video/text: un: saccharine
[The video startup seems pretty normal at first, until you realise that a certain freckled ginger isn't actually paying any attention whatsoever to the camera. He's sitting on one of the saloon beds, taking inventory of... snacks. Cookies, candies, fruit--even little wrapped bars of chocolate. He's talking to himself about something about 'not having enough for such a long trip', and it's only then that he realises that his bracelet is flashing with some... sort of irritating light.
He frowns, a look on his face that's pretty offended as he moves to put a hand down over it, and the video cuts off for a second, only for the screen to flip instead, to text.
Were ALASTAIR's clever little (magic?) bracelets not programmed with a thought-to-text function, it might be alright, but of course--Gaius has pretty poor luck, so instead:]
[Someone really has no idea how these things work, being from the dark ages is utter bullshit with all this new tech.]

Just what I need in my life, weird gods-be-damned enchanted jewelry making eyes at me when I'm in the middle of something important.

Oh. Well, sure that's a great idea. But that'd require getting money.
Wonder if there's a way for me to rustle up some extra cash while I'm here.
no subject
I mean we technically do have money.. but I assume it wouldn't be enough for the long haul. [It was then, a a question mark appears in front of the magitek display for Sabo.. revealing some details on bounties and the rewards.]
Oh... how do you feel about side missions?
no subject
If we're gonna' be here for close on three? Four months? We're definitely going to have to find a way to make extra money before cases are closed. I dunno about you, But I don't feel like wallowing out in the open when needing to sleep because I ran outta coins for the inn.
[A pause.]
Side missions? Oh, yeah. They talked about that shit in the introduction they hastily gave us, huh.

[He ponders a bit, stroking his chin with two of his fingers while looking through some of these.]
Plant gathering, beating up bandits, one that's named "Rhinestone Cowboys" is on the list.. more gathering... and checking the water hole for poison....
There's plenty to go with..
no subject
[Cautious? You bet your entire ass.]
...
But if that's true, maybe going on one of those 'bounty' trips ain't such a bad idea. If I can find one that fits the bill of the sort of skills I got.
What about you?
no subject
It's fairly new technology for me. I've just gotten used to it. [He takes a second to look over it one last time before closing the window on the magitek.]
Though... I would not mind going for one that we'd be able to do yeah. I'm mostly a fighter, so definitely something like beating up bandits would be up my alley.
What skills do you have....what's your name?
no subject
Yeah, well. That's one of us. It'll take me a wee bit yet. [A sigh travels through what feels like his entire body, fingers rubbing between his eyes. This is the first time he's used it, and hilariously--it was an accident. His luck.]
A fighter, are you? Well, I can agree to that, at least. I'm a... [Criminal.] Sellsword. One of those people who takes money from people to fight for them or do jobs for them that they don't wanna' do themselves. So I'm definitely a fighter too, if you wanna' call it that.
[Fighting bandits... hah. What irony is this.]
Right. Name's Gaius. Nice to meetcha, and all that.
no subject
The name's Sabo. [Tipping his hat to the ginger-haired thief.] I guess that would sort of be like working.. though it seems to be more commission than being paid on a salary. [And possibly doing the dirty work?? Gaius, what kind of work would these people not wanna do...]
In time, it might be easier to try and get a feel for how things work... I've only been around ALAstair, what a couple of months? [He doesn't recall. A lot of events have happened so it would seem like time flew by...]
But it's pretty similar to what I'm used to, aside from how futuristic everything is. [He means Oska, not Perdition's Rest.]
no subject
Well, it sounds to me like you're suggesting that doing one of these 'bounties' for some extra cash would be better off done in a group. [He's not an idiot, this guy was all smiles and super friendly--part of him was starting to wonder if the blonde was one of those hero types.]
Not to say I'm opposed to that sort of thing. It's usually better to fight against unsavory folk when there's someone else there to watch your back, right?
I'm pretty new to it all myself. I was in Oska for what, maybe a half a day before being shipped off to this Outrealm. So I'm about as familiar with everything as you are. Gotta' start somewhere and all that jazz.
no subject
Yeah..some of us just have an easier time to adapt.. [He thinks. Though he remembers that when he started somewhere, he landed in the middle of a lake.] I am in fact proposing we work together on a bounty or two. It'd help get the job get done quicker.
But as long as you don't mind, I don't mind. [He says as he continues to give that friendly demeanor to the other. This guy really isn't half bad! Neutral, but hey, he's not against anything.] Keeping an eye out for one another is definitely something I can agree to.
no subject
Hah. Well look at that. I can't say I've ever had a bloke suggest we work together so easily before, so what the hell. Looks like we've got some work to do together in the future.
[He'd offer the guy a handshake, but... you know. Screen. This is so weird.]
You got a weapon, or am I going to have to let you borrow one of mine. [The tone is joking, but just like every other moment in this conversation, his face is a bare neutral. Seriously, it's like Gaius' face doesn't know how to make many other expressions.]
no subject
We can definitely gonna keep in contact for that. It's not like they discourage anyone from working with one another, but I also understand some people preferring to work alone [Sabo's more of a go with the flow type so he doesn't really mind either way.]
Nah. I've got a pipe. [He thumb points to the thing behind him.] And I can use fire. [He holds out a hand, combusting flame around it.]
no subject
I used to be one of those fellas who liked to 'work alone', honestly. But let's just say that a few things have happened in recent years that pretty much made me a little more on the okay side of working with others. [Being recruited into an army made 'working with others' a very suddenly necessary skill.]
A... pipe. Alright. [He squints at it. He's never seen a weapon like that before. Interesting. At least the 'fire' thing he could understand.]
Can't say I'm much of a magic user myself. So it's just a sword and my bow for me.
no subject
Though for a moment there.. I thought you were calling me names on purpose. [Considering what kind of fandangled language he's using, of course Sabo wouldn't know.... he's like ???? OKAY, sure.]
Good to note.. I'm usually a team player myself. [That's a lie, Sabo. You run off on your own more so than you work with other people in the Army.]
I guess you could say that. But I mean if you can turn this into fire too, it could count... [He puts his hand down then, his hand now disappearing into flame itself.] But swords and bows totally work for taking out your opponents... as long as you know how to use them against guns.
