It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

[Jin went from 'terse' to 'god help me, i need a distraction from this hot mess' in 15 minutes flat, SO--]

My life is pretty much all weird supernatural stuff. Really. Give me a subject, I'll go on.

[ you're taking it too seriously, Jin, a plate of snacks and a comfortable seat to watch the disaster unfold is the way to go here ]

sounds awesome, dude, where to start

if it's all weird stuff, what's the weirdest? like, on a scale from unimaginative crap like "my sparkly perfect classmate is a 100yo vampire" to true mythological gems like "woman eats lingonberry, gets pregnant"

[ he COULD mention certain mythological figures giving birth to an eight-legged horse, but out of respect for his maybe-friend-definitely-mentor he. won't. ]

[NOT WHEN ASHER ACCIDENTALLY??? CAME ONTO HIM???? HE WANTS TO FORGET]

I'd have to think about that, but I can tell you the grossest. Giant bug woman, composed of smaller bugs. Executed the failed leader of a coup by puking her small bugs onto the wannabe-usurper's face, and the bugs ate it off to bone.

We were standing about five feet away. That was, uh. An interesting day.

It was not a good time to be Mileena. Nor was it ever with her face stuck like that, but still.

so... i'm taking this as "my world is really frickin weird" from you. anything else you want to share? like, if there's giant bug women, how many animals or insects are sentient? is that a thing?

There's a guy named Reptile.

I'll give you three guesses on what he looks like.

it's impressive in how bad it is

anyway, dude, you have all my sympathy, and this is coming from someone who deals with weird werewolf packs and were-lizards and dark druids on a daily basis

[personal profile] pummelling 2016-11-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)

figureitout: (◐ lays behind the hills)

[personal profile] figureitout 2016-11-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my god, not at the same time, that'd be a nightmare

i mean, okay, the werewolf pack and dark druid thing actually happened at the same time

but the were-lizard thing was before that

it's called a kanima, by the way

so much more creative than Reptile

just sayin
pummelling: (27)

[personal profile] pummelling 2016-11-26 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
so let me get this timeline straight: were-lizard/kanima -> werewolves + druids?

I need way more context than this.
figureitout: (◐ the sun will be guiding)

[personal profile] figureitout 2016-11-27 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
yep, that's about it

though actually it's more like: crazy vengeful werewolf + equally crazy hunter -> were-lizard/kanima who was controlled by a deranged high school kid and then the grandpa of the crazy hunter trying to avenge her death -> a pack of alpha werewolves + a dark druid who eventually fought each other -> a dark fox spirit

the context is that life in beacon hills isn't what it used to be
