[ Really, she had hoped to get her thoughts out about this sooner, but there are things she wants to Address and get people to think about now that it seems like a new year is upon them. It makes sense after the Christmas/Yule w/e celebrations that had taken place. For any that may know her though, she definitely seems very upbeat today. ]

Good day, everyone. [ It's the first time she's actually addressed the magitek like this though, which is why she tries to keep as formal as possible from the get go. ] My name is Sonia Nevermind, some of you may know me, others may not -- if that is the case, it is a pleasure to meet you now.

I was wondering... is it common for people of your worlds to make New Years Resolutions? This is where you make promises or goals for yourself for the new year.

For me, this year I hope to get stronger, so I may protect those I care about. I wish to learn more about medicine, to ensure that those with healing skills are not tiring themselves out. [ She's ticking these off with her fingers as she goes. ] I wish... to be more honest, about past instances that were beyond my control... but I feel are important to share with friends. I wish to spend more time with others, and learn more about the different cultures and languages we have within our team. If you were to consider this now... what would you choose?

Also, as we have been in good spirits recently, I also hoped we may try to get to know one another better with a game? There is one called "2 truths 1 lie", I believe, where we share two pieces of information that are "real" along with one piece of information that is a lie. As I understand, this is a hella good game to bond. For example: "I can speak 30 languages." "I have got a sister." "I can pilot a helicopter." Which one is incorrect?

[ ooc: re: the 2 truths 1 lie thing please feel free to threadjack etc as well as she does mean for it to happen so people can get to know each other [smh] ]

Ah, Sonia-chan...

[ in the video response, Nami somehow seems to be both beaming and tearing up at once, though at least this time it isn't in response to some occult thing that's scared her... ]

I'm not sure about this New Year thing, but those resolutions are really beautiful!! It's like having dreams you want to accomplish in a shorter time, isn't it?

Nami! [ Ah, she looks very happy to see her friend responding as well, of course. ]

I suppose it is similar to that, yes! Though I would say they are more possible than dreams. Usually people would not use something that could be impossible as a resolution. It is more like ... a goal, I suppose?

[ oh, so Sonia hasn't been exposed to the Straw Hat brand of dreams yet, has she... Nami just laughs, shaking her head a little when Sonia speaks of dreams as something that could be impossible. ]

Maybe it seems like that... but I know my dream can be achieved!! So can all the dreams in our crew — none of us will ever give up until we've found them!

[ spoken with absolute certainty. ] But hm, a goal... should I think of one, too?

[ She has not... there's always now though apparently. ]

But there are also dreams such as "I want to win 10 million on the lottery"... [ Ah, this apparently got more complicated. ] But I think so, that way we can cheer each other on!

Ahhh, how wonderful that would be...!

[ are those... beli marks in her eyes..... though privately she thinks it'd be a waste to wait to win that much money, why not just steal it, or extort it from someone? much easier!! ]

You know I'll cheer you on regardless, Sonia-chan! You can count on me!! [ she beams, though... it's a nice idea, for both of them to make a resolution of some sort. she pauses, tapping her cheek in thought. ] Hmmm... I want to learn the art of the weather even better! I want to become an even better navigator, too, so I can be of more use while we're on land. Oh, I want to be there to help my friends, too, to achieve their goals and dreams!

[ another pause. ] And at the end of next year... I want to have at least one million beli!! [ where does she intend to get that much money??? IT IS A MYSTERY ]

Would it not? I imagine it would be very useful here!

[ She'd buy a plane........ why this. Though unless it was a rich corporate who deserved it... she'd feel bad. ]

T-the same to you as well! [ Ah, it's easy enough to get fired up and passionate about all this when Nami truly is cheering her on here. As she listens to the other girl's goals she can't help but smile along with her as well. Her hands press together under her chin. ]

Those are very admirable goals, Nami!

[ in all her modesty..... she thinks so, too. they're all goals she knows she will be able to achieve, too, as long as she just tries her best. with the support of the friends she has here... ah, there will be nothing she can't do!! ]

We can work towards these goals together, now! But before we start... [ she laughs a little. ] Should we play the game, too? I see your one lie has been already found out... so here's something for you!

[ she clears her throat. ] One: I have a bounty of 66 million beli on my head. Two: I have a sister. [ here, she grins — clearly she's taking a page out of Sonia's book... ] Three: I learned everything I know of the art of weather on Fishman Island.

[ Of course they can do it! Or rather, they have to... or at least Sonia has to or she might end up crumbling in on herself. Oops. ]

Of course! I am always willing to play with you. [ Though hmm... is that a trick and Nami really does have a sister or is this actually the lie? ]

Then, you do not have a sister?

Bzzt!

