[Steven broadcasts a video from the inn room where he is. He looks like he's in good spirits and has several items laid out on the table.]

Hey everyone! It's me, Steven Quartz Universe. I got some neat things from ALISTAIR lately! I got my phone, my Cheeseburger Backpack... [He indicates a smartphone and... well, a Cheeseburger Backpack.]

Aaand we got a special surpise, too! {He takes out a container of food.] If you guessed that it's a sad meal, you're way wrong. Itttt's a happy meal! And I haven't done an unboxing video since I left home, so I think it's time I did one here for all of you here in Chantes! Okay, let's see what we got.

[He reaches into the bag and pulls out some french fries.]

First, we got some french fries. Nice, nice - they're a cornerstone of any happy meal! It just wouldn't be the same without them. [He nibbles on one.] And it's good! Well, it's kind of greasy, but in the tasty way! And it has just the right amount of salt. This is what you want in french fries, people!

[He reaches back in and pulls out a cheeseburger.]

A cheeseburger! Nice. This is like the main event of a happy meal. It's cheesy, it's a burger. Where could you go wrong? It was a nice touch it make it a cheeseburger, too, so it matches my backpack! To think it's been so long since I've had one... I don't think that it has long in this world! [He giggles as he sets it down.] That's the main event of the happy meal. Except there's something even main-er! Let's see if I got one...

[He reaches in and pulls out a toy wrapped up in plastic wrap.]

Yesss!! It comes with a toy! And even better, it's of Dogcopter! That's so great! [He hugs the toy close to him and then settles down.]

Well, that does it for my first unboxing video as part of ALISTAIR. This happy meal gets... a 4 out of 5 stars, I think! Thanks for watching, and... let's keep doing our best for this mission, alright? [He gives a cheesy smile and a thumbs up before he cuts out the video.]

oh. his eyes widen slightly before his gaze drops away. ]

Oh--sorry. I didn't... [ he exhales. 'was'. his chuckle is a little guilty. ] Funny. [ he shakes his head. ] I didn't mean to bring something like that up.

[He looks softly at the video feed. Steven does look very emotional, but not anywhere near devastated. Maybe it helps that he's still getting to know the person she was. Or maybe it helps that he's not near the Crystal Gems when mentioning her, which made her absence feel like a presence heavy enough to be like a gem of its own.]

H-hey... It's okay. I never knew her, but... I'm happy just getting to tell other people about her. [His hand hovers idly over his belly.]

And she's always with me, too! ["...That's me, loving you and loving being you..."] So, please don't feel bad.

[darkbarrage]

[ he shakes his head with a guilty smile.. ]

Man, you're way too nice. [ but he peers at steven curiously. ] It really makes you happy telling people about her?

[jamminshield]

[He nods.]

Yep! She was a great person. A hero! She saved the entire Earth, and she and my dad loved each other, and... it's just so great to always learn more things about her! [Well, time will tell if that will always be the case.]

[darkbarrage]

Sounds like a superhero. Mind telling me? If you're not already out of material.

[ his sigh is a little sad, even if his smile stays on his face. ]

Kinda nice to hear about parents that actually care.

Sorry for the delay!

[He pauses because of that last bit, and then he goes on softly.]

Well... You couldn't find better material than that anywhere! Everything I hear about my mom says that she was so kind and caring and courageous. She cared for every living thing, no matter how icky, and she wanted to help heal all the gems that had gotten turned into monsters.

...But, she had to fight gems too. She turned on her on Homeworld to save Earth because she loved Earth and didn't want it to get ruined by Homeworld's plans. And it was long and it was difficult and I only know a few parts but they won.

That was all a long time before she met my dad. And then, when she was getting ready to give birth to me, she made a tape for me. Just for me! [His joy quickly fades, though.] Be-because... because... she knew she wouldn't be around to see me.

In it, she told me about how great life on Earth was. And how great it would be that I'd get to be a human being. And that she'd become... part of me. Even though I never knew her, it's almost like I did. Because she said that - that... every time I feel happy, that's her loving me and loving being me.

[He sniffles.]

That's... that's my mom for you.

[darkbarrage]

She sounds...

[ he exhales, and can't help the slightly bittersweet smile on his face. ]

She sounds awesome. No wonder you're okay with telling everyone about her--she sounds like she'd be a legend.

[jamminshield]

Thanks! I know, right? She really is like a legend. I hope everyone can get to know about her, and that it makes them smile. A-and I hope I can do my part in carrying on the legend.

[darkbarrage]

[ warning tone; ]

Don't get too ahead of yourself. If you take on too much, you'll stress yourself out, doesn't matter if you get handed a legend or not.

[jamminshield]

I- I get it! I know, I try to be careful. I don't care about becoming a legend. Just about... doing the things she would be doing. If- if she were still around.

[ heh. ]

I'm just talking from experience.

Thanks for telling me about her. It's... nice, to hear about other people's families.

Anyway [ he waves a hand. ] I'll leave the burger expert-in-training to his burger.

[jamminshield]

Well, I'm glad to help you out! And I can tell you even more another time! [He hasn't really covered Greg after all.

But he is interrupted by the grumbling of his stomach.]
