It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.
If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.
In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.
Let's see how we can help each other improve.
[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

Am I right in assuming you haven't had any formal training?

uh, yeah. that's kinda what i just said. no training here, just years of watching my dad do his sheriff-police-enforcement thing

[ tho shiro isn't about to invoke alien gladiator battles for an example. ]
But we'll start with the basics. You can give me movie recommendations afterwards, alright?

[ which?? he can hit people with long sticks, does that count... ]
you got it, it's a deal!

Maybe after we work on your hand to hand, you can train with a weapon.
[ but that's not shiro's forte, so he'll have to palm stiles off on someone. keith?? ]
But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

[ it's a good thing Shiro doesn't say that part out loud... Stiles and Keith are like oil and water, unfortunately, a disaster in the making, actual train wreck. ]
sure, man. ... by the way, my name's stiles. just so you don't have to, you know, call me "man of still" in your head.

[ levels stiles up to friend status, congrats. ]

... hey, cool. shiro, right, i'll remember that.
