if it was about anyone else, he wouldn't be doing this. but right now, he couldn't care less if they find the doctor or not. finding someone else takes priority for him. ]

Hey guys... it's Stiles. [ not a great start, as far as speeches go, but maybe some of that can be attributed to the fact he sounds roughly like he's forgotten what sleep is supposed to even be. ]

Look, I know we've got a lot going on right now, finding the fake doctor, all that. But, just listen for a second, okay? Peter's missing. [ a pause as he swallows before powering on; he gives no further explanations about who exactly he's talking about: anyone who has been following Team Science should know Peter, after all. ] And not in the "he was probably transferred" way, the "he's totally infected and ran away after leaving his magitek behind" way. It's been three days, I've searched the city, like, a thousand and ten times but he's —

I don't know where he is. So if you can spare some time to help me look for him... that'd be great. [ the fact that he's actually asking for help with this tells just how dire the situation has gotten.

another pause — it almost seems like he's going to end it there, but he continues, voice tight, ] But be careful if you actually find him. He's — [ god, how does he warn people and still keep Peter's secret identity? is that even something he should be worrying about right now?? ]

He's going to be more dangerous than your usual infected person. [ there, that'll have to do. ]

Just, if you have any news about him, any leads... let me know. Please. [ with that not-at-all-desperate-sounding closing statement, he ends the post. ]

I'll admit I've not been the most... forthcoming on what I can do. [he lied but what else is new]

Friends is a pretty heavy term for me, but I know Peter pretty okay. He's a good kid, heart in the right place, which makes him definitely one of our more do-gooders.

Not too familiar with Stiles, though. Enough to know that he and Peter are friends.

Ah. [ UNSURPRISING, BUT KIND OF ANNOYING ANYWAY. ] It's kind of you to make your offer, then.

I don't suppose I'll turn a blind eye--so to speak--were I to come across him. It'd only make me seem terribly cold when concern has been made so clear.

I'm not one to make assumptions. Lotta people been holin' themselves up since they got infected. Wasn't sure if that included you, too.

In any case, try to stay in one piece?

I'm not sure I can be infected, though I've been quite lucky enough to not run that risk yet. I've encountered a few, though, and it's quite fascinating what the infection is doing to the human body. Still, I will take care.

And yourself? How have you been handling the current situation?

Better to not experiment with the idea, anyhow.

Oh, you know. I'm used to snoopin' around and tryin' to not be detected by anyone. Only this time, it includes people with insatiable hunger. It's a little exciting. [Speaking lightly of it helps, really.] I've managed to luck out and avoid the plague, and hopin' the odds will stay in my favor.

Best of luck, Twisted Fate--though perhaps you make your own? [ He chuckles, shaking his head though it can't be seen. ] I have the utmost faith that you'll find your way out of any situation you may be caught in.

Yeah, fine, maybe that's not a bad idea. Just, I figured most would know him, he's talked to the network often enough... and he was one of the four working on the cure.

[ which just makes this about 100000x worse, great. ]

A fair point. [ GUESS WHO DOESN'T PAY THAT MUCH ATTENTION TO THE NETWORK THOUGH oops maybe he shouldn't have made it so clear he doesn't... ] Could he have infected himself in an attempt to test the cure?

No.

[ the answer is sharp, perhaps too much so, as he tries again after a sigh. ] No. Trust me, up until three days ago, he had no idea he was infected. He still wouldn't, if — [ a pause, another sigh. ] It doesn't matter. Anyway, the symptoms he has are bad enough that he has to have gotten infected near the start of the mission, I'm pretty sure they hadn't even started working on the cure yet.

[ so it's not just his word but actual evidence. ]

[mistruths]

[ There's a brief beat. ]

Ah.

Are you infected? Clearly, you've been in close contact with him for quite a while, now, and without knowledge of being so.

[figureitout]

[ hah hah hah, that's the question, isn't it... one he's been wondering, too, but it's not like he's had the time to go and get his blood tested. he did, before, and he was fine then — but he knows better than to think one clean sample means he'd have one, now. ]

... I'll worry about that after we've found him. [ and because he's incapable of dealing with this without sarcasm, ] No one needs to worry about me potentially attacking anyone, anyway, I mean, you can knock me out with a light-weight punch.

That...does not seem to be the wisest way of doing things.

[ oh my god Loki don't judge him?? this isn't about him! ]

Yeah, tell me something I don't know. [ honestly, none of this is new information to him... ] Nothing I've done within the last three days has been the wisest way of doing things, but it's all I've got, okay? I don't care if I'm infected. As long as no one touches me, they're fine. I'm not going to go crazy, so I'm fine. Just... I have to find him. I promise, you can personally drag me to the hospital for a blood test after Peter's been found if that's what you want, but not a second before.

[mistruths]

And you're willing to put yourself and everyone else you care about at risk? What, precisely, is the problem with going to the hospital to ensure your own safety while others search for your friend? You've said it yourself: you don't know where he is, he's dangerous, and you are no fighter. What good are you doing, by choosing to stay where you are?

Because he'll listen to me!

[ oops, he definitely did not mean to yell that, but even just the idea of waiting somewhere, not knowing whether Peter's safe or not, having to rely on others to catch him... no, he couldn't. he can't. ]

Look, all I need to do is get close enough to talk to him. I've calmed him down before, I know it'll work. And it won't put anyone at risk. All I need is for someone to find him, make sure he doesn't run away before I get there.

Do any of them listen? The infected. Has speaking to them ever worked?

I understand that you are worried about your friend, but it would also not do you any harm to be examined while waiting. If you are, the both of you infected, what good will you do him? And from what you say, if someone is capable of taking him down and keeping him still, it will not make a difference whether you are where you are, or at the hospital.

They could, surely, bring Peter to you.
