It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

[Honestly, this seems like a far more useful ability than the only other ALASTAIR-granted ability Law's encountered, Ban's. But also infinitely more dangerous, especially to a closed off guy like him.]

You haven't... You said you can't use it yet, right? Or are you not in control of when you use it at all.

It's more the latter, I think... Sometimes it just sort of — happens.

[Olivia can probably hear the scowl that passes across Law's face then, because he makes the same small annoyed exhale every time he scowls, which is like, all the time.]

[It's fine, he's calmed down. Olivia wouldn't tell anyone anyway... Wait, no, she already says good things about him to people all the time!!]

—um. [ the abrupt subject change catches her off-guard for a second. ]

Gaius...? Nothing! I think. [ wait she's still confused. ] Why?

[She didn't even realize what she said... Olivia is truly too nice and pure and this is obviously proof that she just says nice things about everyone!!]

He just seems to think that you "think highly" of me. Obviously, he disagrees.
[A beat, where you're free to imagine him doing that reflexive tug on the brim of his hat that he does when he's emotionally deflecting.]

I did apologize, though.
[He'd told her he would, when she'd told him off for messing with Gaius in the first place.]

[winces]

[ she squints at him, practically hearing those air quotes. ]

I do think highly of you. [ SO THERE. ] And you apologizing is just one of the many reasons why.

[Shit he shouldn't have apologised. He keeps making these sort of mistakes when he forgets to act like he isn't a good, nice person in his heart of hearts.]

... A crew has to work together, I couldn't afford to have you mad at me. If you and Ban-ya decided to mutiny on me I'm sure I wouldn't stand a chance.
[A dry joke to deflect. Also he may have forgotten to mention they have Ban under their flag now, but there you go.]

Oh. [Like it's a minor thing that it's ok for him to have forgotten.] Yes... It just sort of happened. I felt like someone needed to be in charge of him.
