[ Really, she had hoped to get her thoughts out about this sooner, but there are things she wants to Address and get people to think about now that it seems like a new year is upon them. It makes sense after the Christmas/Yule w/e celebrations that had taken place. For any that may know her though, she definitely seems very upbeat today. ]

Good day, everyone. [ It's the first time she's actually addressed the magitek like this though, which is why she tries to keep as formal as possible from the get go. ] My name is Sonia Nevermind, some of you may know me, others may not -- if that is the case, it is a pleasure to meet you now.

I was wondering... is it common for people of your worlds to make New Years Resolutions? This is where you make promises or goals for yourself for the new year.

For me, this year I hope to get stronger, so I may protect those I care about. I wish to learn more about medicine, to ensure that those with healing skills are not tiring themselves out. [ She's ticking these off with her fingers as she goes. ] I wish... to be more honest, about past instances that were beyond my control... but I feel are important to share with friends. I wish to spend more time with others, and learn more about the different cultures and languages we have within our team. If you were to consider this now... what would you choose?

Also, as we have been in good spirits recently, I also hoped we may try to get to know one another better with a game? There is one called "2 truths 1 lie", I believe, where we share two pieces of information that are "real" along with one piece of information that is a lie. As I understand, this is a hella good game to bond. For example: "I can speak 30 languages." "I have got a sister." "I can pilot a helicopter." Which one is incorrect?

Hey, no, none of that, we all come from different places and all, there's totally going to be sayings people don't know.

[ he flashes her a hasty grin, meant to placate her... but it changes into something quieter, more genuine when she keeps talking. ]

... yeah. I know the feeling. Not the part about your people, not in the way you mean [ he's certainly not royalty, but his dad is a Sheriff, and he does know what it means to want to protect the people of the town you live in ] ... but the other part. [ he'd do anything, anything for his friends, too. ]

Ah, I suppose that is true... Though sometimes it can be easy to just get confused. [ She is... translating far too much even when not necessary. ]

I think anyone who cares for another person can understand that feeling. You do not need to explain yourself any further. [ Her head tilts as she smiles widely, eyes closing, before she resumes her positioning from before. ] It is especially important in a place like this, I think.

I guess I don't. [ fleetingly, he thinks of Scott, but his face turns into those he's met here — Peter, Loki, Gwen, Olivia. he wonders briefly if that's what she means, the bonds they create with their team members. ]

... you mean because we're away from our homes? Or because our team's pretty much all we have, right now?

[ Her gaze shifts away, like she's looking towards the wall. Really, she's just thinking of how to best explain it. ]

Something like that. It is also not very easy to live in these kinds of conditions. It is other people that give us a reason to keep going, they give us strength, they hold us up when we feel down... they also give us grief and mourning when we lose them... so we fight to ensure that does not happen, correct? [ Her mouth twitches into a tiny smile. ] Even a team can be a family in the right conditions.

[ of course, she speaks the truth — he knows a team like theirs, together through different missions, can easily become something like a family... and really, some of its members he already cares for with everything he has. others, though? maybe it's just his general distrust raising its head again, but Sonia's words sound terribly optimistic to him. ]

... yeah. I think with a team as big as ours, there's no way everyone's gonna get along or even get to know each other that well, but as long as all of us have some people here we care about and who we'd fight for... that's enough, I guess.

[ In a way though, families can squabble and not get along as well. You also cannot choose your family, just as here they cannot choose their team. It's a group they're stuck with until a potential transfer happens, or if they're lucky enough to one day find their way home. ]

Are you saying that you always get along well with your family? I know that for me, I have had many arguments with my parents about both personal and political ideals. No family is perfect.

No, I'm not, just —

[ he pauses, scratches his cheek. ] ... it's just me and my dad. [ it's a non-sequitur, almost, with no further explanation, nothing about how he kept the whole werewolves-are-real thing from his dad for so long, nothing about how much they've argued about what's safe and what isn't...

... but maybe that at least explains why he has such a difficulty imagining the team as "family", when he's been used to the two of them having no one but each other for so long. that's what family means to him. ]

I-I... [ Ah, she messed up. She was trying to show that in some families there are fights anyway (well, most actually) but it should have occured to her that not everyone had a full family either. ] I apologise! Truly! I did not think that through...

Hey, no, it's fine. Honestly, it's nothing.

