It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.
If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.
In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.
Let's see how we can help each other improve.
[ooc: Please feel free to thread-hop/jack here, that's what this is for!]

- New and creative uses of the word "fuck".
- How to drift race in a Jeep Wrangler.
- Professional Selfie Mentor.
- Exactly 3,689 pictures of the Women's Olympic Beach Volleyball teams from the 2012 Olympics.
- My Magnum Opus, titled: "How To Break Into Places You'll Be Arrested For Breaking Into And Doing It Flawlessly (Or Nearly Flawlessly)".
That's it, that's all I got.
[ none of this is useful... ]
Honestly, I don't know. I'm a journalist, take from that what you think might be useful.

I'd be interested in reading this magnum opus of yours.
Is there anything I could give you a hand- I mean, help you with?
[Miles he's so sorry for that unfortunate pun he never intended]

[ WOW HAISE that is such an unfortunate pun but watch this: ]
That combat training you mentioned would be handy as hell.
I could stand to learn some of that.

[Still so very strange...worlds...
But ah. This fellow rolls with the pun-ches]
If you're up for training, I'd be happy to help. Have you had anyone look at your hands yet?

[ A LIE. ]
I'm more than up for it, I need this. I should have had some sort of self-defense under my belt long ago.
I'm real good at running, though.

Breaking and entering is a legitimate learned skill. Nice. Is that a typical journalism thing?
no subject
Not everyone thinks a locked door is a challenge, so nah, not really a typical skill. People affiliated with the AP or ASNE or WPI might now. I'm an independent, though.

Interesting. Investigative journalism, then? Or do you just spend your time hiding in the bushes outside Kim K's mansion.

Dragging the violations of basic human rights to light. That's more me.

[ Why, Miles? Explain. ]

I was doing an old photographer friend of mine a solid. His assistant called in with the flu, so off I went to London.
Wound up doing a piece on the sexualization of female athletes.

So he gave you all those photos as payment for your services?

I had been gifted a camera by ALASTAIR not too long ago... Will you show me, please?

[ A NATURAL BEAUTY EYYYYYYYYY ]
But sure, I can show you the ropes. Have you ever used a camera before, to start with?
no subject
Oh yes! I was given lessons when I was first given the device.
[ bc they definitely didn't have anything like it in her world. ]
I was told to point and click and say CHEESE.

So, you know where the shutter release is. That's the most important button you've got.
I'll need to see the camera to give you all the details you could ever need and more. You'll be a PROFESSIONAL.
Just -- if it's too much, too fast, let me know.
