I guess it must sound more profound in my head when I'm worrying about dying alone near a dock, doing something new. Sorry.

I have one, but it's not very strong.

Plus, I can't keep it near the water. One bad bump and I'll lose it for good. Plus, I don't know if it'll scare off the fish.

I didn't realize fish can get scared. Though, maybe if you had something to hang it up from, above the water. In London, they have lanterns above the fishing docks as they come into port with their goods. It's strange that the Chantes don't seem to improvise much, considering how long it's been without light.

I think the biggest problem would be finding your way up when you fall down. Even the light may not be enough to help.

You'll be fine. The body is naturally buoyant, so you'll float to the top.

Actually, because it's so dark, that will make the light at the surface even clearer. As long as you don't panic, you should be able to make it back to the top.