[ she winks at Sonia and laughs, shaking her head. ]

I have an older sister, Nojiko! She's the one taking care of the tangerine grove now. We're not related by blood — my mother adopted both of us when Nojiko was a few years old and I was just a baby.

I cannot believe I fell for it... [ Though really, she trusts Nami an awful lot and had thought that was a hint to make the game go faster... smh. ]

That was very kind of her though. Perhaps the last one then? I remember you mentioning something about this before, but I cannot remember very clearly.

[ Which is probably one of the few instances where she's admitting that she has struggled with regaining so much in such a short span of time plus remembering everything that happens here. ]

[ ah..... never trust a pirate not to cheat at a game. ]

Yep, you got it! It's okay, it'd be hard for anyone to remember everything everyone tells you, especially since you haven't been here for that long!

[ her smile is kind and genuine — the reassurance is one that she means. ] But that's right... I learned the art of weather in Weatheria, a sky island! It was only after that that our entire crew sailed to Fishman Island... it's underwater, and the only way to reach New World.

[ Look.......... She thought they might be above that. ]

That is true... Next time I shall try harder though! However... does that mean you really do have such a large bounty against you?

[ Nami... she doesn't know whether to feel upset for her or relieved as it'll make her own issues easier to talk about. Dilemmas o'clock. ]

I'm sure you will!!

[ she believes in you friend!

the sigh she lets out at the question is mostly resigned... ] Mm, it's true. It started out as just 16 million, but after some recent events, the Marines raised it. But it's not nearly as much as some others in our crew! Our captain's bounty is 500 million.

[ She can't even respond to the first part, instead yelling out: ] Jesus Fucking Christ?! [ Oops... ] I-I mean... that is an awful lot of money... 500 million?

I know!!

[ at this point, she has already buried her head in her hands. ] We've also been declared enemies to the World Government, mostly because of Luffy... ahh, honestly, he's such a handful! Why couldn't I decide to follow a more sensible captain?

[ ....... because Luffy is Luffy and for all the trouble, he's one of the best friends she's ever known. she loves him really don't let this fool you... ]

[ It's a good job Nami has her head buried in her hands, as she misses the understanding look that flashes across her face for a second (declared enemies to the world government... it's something she knows all too well now) before she looks at her with sympathy. ] That does sound quite troubling. I would think that you have had chances to leave however, so he must be important to you as well?

[ yeah she Gets It ]

[ she's unaware of the look that passes across her friend's face, unaware of her similar situation though for different reasons... which is why she says, with a sigh, ] I know it sounds bad... but I'd do it all again.

[ she lifts her head and explains. ]

He's rash and never thinks things through, but everything he does is for his friends. We fought against the government because they were about to execute our friend, Robin, even though she'd done nothing wrong... simply for being an archaeologist and studying something they didn't want her to know, they put a bounty on her head when she was just a child.

... he helped me, too. To get away from Arlong. [ her smile is both grateful and tight at once — she'll never stop being glad for trusting Luffy, for having him as her friend... but thinking of the times she spent with the Arlong Pirates isn't bringing back happy memories. ]

No, I think if the reasons behind it are either to genuinely be with those you love, or they are simply out of your hands... that is quite fair.

[ She gives Nami a softer look now. ] Sometimes the world is just cruel, and you do what you must to keep people safe, and to keep yourself safe. No?

... yes.

[ she agrees, quiet and solemn — it's the truth, the bitter truth she learned when she was only ten years old. ] I hope it isn't like that for you, Sonia-chan... but the world I live in is cold and cruel. There is corruption, people pursuing their own success, trampling down others on the way. Those who you should be able to rely on to help you will turn a blind eye. Sometimes, there is no one else you can trust to help you but yourself.

But as long as there are good people, people like Luffy... it's alright. When you are with your friends, when you share their conviction, when all of you work together... there's nothing the world can do to you.

Sadly, I cannot say it is. [ Her smile falters slightly. ] My country is not a peaceful place, as much as I would like it to be. One day, it will be my duty to continue the fight for peace there, where people are gunned down in the streets... and where there have been attacks against my family.

[ Her smile twists, becoming more sheepish. ]

Yet, there is very little I would not do for my people, no matter what kind of life they have turned to.

Sonia-chan...

[ it saddens her, to hear this about her world — surely Sonia would deserve a home that is quiet and peaceful and lovely. but even if it isn't... ]

I'm sure that when the time comes, you'll do all you can to help your people!

[ Well she's even been abducted and held hostage twice, so that isn't likely but-- ]

That is the plan! I aim to change things around so my country can be at peace again.

[ The irony of this will be clearer later, but for now Nami can live in blissful ignorance of what really happened. ]
