notice such a thing. Something unsaid.] I have fought across the nine realms of my universe, and will fight here with hammer or blade or my fists until the enemy is routed or I am slain. If any wish to spar or learn to fight in the days before we are summoned to Oska, you have only to call on me.

Likewise, any tacticians or those with knowledge of Oska or the enemy, share your knowledge. We ought have some plan before we are shipped back. [Is that sarcasm???]

Neither has our senior team. The last time anyone had access was years ago. Long enough that no one remembers a time when the doors were open.

[ if the time alastair provides has any validity to it, it could as easily be hundreds of thousands of years since the doors were last opened…or more. ]

I see. [It makes sense to keep the vitally important things locked away from your enemies.

But there's no guarantee of what's in there. No guarantee that ALASTAIR are necessarily the best people to be dealing with this timeline issue.]

You sound as though you have been with this team a long time.

If you count a year as a long time. [ his wife's presence makes for a more matter-of-fact, less hard answer than he might otherwise have given. with padmé beside, no amount of time is a long time. ]

Aye, it is all relative. [Hundreds of years could pass in the blink of an eye, and months could drag like millenia.]

You may not wish to answer, but there is a question I would ask. Do you trust that ALASTAIR's intentions are truly to help the universe?

[ a little pause follows. not because anakin needs to consider his answer; rather, he is surprised at how his answer has changed to a decisive yes. ]

I didn't at first, [ he answers honestly. ] People will say things all the time and, when the time comes, refuse to act.

But I believe they are.

They have not refused to act?

[This isn't to say that he'll believe in ALASTAIR just because others do, but it helps to understand how things have worked out in the past.]

We returned from a mission not a month ago. Stopped a madman from unleashing a pandemic, and found a cure.

Are there any organisations whose motives are so pure? [he shrugs, shaking his head]

Ah, I did not use to be so cynical.

It's not the organization that is pure. It's the people that make it so. You don't have to trust ALASTAIR; you just have to trust in others.

[ anakin is no shounen hero. there is no motivational attempt behind his words. one either trusts or one doesn't. but there is no tolerance to be had for those who refuse to act. ]
