[The magitek's pulled back far enough to feature not one, but two members of Audentes... or, rather, one of them striving vainly to nudge his teammate out of the feed. It's the tail end of the struggle, though, and Kung Jin is fighting a losing battle. It takes half a second for Asher Millstone to shove his way into view, taking up half of the screen and speaking up before Jin can truly get a word in.

The law student looks more excited than ever when he starts speaking, and even lifts his arms above his head in a “raise the roof” sort of gesture.
]

It’s time to get wiggity wiggity whack, yo!

Don't. [He nearly slaps a hand over his friend's mouth, but reconsiders, elbowing him back instead.] So, Audentes. Since we're almost all set to leave on our next assignment, it's come to our attention that not everyone here is from a world that people like Asher or I consider "modern day".

Whoa, you? Wait a minute. Last I checked, there was nothing normal about you, man. People in your world, like, rip dudes’ spines out through their mouths and crap!

[After he says this, Asher immediately turns from Jin back to the camera, and waves his hands emphatically in its general direction.]

Don’t try that.

[Jin casts a dubious glance at Asher and moves right along in spite of all the interruptions.]

Even if you look the part, you’ve still got to play the part, too. If you're looking for any advice or tips to blend in properly on-planet, we’re pretty much experts-- so let us know if you need a hand.

[The paler of the two pops up right behind him, leaning on the other’s shoulder.]

That’s right, baby! We’ll teach you how to be 90s.

[.......]

Yes?

[wait wait wait]

Hold up. How old are you, dude? Weren't you born in like, '92, or somethin'? What year is it where you're at?

[Somehow, he should have expected this.

Asher's insecurities are ever-present as usual. Of course his friend, who in some ways he views as mentor and a comrade, can boast so many achievements despite being so much younger.
]

I'm 25, man.

[He doesn't want to think about how, with the time difference between ALASTAIR and his own world, he now may be even older.

Although it was August when he arrived in this place, it had been December back home. Five months have passed, nearing the end of a sixth. In that case, he's almost 26.
]

I was finishing up my first semester of law school and then I ended up here. It's 2014, for me.

[Or it was.]

Yeah, I know it was kind of a late start, I should have gone right after undergrad but some stuff happened during my last semester-

[He brushes through it all, like a whirlwind.

As though he's actively trying to ignore something that shouldn't be dismissed.
]

And I needed some extra time... But I got there, eventually.

[He's behind, even in his own world.

This is just another reminder.

Haha...!

[The laugh slips out of him like air forced from a balloon, unnatural in almost every respect.

This is the first time anyone's asked him if he actually likes school, and honestly? He's never really thought about it that way. Law was something he wanted to pursue because it was in his blood, apparently, or at least that's what his father used to say when he was younger, palling around with him at the golf course. The cases were really exciting when they didn't have anything to do with his personal life, but even then...

At least David Allen finally got to walk free, after all those years.
]

It's, uh, cool! Yeah.

Lots of studyin'. You know! The uzhe.

[That felt good, hadn't it? Good and painful at the same time.

The others aren't his friends, and they may not know what he did...

But something went right for once; it was worth the price.
]

It's super competitive though. Everyone's at each other's throats all the time.
