It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.
If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.
In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.
Let's see how we can help each other improve.
[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

so what's your student survival count so far, 30% make it, 70% die in the progress?
no subject
[physically. there's no accounting for emotional trauma.]
no subject
okay, but seriously — i'm suspecting you're some kind of ability user, like, magic, powers, something, otherwise this doesn't really make sense. so what is it? you drank water from a special well and it turned you superhuman? you've got special ninja powers? you're actually Merlin?
no subject
I'm not. It was just an interesting guess.
no subject
you could be beating up mouse trainees with enchanted brooms, what do i know
no man i just tried to list the most basic guesses for powers, and also you so didn't respond to anything there, don't think i didn't notice that

I don't want to sound full of myself. It's not as if we're not surrounded by incredibly powerful people. I assure you I'm nothing special.
no subject
but okay dude, sure. most of the people WITH some kind of powers aren't shy about telling what they have, i mean, look at all the other responses... i'm just saying, this whole modesty thing is not really sitting well with me.

counterpoint: we're discussing our abilities on an open network monitored and run by ALASTAIR, and this may be extremely paranoid of me, but for all their graciousness, I don't feel comfortable exposing all my trump cards when I don't know much about theirs.
Consider it a precaution just in case we ever stop being useful to them.
no subject
i mean, if i had any trump cards to keep hidden i would, i don't trust them as far as i can throw them and that's not very far at all

I don't see the point in boasting or giving the specifics of what we can do unless it directly impacts others- like, for example, if you might become dangerous. [sorry chihiro, but it's true.] No one gains anything from it, beyond knowing what to expect from each other in a fight, and if we ever end up fighting one another, much less ALASTAIR, why would you want anyone to have that advantage over you?
I realize Sasaki-san's intention was to foster growth and respect among the team, and I believe it to be a beneficial endeavor, but helping one another can't come at the expense of our own lives, if we value them at all. Regardless of how we all feel about ALASTAIR, this situation isn't one we chose.
I UNDERSTAND YOU the problems of playing a japanese-speaking shounen chara.....
you said it. i mean, i'm totally here for sharing skills like, i don't know, training those who don't have combat experience [ though that's mainly because he has none and would like to learn not to be killed, thankuverymuch ] or teaching stuff like cooking or, uh, pop culture refs or stuff like that.
but if what ALASTAIR says is true, that we just fell through a rift by accident, that it could've been anyone else in our lives, too... then they don't know anything about us. and i don't care how much everyone's willing to sing their praises, an organization that recruits people for a shady purpose, withholds mission details and doesn't even ask whether we want to be here or not... yeah, if we can have some skills they don't know of, i'll sleep better at night.
riiiight. FUCKIN' SUFFIXES
[and that comes with a price of course- the price of leaving other people in the dark. he understands ALASTAIR in a way he isn't comfortable with. they remind him far too much of himself, and since he knows himself better than anyone, he knows not to trust any of this.]
And that means making sure no one knows what move you're likely to make. It might not sit well with some of our teammates, but they'll be thankful for it if it helps us survive this.
Besides most of us don't really have special skills or abilities we can teach others anyway.
no subject
hey, you won't hear complaints from me
anyway-- nice to meet someone else who doesn't just blindly trust anyone and everyone. i'm stiles, stiles stilinski.
no subject
[for good reason, he knows, but that doesn't change the fact that he's not usually standing in an ocean of them at any given point, and it can be frustrating.]
iiit's a wrap?
[ ah.... he gets it, how he gets it. his best friend is an eternal optimist who trusts everyone, and so Stiles trusts no one-- because someone has to be the pragmatic one.
it's a nice feeling, to know someone's in his corner with this particular subject. ]
