[That's the only sound that comes out of the feed once it switches on; gold eyes blinking owlishly at the screen for a moment as Lapis realizes that yep, it's recording. Slowly opening her mouth to speak once more, before... something off-screen catches her attention. Prompting her to nod, before she turns her eyes back to the screen to focus on texting instead.]

so i guess this is the only way everyone can understand me, so i'll stick with this.

i know we have to deal with those bug things right now, but i've never really lived with.. other people before. besides my family, anyway. so there's something i want to get out of the way, since i know not everyone likes this kinda thing.

i have a ghost with me. [At least she's straight to the point.] most people can't see him but he's there.

[A pause, before she shifts underneath her to grab some of the sheets of her new bed that she's been sitting on - throwing them behind her. Which then land and drape over the invisible figure that was floating behind her, who puts his hands on his hips in a 'are you serious' manner - his new cloak allowing others to see the movement.]

i just figured it would be easier to let people know this way, rather than explaining it whenever i ask him to do something. also no, he won't haunt anyone or anything like that.

[This is clearly the best way to introduce herself, A+ Lapis.]

[Serene is openly gaping at that sight. She has to rip her eyes awya so she can concentrate on typing, but she glancing back often.]

A ghost? They are real? How did he come into existence? I thought that ghosts are a myth. ~What world are you from where ghosts are real?

[A moment later she remembers her manners]

[Lapis is used to reactions like that, so her expression softens slightly as she reads over the text - clearly not seeming to mind the stream of questions.]

very real, at least where i'm from. when he died, i suppose. my world is called earth, but i guess it's a version where ghosts are real.

[Though then are there versions of Earth that don't have ghosts, or anything like that? It's weird to think about...]

The passage of time does not run at equal speed between here and the other universes. When I left here two years ago I arrived back at the instant I was taken originally. Now that I have returned I have discovered that only a week has passed since I last walked among my fellow Audentes.

[She's staring not at Lapis but at that sheet-covered ghost. She can feel the hairs at the back of her neck rising as she considers him]

You will be in good company here, for nine in ten people here are from some version of earth. I am from Callirhoe and the understanding of my people is that a person's sentience dissipates entirely once their animal body dies. The only tribes I know who believe that individual spirits exist are death worshippers.

i see. that's pretty strange.

[And Lapis notices where Serene's eyes are focused - with a slight motion of her hand, the floating sheet moves further back, as if trying to creep away out of view.]

that's good, though i imagine people might still be weirded out. not a lot of people believe in ghosts, or even the supernatural in my world. most tend to believe the same thing your people do.

And yet they are wrong. Perhaps the Crowmen really are right...

[She sends that message and frowns lightly, bringing her focus back to Lapis again.]

My apologies, I am not paying you any attention, am I? Are there any questions that you might have? I can show you where the kitchens are if you are in need of food.

what applies to my world may not apply to others. the only probable reason he came with me is because of the bond we have, so he's basically attached to me.

[Ghosts are commonplace, at least to Lapis, but that's not always the case. Lapis very much doubts there are other mediums such as her around, after all.]

it's okay, i know this is all pretty weird. i guess my main concern right now is what the missions we're expected to go on are like, since i don't have much combat experience. and also if this translation issue will be done soon.
