It is my understanding that we were gathered to function as a team. A concept that is, perhaps, difficult for many of us to become accustomed to, but a path we have had no choice but to take in any case.

Yet here we are, already faced with danger enough from our missions, and we are equally forced to fear one of our own as well?

Explain to me why we should endure the presence of a monster who cannot keep his nature in check. How many were injured by Koltira's hand, yet all of us remain silent.

Um, can I just also ask... how many people here are honest about the stuff they need or the stuff they can do? I didn't understand it at the time... and still don't, not really, but at least Koltira-san spoke up in a vague, mostly not helpful warning. For a team that's supposed to work together and all, we keep a lot of the important things away from each other.

I don't know how we're supposed to work together if the things we rely on here are the things that surprise each other all the time.

I will agree that he said to be left alone. Yet, people were harmed regardless.

[He hesitates for a moment. He doesn't disagree with Chihiro in the least.]

You would think that proper communication would occur. But people... there are always secrets. Sometimes, that is acceptable.

But some things, perhaps, should be more apparent.

Yes, um. Asking to be left alone wasn't really helpful. I didn't know we could see where other recruits were. Did you?

[ She had only come across that functionality of their tech later on. Alas. ]

Secrets are things people hold, I know that. I don't think anyone can or should tell everyone all about themselves... but there are dangerous secrets! The kinds that you keep from your teammates, and then you surprise them with, and it's not a good surprise. Those are things I feel we have to work on too.

It was not something made apparent to me, no.

[For all of the anger Hanzo had felt, he cannot bear it down upon her. He holds it close, listening to her.]

...Yes. I do think so. Things that should be made apparent, in case it could harm others. You have put that well.

I think we need to let people know. Not just for this. It can help find people when they get lost or trapped. Because that happens too.

[ She states it quietly, because when she says "that happens too" she means it'd happened to her and Evan and Urahara, and only through their "abilities" they hadn't mentioned before had they gotten out. But those abilities, too? Weren't all kind. They'd both been frightening, and dangerous, in different ways. (Urahara in this case surprisingly less of a worry — excepting his personality.) ]

Mm. Those are the things I wish we talked about here. Just like how it's okay if we're different kinds of people, as long as we understand we're all people. We don't all need to be one species to get along. Which is good, because we're not all one species, and our... our needs are different.

[ Thinking of Haise. Thinking also of Koltira, who she really doesn't know well. Violence is a reality they're surrounded by, and people don't always get along smoothly, but if they're tearing each other apart as a team over differences that aren't chosen, then what? How can people learn trust in places like that? Chihiro doesn't even know how to properly ask any of that. It's a jumbled mess of feelings all too personal to her right now. ]

I am not concerned about species. But I am... very worried when this sort of thing can happen again. Will happen again.

I cannot-- we should not be expected to protect ourselves from someone we are to work with.

Do you think all dangerous secrets should be known?

I think the ones we need to be able to help each other with do. And the ones we use to fight... though not all of us fight well.

[ Like her. She's barely managing not to get killed, and it's people with those dangerous abilities who are keeping her alive. ]

I think it's okay to be angry that this happened. 'Cause it's how you feel, and it wasn't right. But... we are a team. [ She keeps questioning what in the world that means, when there are people like her here, then people like Koltira, like Urahara, like Evan and Haise. Like Shizuo. Like that jerk who dumped her alcohol on the ground and then paid her like, three dollars. (Jason.) Aang seems capable, and Dipper was proactive, and she hears the other younger girl here is a doctor of a kind. She'd be lying if she didn't admit this was overwhelming. ] A team is all of its parts, not just the parts you think are easiest to get along with. There's got to be a way to keep this from happening like this again. For our sakes.

[ Dead bandits, blood splattered all over the ground, chains and an inability to understand or reason. She closes her eyes, hand curled around her magitek pendant. ]

There has to be.

[For a moment, Hanzo is quiet. Contemplative. This is a very thoughtful girl. Simple words, but with honest and clear feelings.

He feels nostalgic, for a moment.

And appreciative that his anger is permitted.]

You sound as if you truly believe it is possible to keep this from happening again.

[He wants to ask: what if there is not a way? But that is not something he can ask her. There is something in her voice that has conviction.]

...Then I suppose it is only right to try.

[ She does believe people can be protected from getting hurt. Not so much if they choose to ignore a warning they understand, but making sure people do understand. Working to redirect or guide the destructive frenzy, to whatever extent they're able. Understanding and working with people's immutable conditions. Like Haise. Like this Koltira.

A desire to protect them all from what can be negotiated, as one who has needed that protecting. ]

Thank you. I mean... I don't think these things are easy. We can't always change what we are, but we can learn how to cope with it. We'll for a way forward together. [ a small pause, hands tightening once more around her pendant. ] As a team.

[If that's actually her name. He's guilty of putting in something else to hide, when he arrived initially.]

You have a good head for focusing on what works for the team. [Especially for someone who sounds so young. A clever girl.] I will remember that.

[ She, however, failed internet safety 101 in her discombobulation and the underlying certainty that she needed to hold on to her name tightly as can be. I'm Chihiro. ]

Yes, I'm Chihiro. Mm... thank you for saying so.

[ She's still learning. Teamwork like this isn't innate, but she does align toward wanting to work with a more harmonious whole, so parts of it are her social inclinations. Past that, she genuinely cares. And she's constantly working to stay ahead of a sliding slope, to whatever degree she can. ]

Are you here on your own?

[ She nods, realising it's not so helpful when calling someone. ]

I am. I mean, on my own if you mean being here without anyone I know from before. None of us are really on all our own.

[ Being part of a team sees to that, in her eyes at least. Still... she loosens her grip on her magitek pendant, staring down at it in her cupped hands. ]

You have family here?

I suppose we are not.

[He's a little impressed she thinks that way. Perhaps for the best.]

Yes. My only family. My brother, Genji.

[ She'd be too tempted to feel lonely if she allowed herself to think otherwise. It's not the warmest comfort, but people have been kind here, and that has mattered. Not everyone, but in what world or what social group has that ever held true? ]

Genji-san. I don't think I've met him yet. Have you both been working together on this team for about the same amount of time?

[ She pauses, catching her own rudeness several beats too late. Her words come out as a small sort of rush: ]

It's nice to meet you, Shimada-san!
