It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

This sounds like a wonderful idea!

I do not think myself as skilled as others here in combat, and it is not much... but I am always open to offering my guidance and wisdom, should someone seek another to talk to. Often times, simply talking about your thoughts or doubts with someone will free your mind.
gunah: (& / that face)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-19 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
You consider wisdom to be lesser than combat skills?
iomnic: (Why does Zenyatta get to cheat?)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-19 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course not. It is wisdom that drives victory more often than strength alone.

... But I know that in a place of bandits, and other violent creatures, there are many here who would consider the value of words irrelevant.

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-19 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Then it seems I have found myself a friend after of my own heart.

What did you have to lose to gain your wisdom, friend?
iomnic: (pic#10452058)

and then i was a fool who forgot to use courier

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-19 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, a friend!! He loves friends. ]

Must I have lost something to gained another?

Might I ask your name, friend?
gunah: (& / explain)

psshh it's ok!

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-20 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
You may call me Shuyi. You are, Zenyatta?

Our hands are too full to hold wisdom otherwise.

I am. It is nice to speak to you, Shuyi.

I see. I suppose, in a way, you are correct. My answer is "hope." I have since gained it back, of course. But there was a time when I was entirely without.
gunah: (+ / proper)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-20 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
And you, Zenyatta.

Your hands have grown bigger then. Big enough to hold both hope and wisdom?
iomnic: video source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt16EmqbfUE (pic#10552037)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-20 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been told I do have rather large hands.

[A joke. But more seriously-]

Through wisdom, I can see the world clearly. Through hope, I have reason to see the world.
gunah: (& / bright)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-21 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
For good reason, in this case!

And what if what you see is nothing but pain cut short by death?
iomnic: (useless played him 4 times and thats it)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-21 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Then I am being made to see only one side of the coin.

[personal profile] gunah 2016-10-21 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You are wise, as you say.

Sometimes I, too, fail to see more than my side of the coin.
iomnic: (Zenyetta was always op (my opinion))

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-21 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You are not alone in that. Many do.

But it is also that fear of pain or death that will blind us from seeing more. Neither in the sky nor in mid-ocean, nor by entering into mountain clefts, nowhere in the world is there a place where one may escape from the results of evil deeds. It is important to acknowledge the pain and the hardship as a part of our life, so that we may move past it.

Evil deeds bring suffering, is that true?

Would it be more evil still to commit such deeds and then seek to escape, rather than submit to, the suffering that follows?
iomnic: video source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt16EmqbfUE (pic#10552037)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-10-27 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It is true.

But can one really escape that suffering? Completely?

Not long enough.

[ But she doesn't mean to sound so evasive. ]

We have no concept of days where I come from. It is hard for me to say.

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-11-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I feel that escape is not the right answer to what you seek.

Guilt is a weight tied to your soul. You cannot outrun it, through distance or time. Suffering for your guilt does not remove it, it simply cripples you further.

You must wear it away, like the ocean lapping at stones on the shore.
gunah: (-- / windows)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-11-08 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Do you believe in penance, Zenyatta? Will it do away with the guilt?
iomnic: (the scrub ult wastes are real)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-11-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
To believe in penitence is to believe in sin. I do not believe in sin.
gunah: (@ / waves)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-11-10 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
But mistakes can be fixed. Surely. Somehow. That would help with the guilt.
iomnic: (Cyber Buddha looks pretty cool)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-11-10 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If it is one that can be fixed, of course. But some cannot. Those that cannot be fixed, can be forgiven.
gunah: (& / calmness)

[personal profile] gunah 2016-11-11 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgiven by whom?
iomnic: (pic#10708151)

[personal profile] iomnic 2016-11-16 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoever has the heart to do so.

I know that likely is not everyone who you make seek forgiveness from. But hopefully, it will be enough.
