It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

[he's too impressed by the snark to judge the just-under-3700 beach volleyball photos. four for you, upshur. four for you.]

Breaking and entering is a legitimate learned skill. Nice. Is that a typical journalism thing?

[ ;) ;) ;) who doesn't want international bikini-clad athletes on an SD card yo?? ]

Not everyone thinks a locked door is a challenge, so nah, not really a typical skill. People affiliated with the AP or ASNE or WPI might now. I'm an independent, though.

[jin, probably, but that's neither here nor there.]

Interesting. Investigative journalism, then? Or do you just spend your time hiding in the bushes outside Kim K's mansion.
upshur: (FUCK this place.)

The first one. I don't mess with celebs, they're too easy.

Dragging the violations of basic human rights to light. That's more me.

[That, at least, Jin can respect. He hums thoughtfully to himself as he reads Miles' words, then replies. With less bullshit this time.]

Just in general? Tell me more. [Earnest, even if it's not immediately apparent.]

I started with a piece on civilian massacres and war crimes. Couldn't get a job with any professional publication as a result. Nobody wanted dissent in the ranks, back then. Years of independent work, blah blah blah. The usual story.

Someone's gotta talk about those things. Frankly, if people AREN'T getting upset at you, you're not doing it right.
upshur: (watching with organs i can't imagine.)

[personal profile] upshur 2016-10-24 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I could stand for them to be a little LESS upset. [ the violence, he could live without ]

Watch out. Next thing you know I'll be reporting on this team, and then you won't think so kindly of my work.

On Audentes? Wouldn't it be more practical for you to focus on ALASTAIR itself?

[n...ot that he'd say no to juicy gossip. but really, priorities.]
upshur: (THEN TONGUE.)

[personal profile] upshur 2016-10-24 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
ALASTAIR is a little out of reach right now. Audentes is more immediate.

Why, you got something to hide?

Never.

[IF IT SOUNDS A LITTLE DEFIANT, THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS.]

I keep my personal business to myself, but I'm not ashamed of anything.
upshur: (i'll tell the whole fucking world.)

[personal profile] upshur 2016-10-26 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Bet you can't say the same of everyone, though.

[ can you ]

People don't hide shit because they're ashamed anyways - not always.

[personal profile] pummelling 2016-10-26 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you trying to dig out of the people on this team, if not stuff they're ashamed about?

You think there's someone that sinister among us?
upshur: (there is no easy distance.)

[personal profile] upshur 2016-10-27 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Now, see. If I told you, you'd know where to set your guard.

[ hy p othetically speaking he could be looking into the team, but honestly he just said he's not into the paparazzo vibe

not gonna admit or deny anything, though ]

Fine, be cagey. But if you find anything that affects us all, I hope you don't keep it to yourself.
upshur: (i know that sound.)

[ its ok jin someone will find you interesting enough to stalk ONE DAY ]

It's my job to make sure that when bad shit goes down, someone is held accountable for it.

Here's hoping none of you are actually scum, though.
