It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.
If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.
In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.
Let's see how we can help each other improve.
[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

I am at the livery stables, introducing myself to the iron horses.

In that case, I'll meet you there after I collect some objects to work with. If we use something small to start, a spell ALASTAIR provided me with should allow me to repair them.

We can use sticks and stones instead, lest I damage something of value to you.

[It's not something with which he is entirely at peace, even if it's the only reality he remembers having known.
Between taking a life and sparing it, Haise believes one option is far better than the other]
That's a good point. Does your ability vary much based on the complexity of the object involved?

[ Maybe she should add a disclaimer to say she doesn't mean to judge, but that wouldn't be the entire truth. ]
I would compare my ability to a blunt hammer. In the end, what matters is the brute force.

Oh, if only she knew. As a half-ghoul he's treated as a weapon to be used and discarded should he become inconvenient. This is, however, something he will not say]
Since their diet consists primarily of human flesh, the general public views them in a certain regard.
In that case, I think it's a matter of using that force creatively.

We have elders we call the Garhla. It is said that in the old days, they can use this same ability to rebuild broken bodies, forge an arm, a beating heart, out of dirt and air.
Are there ways to contain these ghouls creatively?
no subject
Unfortunately, as ghoul predation necessarily means human deaths, the only courses of action are extermination or detainment. It's a difficult situation.
Do you suppose with time, your abilities could grow in that way? Some of my own capabilities have become more diverse with time.

And yet you seem to navigate it with a calm and sensible mind. For that, I am glad.
I don't believe I can do more than destroy. I am no Garhla, let alone a great one. I have little talent for it.

I've been fortunate to benefit from a great deal of guidance... But I also think a great many matters are easier to discuss when we're separated from them as we are here.
Would you call it little talent or no talent? Even if it's something that seems beyond your ability, it may be possible. In either case, I'm sure your power can be used to a constructive end.
no subject
You are kind to say that.
[ Which is about all she can say to that. Even the elders decided that the best use of their talent was simply to ensure no trace amount of their hazardous bodies remain after death. Who is she to believe she knows better? ]
no subject
[He's at once part of two worlds and neither, perspective close and yet outside. To that end, he doesn't presume he sees everything clearly]
It's not kindness, simply experience. I once feared my own strength was good for nothing but destruction.
But I choose to believe strengths exist to protect, if we're stubborn enough to find a way. If I can do that, surely you can too.
no subject
[ For the good will, for his belief in her when there's little reason for it. ]
Stubbornness hasn't served me well, but that is no reason to believe it won't, especially with the help of a knowledgeable friend.
no subject
[Nothing worthy of thanks, surely]
But I believe we're all stronger for having one another. That's one of the great things about being part of a squad. Let's do our best.
no subject
So yes, for you, I will do my best.
no subject
See you soon.
