Good evening.
[Though the subject matter behind his reasoning for addressing the networks was far different now than the first time he had the previous month, his even, dispassionate tone of voice is exactly the same.]
I've come to realize that the time in which we will be returning back to Oska is very close to—if not exactly on—the winter solstice. [He's used to a duo of sing-songy fae stopping by his house and giving him forewarning. He actually had to use a calendar this time.] Though I doubt all worlds follow the same laws and traditions, it is a day of great importance in my own. There are several rituals I am... curious if anyone would wish to help me carry out, to give us auspicious passage through the winter months.
As I don't think the old gods of winter have any particular sway over these distant realms, I am fairly confident nothing will be dangerous.
Please let me know if you might be interested, or if you might have any questions.

[Because it marked the shortest day of the year, many had attributed something special to the day. Elias himself believed it was because the fae were fond of it, drawn to the auspiciousness of the turning-point where the days would steadily grow longer until summer. Regardless, it was an important time of year.
Sonia looks so excited and prepared, it threw Elias off a bit when she posed her question.]
Ah - pardon? [He tilts his head slightly to one side.] For what reason?
[oh, no...]
video
The Germanics who were found to originally celebrate this festival... did they not sacrifice livestock and cook the meat to celebrate this time of year? Did I translate it incorrectly?
[ She sounds so worried to have offended him because otherwise why wouldn't he understand it??? ]
no subject
Ah... I'm sure that is a tradition... It certainly is customary to cook a large meal to celebrate at this time of year.
I suppose I was attempting to avoid any kind of ritual sacrifice as others have already been worriedly asking if that was going to be done... [said a little sadly... he can't help the fact that he looks like someone who would sacrifice children that wandered into the woods at night, okay]
Is this something you did in your own country, Sonia?
no subject
[ She taps her chin. ]
It may be severly outdated now, if that is the case. Though... they were worried? [ She... had been excited. Oops. ] I was hoping to try it at least once...
no subject
[He's... not surprised. Sonia is a very bold young woman, though sometimes it does concern him slightly.]
Mm, others were excited as well. [But those "others" were Ramir, so take that with a grain of salt.] I think perhaps my appearance led them to believe the worst... though admittedly, my diction didn't help much, I admit.

No matter if that had been my thoughts as well, it is not because of that, I assure you! You have been nothing but kind, Elias. I cannot imagine you harming someone or something else.
no subject
[He's not sure which is worse, Sonia...]
This is... noted, but I'm unsure if it would be wise.
[He was about to lead on to reply, but her last statement causes him to pause, jaw setting resolutely as he considered it. It was perhaps the one downfall to everyone here being so much more willing to trust his goodwill than humans and fae back home—they might resist natural urges to mistrust him. He didn't particularly enjoy it, but he thought it was healthy, in the end.
Kindness was not natural to him. Neither was generosity, patience, compassion, empathy—these were all things he had studied and learned to feign, out of a desire to be very much unlike what he was naturally.
He takes a moment to mentally compose his words before he continues.]
I understand that such a comment is simply an extension of your own kindness, Sonia, but I would warn you against such optimism regarding myself. In many ways, others' concerns are justified. It is not my intent to do any harm, no, but it is very much within my ability.
[And nature.]

[ She reaches to hold onto her other arm, gaze lowering sadly. ]
I will restrain myself from saying more, do not worry. [ Though maybe it is as he thinks, that people really are too trusting of someone who follows the principles of kindness that they've studied and learned but not quite felt, but there are people here who would be far less kind despite having that humanity.
It's why she only smiles in reponse. ]
As you have said before.
[ Yet, Gundham always said similar things about himself and only seemed to ever do the opposite, it's hard to take it at anything other than face value and no more. ]
no subject
Mm. [The response was mostly noncommittal, his body language suddenly somewhat distant, bemused. The stubborn ability to believe passionately in the best in people was something that both amazed and vexed Elias in equal measure—or, well, at least when it came to himself.
It wasn't out of any kind of personally borne displeasure for what he was. Elias didn't have the capability for something so selfish and crass. No, he was simply realistic about what he was—or, rather, what he had once been, before he had developed consciousness and the ability to decide rather than act on base, cruel impulse. But just as suddenly as that was beset upon him, he wonders if the same might be true, but in reverse. Could he suddenly revert to what he once was? Without the exact reasons for why it had happened in the first place, it was possible. And so he made sure no one made the mistake of trusting him completely.
He felt it was what he owed them for their acceptance.
A pause settles between them for a moment before he nods.] ...Thank you. [The tone was quieter than usual.
Then it returns to normal.] I suppose I will see you once we are in Oska, then?

She doesn't want to fall back into that though. She doesn't want to be a beacon of destruction, be someone who has no care for others--because she never was like that before. She had wanted friends. She had wanted to experience a world dissimilar to her own in Novoselic.
None of that was an option now, so she transfers and changes her desires to match -- constantly adapting to whatever fate offers. Her belief in destiny probably helps matters there, but it doesn't change the fact that she could easily switch and be as cruel as she is kind. ]
Of course. I shall see you in Oska then, Elias. Farewell for now.

He has his own history of being a horror—enough so that many mages and alchemists refused to let him forget about it. It didn't change that he didn't want that, that he would prefer to live in peace and continue to study the puzzle that was their world. Often it was not what you were capable of but what you strove to do, either to conform or refuse it. That was the power of consciousness and choice.
Regardless.]
Indeed. Farewell, Sonia; I wish you the best.
