It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.
If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.
In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.
Let's see how we can help each other improve.
[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

I don't think that counts as "character building". More like "stupid". Or "reckless".
[says mr. stupid and reckless himself, but sure.]
Is that the kind of thing people are going to be expecting from your training?
no subject
for... a shinigami.]
If they insist on being reckless and stupid, then I'm going to allow it to prove a point. The training comes once they realize they aren't capable of handling what they believe they can.
It's easier if people understand their limitations by experiencing them firsthand.
no subject
But I think you're also right, about the learning your limitations by experiencing them. It makes them more real, in a way.
no subject
[such a cross he must bear.]
Precisely, Chihiro-san! It's not nearly as dramatic as White Lotus-san is making it out to be.
no subject
I mean, I say that as a ten year old who you helped with an insect back then in the forest. Lapis-san helped like that, too. I did try to get bugs to run by each other and do their... mating thing with other people helping, like Ken-san, and Keith, and Loki-k... Loki-san. Mostly I ran away, like with Giovanni-kun. Sorey-kun too, after we fell into the water when one hatched. ... Shizuo-san too... and Robin-kun...
[ she lost her point somewhere in the ramble of "basically i solved insect problems by getting people out of the danger zone and running away" ah... ]
no subject
Well, you've got me there, Chihiro-san. That must make me just as stubborn and set in my ways.
no subject
Huh. Yeah, probably. I guess it goes to show we all have things we should work on to better function as a team.
[ because while she doesn't see stubbornness as being anything inherently bad, sitting back to let teammates die is just. unacceptable. in her head. that and urahara YOU'VE NOT YET GOTTEN HER TO BELIEVE you'd do that in honest danger situations with people who are sincerely out of their depth.
there's always like. tomorrow for that? ]
no subject
Then it's a good thing Sasaki-san has given us this opportunity, then! Knowing what we can learn from one another can only help us, right?
[ur deflecting, urahara.]
no subject
sits here basking
in normalcy for a moment
until she thinks about it and it's not normal to basically be okay sacrificing a teammate for no reason ]
Yes, it is. I'm grateful to Haise-san for this opportunity. I'm also going to be rude, and I apologise for that.
Who are you learning from?
no subject
also damn chihiro.]
Pardon?
no subject
[ if she can have people tell her she's basically going to get killed if she doesn't somehow import like. street wise powers she doesn't have. (stares at jason) then she can point out that yeah. YEAH.
we all have things to learn. this is one of his. because that was nuts. ]
no subject
I expect I'll pick up a few things from the other scientists here...

I'm a highly experienced man, Chihiro-san. There's not much I need to learn.
no subject
also everyone else, please, why is a ten year old telling this guy to step up his teamwork game ]
There's always more to learn, even when you're experienced. Maybe especially because you're highly experienced and set in your ways. Not seeing a need to learn... kind of makes it apparent you definitely have more to learn.
[ part of her is cringing but part of her is like this is rude BUT THIS IS NECESSARY ]
no subject
You... make a good point, Chihiro-san.
