It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

[ Her nostalgia and desire to find the familiar and to learn are fairly strong. It's feeling really weird being disconnected from that, which isn't what she might have expected.

When he asks his question, she makes herself consider if she has a particular answer. Is there something she's always wanted to do?
]

Always? I'm not sure. "Grow up" seems like it was important, but until recent, I don't think I even knew what that meant. Um... maybe go to one of the big amusement parks?

Are you sure you should be worryin' about that kind of stuff right now? You've got plenty of time to grow up.

It kind of sucks sometimes, if I'm being honest.

[The amusement park thing is cute though.]

And who knows? Maybe you'll get to go to one of those here. I mean, we do travel to a lot of planets, right? There might just be one.

[This is his way of giving her something to look forward to.

He's only realized it just recently, but many of his goals... They're within reach even this far out in space.

I don't think you get to put these things on pause once they've started happening.

[ Because she already knows it sucks. And it is, in her eyes, inevitable, because she has not been able to be just the child she was since even before here. Only here it's taking that cost out of her in ways that she's not sure she would have guessed she'd survive two months ago.

But it's nice. She's not so gung ho about going to an amusement park now, but she does like that idea: someplace relatively safe and meant for fun. Someplace that's not talking about the violence they're all living with. Someplace that doesn't reward people with guns for scouting out paths through to ghost towns.

She'd like to visit that kind of place. She'd like to be back in that kind of place, but for the time being, she isn't. So... she'll adapt.
]

If we do, you've gotta come on the rollercoasters with me.

[ And if it includes making plans and promises that will never bear fruit, so be it. It's a nice thought for the moment. She enjoys those, almost as much as she'd enjoy the reality. ]

[Perhaps it isn't normal, the way her innocent gesture affects him, filling a void deep within.

Asher has always desired this, to be invited places, to be a part of something.

What he's hungered for most in life is just that- To be wanted, as a son, a lover, or even a friend.
]

Sure.

[He smiles on his end, biting his lip.

Silly how something so small can make a man so emotional.
]

That sounds dope, actually.

[ Finding a place to belong, to be invited into, can be a very powerful thing indeed. No Face had been looking for that, and how he'd gotten lost along the way, so easily influenced by the needs and desires of those around him, and been his undoing. Not his end, but a rocky, unhappy, engorged middle.

Hunger is not the enemy. It's what one lapses into during that hunger that can hurt. All this?

This is gentle enough. In turn, she ends up smiling, hunkering down and holding her magitek pendant cupped in her hands. Belonging and being wanted matters to her, too, if not in the same deep-seated hungry way.
]

Good! I'm looking forward to it. Thank you, Asher-san.
