[That's the only sound that comes out of the feed once it switches on; gold eyes blinking owlishly at the screen for a moment as Lapis realizes that yep, it's recording. Slowly opening her mouth to speak once more, before... something off-screen catches her attention. Prompting her to nod, before she turns her eyes back to the screen to focus on texting instead.]

so i guess this is the only way everyone can understand me, so i'll stick with this.

i know we have to deal with those bug things right now, but i've never really lived with.. other people before. besides my family, anyway. so there's something i want to get out of the way, since i know not everyone likes this kinda thing.

i have a ghost with me. [At least she's straight to the point.] most people can't see him but he's there.

[A pause, before she shifts underneath her to grab some of the sheets of her new bed that she's been sitting on - throwing them behind her. Which then land and drape over the invisible figure that was floating behind her, who puts his hands on his hips in a 'are you serious' manner - his new cloak allowing others to see the movement.]

i just figured it would be easier to let people know this way, rather than explaining it whenever i ask him to do something. also no, he won't haunt anyone or anything like that.

[This is clearly the best way to introduce herself, A+ Lapis.]

The passage of time does not run at equal speed between here and the other universes. When I left here two years ago I arrived back at the instant I was taken originally. Now that I have returned I have discovered that only a week has passed since I last walked among my fellow Audentes.

[She's staring not at Lapis but at that sheet-covered ghost. She can feel the hairs at the back of her neck rising as she considers him]

You will be in good company here, for nine in ten people here are from some version of earth. I am from Callirhoe and the understanding of my people is that a person's sentience dissipates entirely once their animal body dies. The only tribes I know who believe that individual spirits exist are death worshippers.

it's not too personal, though it's kind of a long answer. the simplest way to describe it is that he's like a guardian.
