Hey! Um, hello? Is this thing on? [He taps at his jewelry a few times.] I bet that did the trick!

So! Hey, pals. I'm Scruffy. ...Wait, no, that's not right! I'm Dick Gumshoe. Detective. At your service, pals!! I can get a lot done, especially now that I've got one of my secret weapons at hand!

[He conspicuously waves a metal detector around.]

In fact, this bad boy just picked up something along the coast! I'm gonna go and... investigate it and all, pals! If anyone wants to lend a hand... sure, go ahead! If it's treasure, we can split it!

[Gumshoe pauses for a moment, and then he chuckles as something comes to mind.]

Oh right! There's one more thing I wanted to ask you all. I stayed up all night wondering about it!! If you could have one of those gift-powers for your own, and you could pick it, what would it be? I think I came up with a pretty smart answer, but I wanna see what you all think!

Somehow, beyond all reason, a 7ft tall android manages to appear, running in heels toward where poor Dick is, pirouette gracefully, and pull a microphone out of seemingly nowhere.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOD EVENING, Nalawi!! And WELCOME to MTT-NEWS. I'm here with local ALASTAIR detective Dick Gumshoe, reporting live from the beautiful coast of Komo.

Now, detective!! You seem fairly adapt with that metal detector of yours. [Hopefully still is with a giant metal man next to it.] Any guesses as to what might be down in there?

[Gumshoe's first response to this android's approach is to scream at the top of his lungs. But then he finally calms down while the question is being asked.]

Thanks, pal! This bad boy's seen a lot of action in its day! [And it's likely going nuts in reaction to Metaton.]

As for what I'll find? ...It's anyone's guess, pal!! Coins? Jewels? Dinosaur fossils... that were made of metal?!

The list goes on!!

[Gumshoe is lucky; to MTT, those are screams of excitement, and he laps up the attention with ease.

He nods in a sort of news-caster-y interest, leaning closer to inspect the machine. As expected, it's going nuts. He takes a step back, satisfied.]

Well, no time like the present, gorgeous! Our lovely viewers are waiting!

Let's! GET! DIGGING!!!

[trenchdoting]

[It's a friendly android at least. If unusual.

Gumshoe nods and gives an obedient salute.]

Alright, pal! Just you watch! I'm gonna dig harder than I've ever dug before...!

[With a grunt, he lifts his shovel and... slowly, mundanely starts to dig through the sand.]

[Well. This is certainly lacking the pizazz he was hoping for. He takes a glance at the ring he's using to broadcast, then back to the "action."

...this is going to take a moment if he doesn't step in.

So, like the wonderful host he is, Mettaton lifts his free hand, summoning... bombs. He's summoned bombs. They float in the air, harmless until activated, but still. Bombs.

He's smiling like he's presenting the weekend weather forecast.]

Why don't we cut to the chase, eh? Shall I help?

[trenchdoting]

I'd appreciate the help, pal!

[But then he looks up and quickly looks alarmed.]

Whoa!! Are those... bombs?! Hit the deck, pal!! Stop drop and roll!

I guess it's sort of a secret. I've never seen a weapon like that before, what does it do?

[Except that Gumshoe doesn't really have a reason, he just thinks it sounds cool.

And he soon pats the metal detector bravely.]

Well let me tell you what this bad boy can do! If there's anything metal hidden nearby? It can pick up on it right away, without a doubt! And it makes a whole beeping noise to let ya know! Pretty cool, eh, pal?

Uhm...yeah, of course.

[The guy seems pretty excited about it, so there must be something that Merlin's missing.]

But why would you be looking for hidden metal? And why would it be hidden in the first place?

'Cuz there's only two kind of metal that would be hidden: money, or evidence of crimes! ...Well, and stuff that people lose, but that's just a side thing, pal. Anyway, as for why it's hidden? Well, that's the mystery and I'm the detective! It's all part of my job!

[Then he pats the metal detector, quickly gaining traction and sounding more boisterous as he describes it.]

Heh... My secret weapon? Well this baby's a bone fide metal detector, pal! If it's metal, it'll detect it!! I bet we'll uncover some pretty big clues with it. Count on it, pal!

[The concept's not entirely alien to her, but she's certainly never seen one that's looked so well-put together. (Or seen any sort of detector that wasn't huge and clunky, to be quite honest.)]