[ he gives her a small smile, hoping to reassure her. ] It's been like that for a long while, so... just, all I meant was, I'm not exactly used to a big family. I'm not saying you didn't have a point, but... [ it's just not the same for everyone. ]

Not exactly, but still... I suppose. [ Though she doesn't want to dwell on the issue anymore either. Technically the only family she has left are her friends, but she doesn't want to think about that. Not right now. ] Either way, it was a bad example apparently.

[ it's easy to recognize the avoidance — it's what he's done for so long, what he's used to. to see it on her and not reflected in the mirror back at him gives him a weird sense of vertigo, though sympathy overpowers it quickly enough.

he doesn't pry; he knows well enough not to. ]

Yeah, well, let's ignore examples, okay? You made this whole post to play and we haven't really played at all, and I mean, that sounds really bad to me.

[ She gives him a grateful smile in response, relieved that despite her offering this game as a means to get to know each other, he isn't pressing on that particular point. It won't be nice on either of them apparently. ]

Sure, I love this game.

[ mostly he loves it because of all the facts he can learn about everyone else and add to his ever-growing spreadsheet, but you know... ]

Okay, uh, so. My dad taught me how to shoot. Our econ teacher also coaches us in lacrosse. I'm best friends with a werewolf. [ one of those... is not like the others. ]

[ Well, that's why she's doing it! ]

Perfecto! Very well... let me see. [ She's trying to contain herself on asking about the werewolf thing because that is interesting, and instead thinks it over. ] Perhaps it is about your econ teacher?

[ Because lots of people here seem to be able to shoot and why mention something as exceptional as werewolves if it isn't true?????? ]

Nope!

[ he sounds. really pleased, he was sure she'd get it at once... though between that and the part about his dad, maybe it really was such a true-sounding lie that she just bought it without question.

(silently, he thinks if it's such a normal thing here... why hasn't he ever been able to convince his dad he can be trusted with a gun? he can. Riza saw it, proved it to be true.) ]

That one's actually true. The coach teaches us econ. [ "the coach", meaning he's more their lacrosse coach to him than his econ (or homeroom, god forbid, he almost forgot) teacher... ]

I-I see... [ Why does that make this more complicated than she expected. ]

Then perhaps your father...? [ It makes it quite questionable that she's expecting the strangest here... but it's more that she wants to believe in that option more than anything else. ]

... yeah.

[ it's clear he wasn't expecting her to go for that option, but then, when Loki did this same game and Dipper had all these strange options, didn't he expect the weirdest of them to be true, too?

maybe that just makes her a good player. ]

That's right. I actually didn't learn to shoot until Riza taught me in Perdition's Rest.

Ah! [ She leans forward a bit now, her excitement starting to leak through-- ] So that means you do indeed have a friend who is a werewolf?!

[ She's not even focusing on the information he's telling her about learning from Riza... this is More Important, clearly. ]

wow, okay then, he sees how it is!! ]

Yeah, my best friend back home. I mean, I know other werewolves too, but Scott's an alpha. That means he has his own pack and all... I'm actually part of it.

[ he says, with all the pride in the world. excuse u Sonia do you have time to talk about Scott McCall Werewolf Jesus Our Lord And Savior?? ]

[ Look everyone and their mums can fight here, this is more important!!! ]

You are? That is fascinating! I was not aware they allowed humans into a pack.

[ Well with the way he phrased it, she presumed he isn't one... so yes ofc she does. ]

That's a common misunderstanding, actually. Even families that have werewolf genes can have human offspring, so, you could have, like, three children where two are wolves and one is human. And all of them are members of the pack, of course. So...

[ he shrugs, hoping the explanation makes sense to her. ] You can have human members in the pack, whether they're family members or not. In ours, I'm the only one who's human. [ his mouth draws into a line at that; less because he'd be annoyed by the fact, and more because... there used to be another. but she's gone, now. ]

I suppose literature may be to blame for that. I truly had no idea... so that is fascinating. [ Her hand covers her heart. ] Is it true that your hearts are intertwined? Most of what I know is from reading or watching movies or television. I cannot say what is real or false from that.

[ She's practically on the edge of her seat now though, leaning in to hear more even if it's pointless with the magitek. ]

Yeah, I mean... who's to say the different werewolf myths aren't actually true in other worlds or universes?

[ it's actually a fascinating thought — who knows what kind of things are real in other worlds? ]

Wait, what? No. At least, I'm pretty sure being pack has nothing to do with our hearts. We're just... I don't know. A team, I guess.

That makes sense, I suppose. Each world may vary. [ She taps her lip, thinking it over. ]

Though that is a shame... the materials I read indicated that each would feel empathy for the others, as though the emotions would be spread out.
