[A tall, scruffy man in an old trenchcoat sends out a message through the jewelry, looking very befuddled at first as he does so.]

Hey! Um, hello? Is this thing on? [He taps at his jewelry a few times.] I bet that did the trick!

So! Hey, pals. I'm Scruffy. ...Wait, no, that's not right! I'm Dick Gumshoe. Detective. At your service, pals!! I can get a lot done, especially now that I've got one of my secret weapons at hand!

[He conspicuously waves a metal detector around.]

In fact, this bad boy just picked up something along the coast! I'm gonna go and... investigate it and all, pals! If anyone wants to lend a hand... sure, go ahead! If it's treasure, we can split it!

[Gumshoe pauses for a moment, and then he chuckles as something comes to mind.]

Oh right! There's one more thing I wanted to ask you all. I stayed up all night wondering about it!! If you could have one of those gift-powers for your own, and you could pick it, what would it be? I think I came up with a pretty smart answer, but I wanna see what you all think!

Um... Gumshoe out, pals!

That's right, pal! And you don't even have to be right by it, either - it can even tell when there's just something in the vicinity!

[She wants to eye his junk (detector) up close and personal.]

Of- of course you can come along! [He tries not to sound too excited.] The more the merrier, pal!

[Wow... Maybe it will pick up some junk in the trunk.]

[Excellent.]

Any place in particular I should meet you?

I'm at the edge of the village! I can wait up if you wanna meet up with me here, pal!

I'll be there shortly.

[And she holds true to her word, showing up in her requisite ALASTAIR uniform some time later, hand lifting in a neat wave once she catches sight of Gumshoe.]

Thank you for letting me come along.

[Right, the uniforms. Those things that definitely exist. Gumshoe actually left his trenchcoat behind after his message because of the heat, and he's wearing his own ALISTAIR uniform instead, if not in the most professional manner. The ALISTAIR jacket has been left behind, as have been the boots. Instead, he's wearing a pair of sandals, and the sleeves as well as the pant legs of his uniform are all rolled up a bit to try to keep cool, especially with the work he's about to do.

And of course, he has a shovel and a metal detector slung over each of his shoulders. He smiles goofily as she approaches and manages to wave his shovel at her in greeting.]

Hey there, Lieutenant! You're welcome... If anything, I should thank you for keeping me company! Heh... I wonder what we'll find!

[She's suffered through worse heat, her uniform is staying right where it is. (Though she's made one exception, the sleeves of her longsleeve neatly rolled up to her elbows. The rest can keep the sun from scorching her skin too much.)

Though Riza's about as excited as Gumshoe is - look, she's never been on any sort of simple adventure like this - she keeps her energy more under wraps.]

What do you usually find with it?

[Gumshoe isn't thinking too far ahead; he'll probably end up nursing some sunburn later in the day. But for now, he happily starts to trot towards the shore while he talks to Hawkeye.]

Oh, all sorts of things! Sometimes it's just knickknacks, or... um... stuff that I lost...

...but it's also come in handy in some cases! It's uncovered some vital evidence every now then. Sometimes even murder weapons!

['Stuff that I lost' definitely gets a look askance but thankfully no verbal questioning. The varied uses of his metal detector are far more interesting.]

It does sound very useful. But surely you can't carry it around with you all the time?

[It seems pretty bulky...]

[In the past, he even put a bell in his wallet so that whenever he lost it, he could find it with his metal detector... such charming.]

Oh, of course not! It's a big workout carrying this baby around. That's why most of the time I save it for special cases where it would come in handy! But ever since ALISTAIR sent it here to me, I've been trying to check around here and there for clues!

[As interesting as the metal detector itself is, Riza finds her attention drifting towards Gumshoe himself, and the experience he's got under his belt. 'Special cases' he says, and she wonders just what exactly makes them so special.]

What types of cases have you worked on previously?

[Gumshoe's just glad to have her attention, and he tries to hold onto it as they walk towards the shore.]

Homicide, pal! They're all murder cases. And really unusual ones at that! Not too long ago, we even faced a string of murders that were being manipulated by a mastermind.

[He chuckles softly.]

And this metal detector helped solve one of those murders! It picked up on something metal inside of an alligator, so we figured out that it had swallowed the missing murder weapon! Pretty wild stuff, eh, Lieutenant?

[Human homocides aren't exactly un-common where she comes from, but they've been so overshadowed by the unhuman - both back home and with ALASTAIR - that it takes her a moment to fully comprehend their gravity in a place otherwise be unmarred by the supernatural.

Though, wait—]

—An alligator?

[She'll comment on the rest later, but first.]

[Yeah, he doesn't have to take homunculi into account for most cases.

He chuckles warmly and nods.]

That's right, pal! A pretty scary one, too! But the jail's warden was keeping it as a pet... That's how we linked it to her!

[How bizarre. And yet, if it works, who is she to question the ways of evil masterminds?]

That's quite the exciting end to a case. But it also sounds like a very busy job. I hope you aren't overworked most days.

Heh... It can get really hectic! [He admits that sheepishly.] But luckily it's not like that all the time. I can still end up with plenty of time to goof around or clean the boss's office!

[Her opinion of him shoots up a tiny notch, against all odds. (But it's natural to respect those who constantly deal with long and hectic work days, at least for her.). She smiles, gives him a little nod.]

That sounds quite so bad. [Although:] Do you regularly have to clean your superior's desk?

[Shouldn't he be able to keep his own desk clean...? (Or hers, if that's the case.)]

[Against all odds indeed, things are still coming up Gumshoe. For now?

He chuckles as he responds.]

Well it's not an official job, but I like doing it as much as I can. Mr. Edgeworth is really orderly, but he's a really busy guy too! So I like to make sure his office is as neat and sparkling clean as it can be!

[How much longer can this last? Stay tuned, fair viewers.

A while, apparently, because Gumshoe's dedication sure sounds awful nice to Riza. Who doesn't admire a guy who takes the time to make sure his boss's office is as clean as it can be?]

Mr. Edgeworth must really appreciate having someone as hard-working as you around then.

[This seems like a natural conclusion to make!]

[It's the weirdest ticking time bomb, to be sure! Gumshoe chuckles bashfully.]

I'm pretty sure he does! [He doesn't sound too sure.] It's hard to tell for sure sometimes, but if he didn't, he probably would've gotten rid of me for good a long time ago, pal! But we make a real dynamic duo when it comes to getting the bad guys!
